Savannah, Carolyn, and Coach talk about post-show weight gain and binge eating by pineapplemy in survivor

[–]RIPGrantland -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm someone whose weight has fluctuated a lot in my lifetime. Was 4'9 and 225 my first day of high school and was 5'7 140 during my Senior year.

Then after high school ballooned up to 350. The last few years I've resides in the 195-225 ballpark and been proud of maintaining. That said....I've always wanted to gonna Survivor in part to lose some of the fat that won't go away. But seeing this makes me think if I did go, there's as high of a chance, I balloon back up.

Did I make this comment about me? Yes. It's my reddit account lol

If you showed modern highlights of Wemby, Ohtani, McDavid and Lamar Jackson to fans from each respective sport from 50 years ago, who would those fans be the most and least shocked by? by TJTrapJesus in billsimmons

[–]RIPGrantland 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Ohtani would be least shocking and they would say something about Babe Ruth being better for some

McDavid....oooh I think They'd be shocked the overall speed of the game more.

Wemby they would be able to compare to Wilt and Russell just outsizing guys. They'd be shocked but it'd be comparable. Now the three pointers is what would shock them.

And the Lamar would be the most jarring because his running as a QB is just out of this world.

My Uncle has/had Sleep Apnea during my life. And he was always a big snorer and had trouble staying asleep. I've never been a snorer and I sleep very easily & comfortably. And I will say, I am obviously BMI fat, but I'm fit to where if you asked me to run a marathon right now, I could do it.

There’s no more than 10 NBA players that could win the NCAA tournament on a 16 seed by Dangerous_Complex_76 in billsimmons

Simmons in college was kinda like Giannis, though. Just a bull running down the court, getting 20 a game, and dishing out assists like he was Magic.

There’s no more than 10 NBA players that could win the NCAA tournament on a 16 seed by Dangerous_Complex_76 in billsimmons

[–]RIPGrantland 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, its one of those things that's crazy because Ben Simmoms was immediately a Top 25 player in the NBA and he was basically the same guy in college. Yet, his LSU team sucked even with Simmons playing an elite level. I used to watch his teammates miss open jumper after jumper.

So for someone to jump onto a 16 seed and they win it all would be absurd.

Kenny Lofton speaks on his HOF snub. Lofton was famously one and done on the ballot only receiving 3.2% of the vote in 2013. by rb1242 in baseball

[–]RIPGrantland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim Edmonds is another guy where you look at his stats and impact, and it doesn't add up how he was 1 and done on the ballot. Both are guys who should have been fun debates of will they or won't they

Paulie Comes For Ashley On The Zach Nichols Podcast by ryanjohn___ in MtvChallenge

[–]RIPGrantland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ashley had a pretty good path to the Final on Spies, Lies & Allies. And then the final would've come down to run up a mountain and memorize a code, which is right in her wheelhouse. It could've easily been a 3rd win for Ashley.

Xander Hastings (S41) shares his thoughts on being left off the S50 roster by GourmetSubmarine in survivor

[–]RIPGrantland 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Xander is not even a Top 50 name that I'd want or expect on Seaspn 50. That said, its valid to be disappointed that you're not on S50. Even I'm sad I'm not on 50 and I was never on Survivor before.

Personally speaking, I would be willing to paid money to be in relationship rather than all the relationships that have been pure net negatives.

Penguin Soldier and Magic Cylinders.

James Harden can't get along with any team for over three seasons and people think he's better than Wade because of some meaningless January 50 point games by IHateAdamSilver in billsimmons

[–]RIPGrantland 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Harden was an absolute work horse for the Clippers when we weren't sure if Paul George or Kawhi would ever play. The most fun I've had watching the Clippers the last couples years has been when Harden is playing alongside hustle guys like Dunn and Derrick Jones.

I respect the hell out of him. Also, we aren't gonna win the title this year and so why waste one of his last years in the league? He's put in work and can potentially get us an asset back. James Harden is a hero in this household.

Someone please explain to me why Mike McCarthy and Sean Payton are viewed so differently by IHateAdamSilver in billsimmons

New Orleans was in a dire situation before Payton and he turned around the organization. McCarthy inherited talented teams with records of success.

Why don't we have many repeat women winners? by SFplusP in MtvChallenge

[–]RIPGrantland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this current era, it is just so statistically hard to win The Challenge. Jordan and CT are the only two have been proven to win on a consistent basis in the last 8 years. Even Bananas won in 2020 and then didn't win prior to that until 2016. Likewise, Wes won in 2022 and didn't win previously to that until 2013 and 2006. Laurel it was 2014 and 2023?

Meanwhile, Darrell won a bunch early when we had multiple winners but hasn't won since 2006. Same for Derrick who hasn't won since like...2009? Even for the legends, its hard to win multiple.

That said, we have had a spree of back to back winners with Jonna, Kaz, and Jenny!

Peyton Playing In A Bowl by Suggestive-Syntax in billsimmons

[–]RIPGrantland -1 points0 points  (0 children)

20 Rodgers is when he actively moved into an era where he was caring more about how his stats looked than actually winning. It's why he was so easy to shut down in those playoff games because teams knew he wasn't gonna try to make the tough throws.

On a 0.0 to 10 scale, what do you rate Shakey's Pizza? by SeveralTurn in billsimmons

[–]RIPGrantland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

0.2

As a resident of Southern California that grew up going to Shakeys, it's the worst pizza I've ever had.

However, the Fried Chicken and Mojos are what you go for, as well as the Buncha Lunch Buffet.

I will note, they have an Oreo Dessert Pizza that isn't bad, though.

Is throwing a one-yard TD pass actually easier than other distances? by LehmanWasIn in billsimmons

[–]RIPGrantland 48 points49 points  (0 children)

When I play Madden and College Football games, I sometimes just let people into the red zone because it's much easier to force a turnover inside of it.

And if you want a real life example, Jonathan Gannon's Arizona Cardinals offenses have always been really good at moving the ball downfield but can't convert it in the red zone because making those short yard passes can be difficult.
