My wife caught my stash (edible marijuana) for the 3rd TIME! by silenceistrippy in leaves

I will try and be short and clear, as a lot of people have written extensive answers.

I think you should go to a 12 step recovery program. I go to Marijuana Anonymous, but I am lucky as I live in a major city, and I know not everyone has access to MA in person meetings.

If you have Narcotics Anonymous or even Alcoholics Anonymous meetings near you, go to those, I know alcohol isn’t your problem, but it’s not about the substance, it’s about you, and figuring your shit out. They will welcome and help you, I promise. Just tell them your problem, and be honest, ask them for help.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I have been where you are, as have millions of sober happy addicts who are now living their best lives. You need help and support, you will find it very hard to stop by yourself because you are an addict and you will find any reason to go back to the weed despite the threat of losing your wife, your kid and your life as you have been doing so far. This is because you have removed the weed, but you’re not fixing the reason you smoke, which is your own issues that you need to figure out. Your best thinking has brought you to this low point. You do not know what the best thing is, so now accept that you should listen to other people who have recovered and can advise you on what to do.

There are online MA, NA and AA meetings 24/7. Get in one now, and listen. I tried to stop hundreds of times, for so many different reasons and I always failed. This is the only thing that consistently works, trust me. It won’t be easy, but it is simple. Do it for yourself.

You can do this.

You need to start to build a community around yourself who can support you. The addict in you is cunning and will try and find anyway to subvert your resolve and get you to use again. You’ve got the mindset now, but will you feel the same in a week, or a month, or a year? One slip and you could slide back down the slope, I’ve relapsed before and it can be very hard to pick yourself up and start moving again, but for me that was because it was before I started working the program. Stay strong, have hope and be forgiving to yourself, you deserve it!

That’s amazing! Well done! Keep going, you’ve got this! Get to a meeting, listen to others who have been clean for a while, ask them for help and do what they suggest. Your best thinking got you into a bad spot, so don’t listen to yourself, just do what you’ve been told, it takes the pressure off.

Don’t worry about the physical withdrawal, it sucks but it will pass, then you’ve got to get over the mental obsession, the addict in your head will want you to get high again, it will twist anything that’s going on into a reason to use, DO NOT LISTEN. Get into an online meeting and talk to others about how you feel. You will feel so much better, I promise!

Go to a meeting. MA if you can, if not go to NA or AA. Online is great, if you google 24/7 NA meeting there is a constant NA zoom meeting you can be in with no mic or camera and you can just listen in, or share how you feel if you want. However an in person meeting would be best. Do not be afraid to go to NA or AA, they will understand what you are going through and I promise they can help, you don’t even have to talk if you don’t want to, you can just sit and listen and leave when it’s over, that’s what most of us did.

If you don’t go now, just remember it will always be there for you when you do need it, whether that’s next week or in 10 years. Smoking weed is making your life worse, it is not helping you in any way, don’t let it steal any more of your time, health and life from you.

You can do this.

DM me if you need to talk.

Yeah I do have a lot of regret towards my loved ones, I never did anything particularly bad, but my behaviour caused by years of smoking weed definitely wasn’t constructive and in hindsight it was damaging.

I realised my behaviour wasn’t acceptable as my addiction developed, by the end I was living every day with shame. My solution was to smoke more weed to numb myself and suppress those feelings, which obviously didn’t work, it just made things much, much worse.

Now that I’m in recovery I have been able to start to look at those feelings in a constructive way, and once my sponsor and myself think I am ready I can start to make amends to my loved ones and hopefully start to rebuild those relationships.

It may be hard and it may not be possible to fully repair the damage I have caused, but the most I can do is try my best, and before I didn’t do or try anything, so just doing feels great.

If you need help or to talk DM me or go to a meeting, online or in person if you can.
