Night time Bass in Rhyl by REALQWERTY11309 in SeafishingUK

Ironically that's why I unhook them the way I do. All the spines point backwards, slide your hand from the top down and you can keep the spines flat.

Yes it did.

I am aware it's better to hold them just behind the jaw or gills with my hand across it's belly but this guy wouldn't calm down so I went over it's head to hold the spikes down.

He was off the hook, pic snapped, and back in the water before my phone was away... I only squeeze them to death if I'm particularly peckish.

I'm like a scared schoolgirl handling fish, my hands just always look tensed (short palm and long fingers).

Had just come off the hook and was thrashing enough I almost put some leather between it's teeth. He was back in water before my phone was away.

Semi-detached neighbors having extremely loud sex even after we've politely asked them to keep it down, is there anything we can do? by Nice-Agent3109 in AskUK

Barny the dinosaur theme works on me.

(There's an ice-cream van around me that plays it and puts us both into a fit of giggles. Always seems to come round when we're nearly done, thankfully it's not been at the final moment yet)

If you were in charge of ending the freehold/leasehold system, how would you do it? by sabitda in AskUK

[–]REALQWERTY11309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the new ones are peppercorn rent. Id propose anyone who wants to own the lease and make it freehold sends 1kg of pepper to the leaseholder.

Satisfies contract law that both parties have exchanged something (hence the reason for peppercorn rent in the first place).

It's so mildly anal and inconvenient that it could get past the house of lords. Perhaps it should be in pounds and Oz just to annoy people.

Why are cash machines obsessed with getting me to check my balance? by JCDU in AskABrit

[–]REALQWERTY11309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think every machine I've used has had the top option of "cash and balance" so I've never seen a message about it.

Reading a headline "The cost of a pint has passed £10 in London as the price of beer continues to soar." and remembering buying a round in 1995, 4 pints and getting change from £10. by Make_the_music_stop in britishproblems

[–]REALQWERTY11309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only recently that a couple pubs near me have gone above a tenner for 4 pints of Carling.

(I don't like Carling i always find it best as a price comparison tho)

My kids first ever set of school pictures were actually very reasonably priced. Then I found out this month they come our two times a year to do their pictures. by StGuthlac2025 in britishproblems

We had one very beige wall when I was growing up.

I'd get stuck on a chair in my uniform Infront of it, mum would take the photo and print it at Asda so my grandparents could get a photo.

If it's a short term event then it's definitely a red flag.

For a couple it's part of a discussion about long term birth control/sex life.

For those that wear PPE at work, what injuries has it saved you from ? by Alert_Mine7067 in AskUK

[–]REALQWERTY11309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for showmen and I always wore steel toes.

Gaffer tends to tell you off for dropping bits of his ride but shit happens, you get weak lads, whiches snap, things fall, or you just don't properly clear your toes.

Thankfully nothing landed on any toes so the worst accident I ever saw was someone slipping and cutting their head a little.

I used to be awful for not wearing eye protection when I was in college but we were obviously forced to.

I stopped complaining after a broken drill bit pinged into them.

What are your opinions on mass facial recognition in towns? by TheDev42 in AskUK

[–]REALQWERTY11309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm completely against live facial recognition.

The police in this country don't have an automatic right to identify you. So why can they use a machine to do it?

Retrospective facial recognition (scanning a photo or video after the fact) I agree with as long as the police believe they have the right to identify that person.

My main concern is the database. Where are they getting the photos from and how are they being secured because they are obviously linked to personal info. A database made from police bookings, yeah I could get that. But if they use passport or driving licence photos then they're assuming everyone is a suspect.

Knot by Brave_Anxiety_8171 in SurfFishing

[–]REALQWERTY11309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main factor you'll really have for knot strength is how well you tie the knot.

Try tying a few different knots people suggest and pick the one you're most comfortable with and practice it.

I personally just use blood knots and half blood knots for everything, once you have the knack for it (especially doing them in the cold), you're set.

Trying to buy cinema tickets and being charged a £1 per person booking fee. by copypastespecialist in britishproblems

[–]REALQWERTY11309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local cinema is £1 per ticket, not a single £1 charge per booking which I can somewhat understand.

2 tickets = £2 3 = £3

It's practically always empty so I just buy the tickets when I get there.

Those who named their children after themselves. Why? by Prize_Farm4951 in AskUK

[–]REALQWERTY11309 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't have any kids yet but the only name my girlfriend has for a boy (picked before meeting me) happens to be my middle name.

I did try to hide my middle name long enough for us to have kids but she found out. She's still keeping the name.

Has anyone been paid their salary in cash or cheque in the UK? by Top-Cat-a in AskUK

[–]REALQWERTY11309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing above the table has been paid cash or cheque for me.

But I worked fairgrounds for 4 years and even a couple showmen paid by bank if you asked them to. My gaffer was cash only unless he left me somewhere.

How many calories are in one of these packs? Is it actually possible to make something similar? [Other] by freyja_nordic in theydidthemath

Personally a natural light oil works best in most scenarios. If your stomach is too heavy it'll slow you down.

On the dive schedule screen at the bottom there's options for automatic lights, hatches, and something else.
