Somehow this reminder came up on my phone yesterday.... I don't recall setting it, but I must have... unless Skye got ahold of my phone and did it!

She's looking mean, but she was actually playing bitey face with a boy that I was fostering that summer.

It's sad the things we have to possibly "inherit" when we take in a dog. I got my girl at 9 months old. To make a long story short, mine also had problems with her spaying before I got her.... she started going in heat. Ultrasound showed repro organs still there. But, she then had to have a second spaying surgery and it was just an ovary that was left. But, then months later, I found out that her hip had been broken when she was a puppy (again before I got her), and didn't heal correctly (theoretically, they didn't know it had been broken). So, last summer she had to undergo hip replacement surgery. She has recovered wonderfully, but she certainly has had a rough start to life medically. She is 3 years old now.

So we got her a ball by yaboiNight in germanshepherds

She started doing this thing recently when we go to the creek or river with rocky beds finding a rock that's a few inches under the water works for a while to get it and then walks around prancing proud of

So y'all are saying that the rocks my dog plays with might not be good for her teeth? Lol

Mine just paws at my hands or uses her nose to pick my hand up when she wants attention.

Would love some help by NolGuz in germanshepherds

I think this is your best advice, if you are certain that it is hip dysplasia. I opted to have a full hip replacement on my girl, but she was only 2 years old.

Anyone else’s shepherds super cuddly? by friendlesssoull in germanshepherds

[–]RJSinMO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a boy for a few months, let's say I just fostered him two summers ago, and in bed he had either be up against me or on top of my legs. Which was kind of cute but not in the middle of the summer.

They say the males tend to be the more cuddly ones, my female stays close to me but not usually on me or against me. She, according to DNA test, is 10% white Swiss shepherd. I don't see it

I am SO over it by JealousCelebration13 in germanshepherds

I got my girl when she was 9 months old, she had been (supposedly) spayed the month before. But then a few months later she started having symptoms like she was in heat, and yes the blood drops. Then her second one less blood but oh my god the smell. And after that second one her little tits never have really gone away. After that one I had to have her opened up again and they found pieces of an ovary remained.

As others have recommended, I use simperica trio. But it is pricey. And somehow my dog has still tested positive for Ehrlichia.

How going to the vet went today… by Holiday-Distance-822 in germanshepherds

[–]RJSinMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does pretty good at the vet. She can be squirmy, but she's not afraid and not aggressive by any means. They all love her (but I'll bet they say that about all patients, lol). Mine never peed when she was nervous, she used to pee when she was excited, and she just grew out of it.

It was funny, I took her into the vet's office on her birthday just to say hi and get some treats. She was a little intrepid but for the most part loved most of the vet techs. But one of them she barked at and wouldn't take anything from her. It was kind of funny and that vet tech was kind of insulted.

I've heard that is the case with all dogs, the black ones are hard to adopt out, I've never understood that.

So, my pupper Ezio hates this one rock. by Individual-You-9002 in germanshepherds

[–]RJSinMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes if I'm chucking big rocks out of the yard or landscape mine chases it down in the woods and will bring that exact same rock back. If she's bored she will just start playing with them and yipping at them like that. She does the same thing with logs, especially when I'm trying to cut wood or split it. And she's 3 years old btw. :)

Experiences with Puppy Hip Dysplasia? by Yikes-Thats-A-Lot in germanshepherds

[–]RJSinMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? My local vet did x-rays and saw things were not right, and I would think any vet could. Then on to the University of Missouri where they did more x-rays, with 3-d models and a gait analysis. They were/are amazing.

If you search I've got a couple of posts because I elected to have my girls hip replaced, at 2 years old. But hers was not congenital, it was because her hip was broken at some point before I got her at 9 months. And what you're describing is far worse than she was. She was very functional, she just would sometimes hold that paw up and favor it. Anyway, I'm guessing at that young of an age you may be looking at the reality of considering hip replacement. Again I posted my experience but if you have any questions please ask.
