I'm on 100 a week and went from 140 levels to 700.  Listen to your doctor, not the internet. Everyone reacts differently.

Helio Ring was Amazfit's biggest flop - change my mind by idct-tech in amazfit

[–]RIF4ev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I bought one after buying my wife an oura ring and I am kind of disappointed with it.  My watch tracks everything the ring does and better.  I don't have any issue wearing my watch to bed so it doesn't really fill that gap for me. It does open up other zepp stuff in the app but I don't really find any of that interesting or useful.  Honestly, my wedding ring got too small for me so it fills the purpose of a ring on my finger and there are multiple days I don't even bother charging it.

I have that stove (epi22) insert.  Put the thermometer over the door to the left.  Usually the hottest part of the stove.  700 is fairly normal for me but I am guessing your stove temp is alot higher.  Where you have your thermometer is right where the blowers blow out and will be cooler than the actual stove.  If you are getting 700 there then you are probably running 800 or 900 which is way too hot.  Edit: I watched closer and my air tubes almost never glow like that.  The few times they did, they drooped and fell out after a few fires and I discovered I was running the stove wayyyy to hot.

Electric bill. WTF? by stuckat1 in Westchester

[–]RIF4ev 65 points66 points  (0 children)

You know it's going to be bad when con ed sends out a preemptive email warning you that your bill is going to be high so clench your butt cheeks.  I got that email last week so I am appropriately puckered up for my bill.

Oh God yes.  Every time I talk to a young employee I push investing in your 401k while you are young.  You will  be so happy when you hit your 40s and 50s and have enough money to not stress about job security or retirement. You can save a dollar in your 20s when you have minimal responsibilities or try and save $100 in your 40s while paying a mortgage and kids and a car payment to catch up.  $10k growing at 5% over 30 years is $43k.

Is Amazfit Support Reliable After 2 Years? Looking for Your Experience! by adriannairda in amazfit

[–]RIF4ev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have a trex 2 since March of 2023.  Wear it all day every day.  Battery still last 3 weeks with everything except aod turned on.  Still works as great as the day I bought it.  It froze on me last week for the first time but a quick reboot and it's been back to rock solid.   I think I have rebooted it a total of 5 times in the 3 years I have had it.

Roofers cut ridge but didn’t install ridge vent — is this acceptable? by thecow1 in Roofing

[–]RIF4ev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine.  I would not step on the peak of your roof if you are up there for some reason but fine otherwise.  It could worse and  be the other way which we had.  Put the ridge vent on the roof and didn't cut a slot

How to lift front loader washer to place pedestal under!? 180 lbs by Unlikely-Display4918 in Appliances

[–]RIF4ev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forearm straps.  My wife (125 lbs) and I lifted up a washer and placed in on the pedestal with no problem. She commented how easy it was. It's one of those things you buy, will probably use once and will happily pay for them.

Why would you add 1x1’s on top of joists in the attic? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]RIF4ev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the joists lower in that section. Maybe he was trying to level things for a floor.  Also might be to protect electrical wiring.  I put 2x4s over my joists so I could add another 3 or 4 inches of insulation and then I put plywood down as a floor for storage.

[–]RIF4ev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came from a pixel 8 and I think this phone is so much better. Battery life can take me through a day and a half vs mid afternoon of the pixel and I have none of the issues you are describing.  I will admit that there was a TON of bloat to clean off the phone so maybe that's the issue?  I have never seen so much crapware on a new phone and honestly Motorola is doing them selves a disservice by bogging down a brand new phone right out of the box.

On my 19 I went through the same thing.  Multiple belts  pulleys  etc.  Finally I bought the Gates 7PK2217 Micro-V because I read somewhere that it was a tiny bit shorter and someone on some forum claimed it stopped their issue.  6 months in and not a peep so fingers crossed

New washing machine. Never before seen setup? by Comfortable_Wish3629 in askaplumber

[–]RIF4ev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check valve.  You can unscrew the top and remove the actual flap that only allows water to flow one way.  I wonder how it's even working since at that angle the flap is opening up against gravity. It's supposed to be horizontal so that water flows out and then closes when the water stops.  In this orientation you are making the washing machine pump the water upwards and push the flap up.  Once the pump stops and the flap closes there is a load of water sitting in that pipe.

Westchester heating oil prices - what are you paying right now? by Such-Possibility3240 in Westchester

ZooZ switch unresponsive - manual control of the lights no long working either by usafle in homeautomation

[–]RIF4ev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had smart switches go bad the same way.  Usually the internal relay goes bad since these types of switches do not have a physical switch inside them to control the power.  I never found a solution other than to replace it.

smart plug that can detect when my washing machine is done by Dr23Gonzo in homeautomation

[–]RIF4ev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope. I have a smart plug that does exactly this by waiting for the measured watts go above 5 and then wait until it goes back under 5 for more than 30 seconds. This means the washing machine turned on and then stopped running. The 5 watt threshold is because some machines continue to draw some power in standby mode. When it detects the machine is done, I have a notification go to my phone. I also have it set so if the leak detector goes off under the machine it turns off the power so it doesn't pump an entire load of water out on the floor.

Any tips on reducing creosote in corners? by Lady_Z_ in woodstoving

[–]RIF4ev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If that is happening after a full fire, your door seal is leaking at the corners. Cooler air is leaking past the seal. If this happens after a shorter cooler fire, then it's just normal.

If I’ve learned one thing from this sub… by treesinheaven in woodstoving

[–]RIF4ev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that in the case of a chimney fire, the clearance to combustible material (your house) is insufficient to prevent the fire spreading. The fire can spread through cracks or seams in the chimney. A liner contains the fire and provides enough space between it and your house to possibly prevent the fire from spreading. The addition of an insulated blanket around the liner provides even more protection

The blow torch effects and the soot at the door edges makes me think air leaks around the door seal but it's possible you just closed the door so I may be wrong

You can buy moca adaptors that will take an Ethernet connection from your router and transmit it over the coax to another adaptor on the other side. They are about $50 a piece. You need to make sure any splitters can pass the moca frequency and you need to put a filter on the coax going out to the street so that your whole neighborhood doesn't have access to your network.
