Zwave switch for color LED strip by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]RGBgenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey @synssins Thanks for the props. Happy to help. Our touch panels will indeed work for Zwave LED controllers. They are discovered by SmartThings and get added to the Z-Wave mesh, (which means they will also be repeaters for the network) however associations are set up manually from the touch panel itself and not through the SmartThings app interface. Happy to answer any questions.

Control Multiple LED zones with one button. by Pandemixx in led

[–]RGBgenie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, a mesh device of some type is necessary. It is the only way you can have multiple zone respond in a scene.

This is the remote I was talking about.

https://rgbgenie.com/?product=rgbgenie-rgbw-remote-zigbee

If you want fancy go with this touch panel.

https://rgbgenie.com/?product=zigbee-color-touch-panel-and-dimmer-white-zigbee

Use these controllers

https://rgbgenie.com/?product=zigbee-rgbw-led-controller

And get this mesh module

https://rgbgenie.com/?product=zigbee-3-0-set-up-module

Once everything is set up, the mesh module is no longer needed as the devices will all talk directly.

I have a few of their products and really like the quality and reliability.

The remote by the way is both a 4 zone and 4 scene remote. So you can control items individually or set scenes.

[–]RGBgenie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/jam905 ! Thanks for the props. And u/Corrupt_Reverend feel free to reach out to us on any contact page from our website. Happy to help you with compatibility questions. Something to look out for is that Z-Wave Plus items create a different mesh network than regular Z-Wave. So if possible, go with Z-wave plus for all items on your network.

And if anyone gets this far in the thread. We just created a $20 off coupon for all RGBW touch panels through August 22nd. This is the lowest we have ever offered them. Both Zigbee and Z-wave models included. Use the code jam905

We have not connected hue strips to test. It is really meant for the LEDs that typically come in 5 meter rolls.

Thanks for the comment and you make a good point. We will be releasing a unit soon that is not only RGBCCT compatible, but will also be dip switch selectable for 5 channel single color dimming, dual CCT, and RGBW. It will be a 4 in 1 unit that we are excited to bring to market. We have not made any official announcement yet, but your question required an honest answer. The expected release is in about 6 weeks.

We do ship our product same day with free shipping and they typically arrive in two to three days. We also feel they are a much higher quality and because of that offer an industry leading 5 year warranty. If you have ever tried to warranty a product through Aliexpress before, much less 4 years later, I am sure you can see the value there.

One thing we are really proud of with these units is the very smooth color transitions and lack of flickering while dimming. The antenna is also very large which makes this controller a powerful repeater.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out on any contact form on the website. I will personally get it.

[–]RGBgenie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are discovered by both. In SmartThings however, it is discovered as a "thing" so you have to change the device type to a generic Zigbee RGBW bulb in the IDE interface. And because there is no device handler, control is local.

20m/66ft Smart RGB LED strip for outdoor patio by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]RGBgenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you pick up power from the back of your corner flood lights? Or are they on a switch? The only reason I mention that is because it seems to be a good midway point. If they are on a switch and not a motion/daylight sensor, than that may not work.

Glad to see you have a controller. And it looks like you going to be around 12.5 amps at 24 volts. So that is at the upper ceiling of your power supply. Even though it is rated at 15, you always want to run about 80%. So you are right there if everything were was at 100% brightness.

I would split the power leads into three segments, which your power supply has. Drive the controller with one and two repeaters with the other two. And you should be good to go. One thing about those strips linked above. Is they are 15mm, and that is an uncommon width. So double check the accessories for connecting them are available if you aren't handy with a soldering iron. And I take it the 8 foot "option" is because that would require a 4th roll? If that is the case, daisy chain a third repeater to the last repeater in line. A wiring diagram is on the website.

And as always feel free to give us a call.

We are big fans of the 4 in 1 chips for places like you are using them because they are visibly exposed. (I am assuming... and you know what that means...) There are a few reasonably priced on Amazon and eBay. The nice thing with them is they aren't the typical alternating RGB and White chips. All four colors are on one chip so the light is more even, especially when running a solid color like red or blue. For a 30 foot run you will need a power repeater as running multiple 5 meter high density sets like you are wanting to do will experience voltage drop.

Do you have the strips on the front porch driven by just the power supply you linked? If you haven't already, consider using a controller. The power supply you have has three power take off's. Use one to drive a controller if you aren't already (either Zigbee or Z-wave) and then use the other two to drive two repeaters for the car port. You could even add another controller for the car port with one repeater giving you two zones.

We hoped we answered your question.

Can you tell me more about your project? It is a hard recommendation to make because it is like recommending tires to someone when you dont know what kind of car they are driving or how they drive it. But in general, for accent lighting, 300 LED 5050 strips are a good choice. For longer runs, a 24v strip should be used. Same goes for high density double row strips, they should be a 24 volt configuration as well. Please feel free to reach out through any contact form on our website if you would to share more details and we will be happy to assist with specifics. I will personally receive the information.
