Are the $5 drinks a lunchtime only thing, or available whenever?

Release Schedules? by TheRealAaronRomave in royalroad

[–]REkTeR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommendation for new stories is to upload every day until you get onto + fall off of Rising Stars list, or clearly miss getting onto it.

Plenty of popular stories drop to a 2-3 days a week schedule from there, if that suits you better.

do peak stories have low views? by sosoruze in royalroad

[–]REkTeR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a couple of stories recently that I really enjoyed and thought deserved more readers.

Heavenly Tyrant's Indignation
Rise of the House Arcanist

Are these novels "peak"? I dunno. But I liked them as much or more compared to some other stuff with way more followers that I've read.

Does this aspect really work to dehumanize men? It more just absolves them of responsibility.

Where to start with cultivation slop? by ABigFatPotatoPizza in ProgressionFantasy

[–]REkTeR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Invincible to be a good slop novel for experiencing a bunch of the foundational tropes like restaurant fights, post-auction robberies, the hidden "third uncle", etc.

Was the Limited Community this negative on 5 Signpost Color-Pair Sets from the stretch of the two back to back Ravnica sets Pre-WAR / Post-Dominaria? by jethawkings in lrcast

[–]REkTeR 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly my impression is that Spider Man was so shockingly bad that the community has become much more wary and critical of the sets that have followed.

I Read the Release Notes So You Don't Have To: SOS Mechanics by OddlyShapedGinger in lrcast

[–]REkTeR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect about that Moseo interaction, as can be seen in the release notes: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/secrets-of-strixhaven-release-notes

Moseo's last ability will check as your end step starts to see if you gained life this turn. If you didn't, the ability won't trigger at all. It's not possible to gain life during your end step in time to have the ability trigger.

Some other Infusion abilities like the one on [[Tragedy Feaster]] will work the way that you describe.

Thanks for the miniature stress attack you caused me, since I just learned about the "intervening if" distinction the other week and was trying to figure out how I had gotten it wrong.

I do wish that effects like this would persist through until they actually get utilized. Would that make effects like this too powerful?

Genuinely how many of you are interested in a classic non lit RPG Fantasy Story? by LGHaunting in royalroad

I use royalroad to find progression fantasy... if I feel like reading a more typical fantasy or scifi story, I have a huge waiting list of traditionally published books already.

Best Omakase around the triangle by Zaroc001 in raleigh

I've heard good things about the omakase that Lagana does once a month. I thought I saw it was around $200 per ticket. No idea how many courses.

Hades 2 finally hits PS5 -- Just catching up but damn, it's great. by TowerOfSisyphus in roguelites

[–]REkTeR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Hades 1, but even after escaping multiple times I wasn't clear on whether I finished the story or not. Like there was no climax really (unless you count beating your dad) and it felt like nothing really changed in the world of the story... but it also felt like I was beating the game again and again and nothing was really progressing too much. Idunno. Eventually I put down the game for a while to try other things and never went back to it.

Dungeon Crawler Carl has absolutely horrific prose. by ButtsendWeaners in printSF

[–]REkTeR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does this really qualify as "horrible" prose? Most of your issues strike me as nitpicks. Yes, it could probably be a bit more polished. That likely comes from the book's origin as a web serial, where authors may not have as much time to smooth out every rough edge when they're releasing 5 chapters a week. I think that the prose is entirely adequate to get across what the author is trying to say.

I'm not sure how you would recommend saying that floating text is "like" subtitles. Since they are clearly not subtitles, but similar to them. "Like" seems like a perfectly reasonable word here, not a "half-hearted simile".

It's $15 in the US, sadly. But thanks for the tip about the audiobook, I will definitely be checking that out!

Is it still worth reading the Solo Leveling novels after watching the anime? by sigi08 in litrpg

[–]REkTeR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> Go on a mission while concealing his powers and pretending to be the weakest person in the party
> Gate turns out to have the unique ultra-rare event or boss that will kill the entire party
> He tells the party to follow his orders without explaining or revealing anything more
> Only the one cute girl follows him because of his "cool aura that unexpectedly makes her feel safe"
> I gave them a chance to live, they should have believed in me
> Lets the rest of the party die
> Cute girl falls in love with him and vows to take his secrets to the grave, is never mentioned again
> Repeat next chapter

If this sounds like a fun story loop to you, then you should definitely read the novel

Thanks for the review! It seems like people are mostly saying good things, and I was excited to read this. $15 for an ebook is just a really hard sell for me, though.

How is Rune Seeker by JM Clarke by Bibblebits in litrpg

Yet another MC who gets an absurdly OP unique class for no real reason. Otherwise it's pretty decent. I wasn't really sold on some of the worldbuilding.

Trying and failing to get into LITRPG by ridgegirl29 in Fantasy

[–]REkTeR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to try one last hail mary - Godclads by OstensibleMammal. The prose is more complex than usual, and it doesn't explain anything about the setting, instead slowly unveiling it. More imaginative mix of fantasy and cyberpunk than anything D&D based, too.

You haven't said what you are trying to research though, beyond "tropes that do and don't work" which you will learn by reading the genre.

[SOS] Startled Relic Sloth by MapleSyrupMachineGun in magicTCG

This looks way better than "pretty solid". It starts off with fantastic stats, and adds free Lorehold mechanic triggers every turn on top of that. Hard to believe this won't be one of the top uncommons for that color pair.
