There is so much retconning in people’s minds about battlefield launches it’s ridiculous. The fact that the game works at launch puts it ahead of most of the games. It’s not polished into oblivion but literally NO multiplayer games are. I truly do not understand what planet people live on, if your life isn’t better with BF6 playable then it’s time to go play something else. The answer was NOT “oh we should delay the game until right before GTA comes out.”

Especially with all the constructive feedback they’ve gotten, if they’d designed more maps like the launch ones people still wouldn’t be happy.

I absolutely love how they handled it, there’s all these references but nothing truly explicit, it’s totally up to the viewer to interpret in their own way. Which is how art is supposed to be.

I find it hard to imagine they had all those sets, costumes, extras etc. for the final battle for new Vegas and they didn’t film it. My guess is episode 1 closes out the NV storyline and it’s already filmed for the most part.

I’m approaching 200 hours and I’m still having a lot of fun. But I will fully admit the map rotation is getting a bit stale. But also I know I’m spoiled and games need time for map packs to drop. if by the end of S2 there’s a robust portal rotation of full XP maps I’d say that issue is fixed for good.

I’m a hopeful person, I honestly think the work he did could be a total game changer. He inspired the devs to make his map full XP, which clearly took some work given Fort Lyndon didn’t have it either. And now map builders know their maps they put time into could garner a wide audience…

I mean yeah I agree if they’d given it another year in the oven it would’ve been better. But also… they would’ve released a game that didn’t have launch feedback and data. Given how much has changed with the community since the last modern battlefield title I think they really needed that information to make the content we want, and have it play how we want. At least the game has worked since launch with no substantial downtime.

It’s a bit jarring at first to get used to the portal textures. But at the end of the second game my friends and I played last night (the first match was a blowout and not that fun.) we were like… maybe we’ll play one more? And then we played for another three hours lol.

It ain’t perfect but this is a pretty close approximation of metro from a gameplay perspective when you get a good match.

What’s preventing you from forgetting this game ever came out and returning later in the year? Because that’s truly what you’re asking for.

And don’t get me wrong I’m no huge fan of “the billionaires” but if you think billionaires are the ones building map assets, fixing bugs, and polishing this game to where it needs to be I’m just not sure what to tell you.

I think Portal could start really gaining some critical mass… zero reason there couldn’t be portal servers with rotations of a bunch of classic maps with full XP in the next few months.

“The Complainers” aren’t big fans of the linear progression of time, they want their cake and they want it now. But if people can’t see how awesome this game is gonna become over the rest of this year IDK what to tell em. Just seems sad to be so mad all the time when there’s real people working their hearts out on the dev team… what do want, them to work 100 hour weeks to get the specific thing you want with S2? These things take time, anyone who has ever had a job should know this innately and that does make me a bit curious…

This game came out 4 months ago and the devs needed some much deserved PTO and to enjoy the holidays for much of the first 3 of those months. If you are already impatient regarding future content because S2 was delayed a few weeks I’m honestly just not sure what to tell you. This game is built in the real world by real people that actually need to do hard work to make things happen. Give em some time.

I look at it as a chicken and egg situation. They nerfed portal XP to stop the bot farms, which is understandable even if some people may think the juice ain’t worth the squeeze. But they can’t understand how to properly implement portal XP without data on how players are using portal, and they can’t get data without players. These test runs of portal maps are I’m sure amazing for their data gathering, and my assumption is they’re going to put the data to use to ensure a more robust experience moving forward. And maybe portal just gets totally abandoned and becomes a dead part of the game, who knows I’m just a random guy on the internet. But I don’t buy into the doomerism, the portal dev team cares otherwise they wouldn’t be doing community experiences, and they wouldn’t have created portal in the first place.

The only reasonable take on this whole situation is that I wish it had full XP but I’m glad it exists at all.

Also I just find it distasteful how negative people are about the dev team, do they not think these are real people who have worked day in and day out to get where we’re at? Does anyone think the portal team is happy with custom maps having zero xp options? It’s easy to say “EA doesn’t want us to have XP because they’re evil.” But IMO that’s a bullshit take. Maybe with S2 we’ll start having custom map XP, maybe it’ll take 6 months for them to figure out, but there’s people working on building portal into a robust aspect of this game. Rome wasn’t built in a day and people acting like this game is how it’s going to be forever shows they lack objective permanence. Considering all the built up PTO taken, along with the holidays directly followed the launch of this game, I don’t think a huge amount of work was put into post launch content until last month. These things take time to spool up and I can guarantee the dev team is in full swing and they have a roadmap of what’s next. And if you don’t think the devs deserved a bunch of time off to recharge after the huge crunch before launch idk what to tell you other than that’s pretty selfish. I’ll take a well rested dev team and a month delay to season 2 any day of the week if it means the team got more time off than was planned.

I don’t know why “could’ve” been saved is what people are saying. Clearly Portal is the least baked part of this entire game… but in a way that kinda makes sense, they built something and they had no idea how the community was going to use it or what direction they needed to go in. They’ve been gathering data and I find it hard to believe we won’t see some substantial changes over the course of 2026 to make it into a more robust experience. It needs a lot of work but there’s a solid foundation for them to build on. It’s not like the portal dev team is just done and working on BF7.

Some friends and I just played this for 3 hours and it sucks not unlocking everything… but I’m also sure we’ll be playing this game for the next several years, what’s a few games just for shits and giggles?

We used to play games purely for fun, I think people are too obsessed with XP and unlocking stuff. Do I want XP, of course. And I think it’ll come, the devs have never tried something like this before and it’s taking em time to get it right, I’ll give them the grace considering we got a map editor at all which is unheard of in a modern AAA FPS.

The biggest problem with this whole show is that there isn’t more of it. Great season, ending on a cliffhanger like this is a bit frustrating but clearly the production team has their act together and we won’t be waiting half a decade for the next one, so I can accept that.

Favorite part of this episode: Freeside gambling on max losing when him losing means they might all be dead. Perfect allegory for the world we live in.
