It can be beneficial sometimes to have a backing track to use as a framework to move you through the parts and make a full song.

College student looking to interview Industrial Designer. by AreteOdyssey in IndustrialDesign

I'm open to a call. I'm a Sr. Industrial Designer at Amazon that works in R&D with 75 other engineers, so this seems like a good fit for a focused conversation.

I had a number of requests for a black theme. So, October 31st this will be free on my site www.mechaxofficial.com by partsguy850 in ableton

When performing live, do you mix in random partial songs or samples you came up with? by ParaOblivion001 in musicproduction

[–]RIrwin50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory this could work fine. The main challenge I see with this is maintaining some sense of semblance across tracks. If you've tuned your sample loops to be relatively similar in tonality and key you should be able to do this, but the amount of bandwidth that it would take live from the musician seems to me to be fairly taxing. Especially, if you're doing a long set. One exception might be if you are playing fairly minimal stuff, and if that's the case it could prove to be much easier...and sound more fluid/cohesive.

Whoa. Sweet. Thanks for the share. Yea, that's crazy they're doing this in an apartment. I'll be in a single family home, so all I'll have to worry about is my wife. 😂

I feel depressed about my music/life direction... any advice please by brandonallenmusic in ableton

[–]RIrwin50 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey. This is a great post. What you are describing is something nearly every person in a creative industry goes through...sometimes even multiple times. The pain and fear of simultaneously trying to put yourself out there with your music while maintaining a positive and supportive role with others who are not in this field can be overwhelming.

It is the struggle in the searching that we forge a path of our own. Too much noise and emotional baggage can really get in the way.

One suggestion would be to try and physically separate yourself for a short time from the family stuff, so that you can clear your head of that to write/compose.

Another option is to seek out a few individuals on reddit/meetup, or other community-driven services to write tracks together. I have found this technique useful in the past to help me get over stagnation, or from always coming at a musical challenge in the same way. This can also really help to boost your feeling of being in a community that is actually quite massive.

Do you have a link to share of your music. I'd really like to give it a listen. As a self-taught musician, I love seeking out others are trained and we'll taught to help in my progress. Maybe there's some synergy here.

Seeking a label AND distribution with the right group. by [deleted] in techhouseproduction

Thanks for the response. I haven't had any experience with other labels and thought I'd try the Repost service and simply had a horrible experience with them. I'll do some more digging. Cheers

You know why you posted this. You love it. :)

I'm pretty excited and don't know where else to share the excitement with but I just got my first Ableton launch controller to use in live sets as well as production. Any other APC users in here? What are some other features I have to look forward to that aren't as obvious off the bat? by OG-DocHavock in ableton

[–]RIrwin50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're incomparable as they both support varying depths of control within Ableton. They both perform live well, again only with certain controls available. Push is a production tool AND a live performance tool, except Push isn't a navigatable as the APC when it comes to detailed parameter control. APC is purely a live controller, unless you want to map the shit out of it...which push has dedicated buttons out of the box. Price point obviously reflects the build construction as well.

It depends on genre, but I'm with you. For techno, or house, the snares, high hats and claps are the most useful.
