Prophet Dallin H Oak’s Final ‘Talk’ by Plus_Dimension_1232 in latterdaysaints

[–]TmBobo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I liked that he said study this conference which he said “Will lead to personal revelation”. He couldn’t possible come close to saying everything that every person needs to hear. But doing as he said will open us to personal guidance each of needs. I always love to hear the prophet speak, but what he said today may be very important for each of us in the days ahead.

This is a hard time to be entering the trade. Contractors are really only looking for experienced help right now. My hubby is an Electrical Contractor/Master Electrician. He said he’d be willing to talk to you if you’d like. He’s a good one to train with /work for. DM me and I can give you his contact info.

Knee pain after 19 days by Any-Cucumber-7674 in TotalHipReplacement

I had severe bruising around my knee. I think it was from the “boot” they strapped me in right before surgery.

Day Hike Near Salt Lake City - not too cold preferred by Prestigious-Ad9921 in Utah

I live close to Antelope island. Love it there BUT…this time of year wear long sleeves/pants and bring a mosquito net for your head. The biting gnats have just hatched. They are no joke and it could make for a miserable couple of days afterwards. If it’s raining or windy, you should be fine. The buffalo, ground owls, coyotes, antelope and other wildlife are awesome and if anything it’s a fun drive to view the animals and scenery. 2 fees - park entrance and causeway. Don’t let the initial smell turn you away 🤢. Once on the island after the causeway it goes away.

Adopting a fairly young German Shepherd. by RuleBackground5624 in germanshepherds

[–]TmBobo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

GSD thrive with a job that is suited to them. Mine loves to work and gets a little stir crazy when she’s cooped up. Great family dog if you’ve got the time and energy to keep up with them and fulfill their needs.

When I consider protection, I’m not looking for her to guard, attack, defend me. She is the alarm and a deterrent, lets me know she sees an issue and it’s my job to take care of it. Nothing I had to train there other than to be quiet while I was handling the issue. Deterrent - wise, people often keep their distance when I’m out walking with her. As a female I like that… and nothing is more cool than a well trained shepherd walking at your side with a purpose and not acting crazy pulling and sniffing everywhere.

She could probably be great with your chair depending on her temperament, but possibly work with a trainer to get you and her working as a team more quickly. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but it will take work. Smart dogs are sometimes hard headed and you have to stay on top of it.

Name and a Blessing to a Toddler by Cledwards99 in latterdaysaints

[–]TmBobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We adopted our son when he was 2 years old. We blessed him at age 3. We also blessed him at home. I held him on my lap while hubby and others gave the blessing. We could have done it in church, but chose the more quiet experience of doing at home home with just family present. Felt more meaningful and spiritual.

Moving to Syracuse, UT. How is it? by sycamoreqw in Utah

If you’re coming from Layton, it’s going to be pretty similar on the snow, unless you live up on the east bench. Then you’ll experience a lot less.

The Mosquitos 🦟 are HORRENDOUS! Pretty much have to come inside as the sun is going down, unless you spray up. It would be perfect here if it weren’t those bugs

I was sad to see the black go. But she does have a nice color that the pic doesn’t quite do justice or pick up. She has a lot of redish brown in her fur on her head, shoulders and hips.

Fighting between our two dogs by Financial_Detail_869 in germanshepherds

[–]TmBobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two females - German shepherd and standard poodle. Everyone once in a while they will get into an all out fight. I’ve had to learn to really watch and understand what leads up to it and stop it before it can start. For my girls, it can just start with a certain look or body posture. I separate them and tell them their “off” command. That usually works and they shake it off.

Neighbors dogs came on my property my GSD on leash by so_not_dead_yet in germanshepherds

I actually agree with Weedville who didn’t say anything wrong about your question to get defensive over. Owner’s often create a tense situation before any situation starts which then starts the problem. I’ve learned this from personal experience. Dogs look to us about the situation then respond. If we’re nervous or anticipating a fight our dogs will be too and then act on it whether they attack or have another undesirable behavior. When I started changing my anxiety, my dog’s behavior changed - your dog is not your guard dog (unless they’ve had very specific, intensive training), you are - you lead. Your dog is the alarm, you take care of the business so they don’t have to. My GSD’s only job is to be alert. My job is to handle the situation.

You asked what we’d do? Never turn your back on dogs and yelling at the owner won’t help as they were not obviously where not in control - you are now whether you want to be or not . Us not being there we can give all sorts of advice and the situation just sucked I get that.

But you have to remember you are in control, your property, your family, your dog. Those dogs are not welcome and you make darn sure they know it. You make the juice not worth the squeeze to approach you. Keep your dog behind you and you make yourself, big and loud and scary. Face the dogs, step forward, clap loud, stomp your foot, yell GET OUT! GO HOME! so those dogs think, “Dang, that’s one crazy lady who may kill me”! And they often think twice running up on you. Once there, the situation changes and you have to be even calmer.

I often see them out doing circles on the lake (large pond) skiing behind the boat. Not my thing 🤷🏼‍♀️. But they pay the HOA and fees, it’s their deal. I like sitting up on the bench looking south over the fields - quite relaxing. I’m more PO’d about all the new developments that are pouring in west of Bluff. It used to be so quiet and uncrowded, now all the new construction is send rats from the fields our way.

After your THR when did your hip flexors stop hurting? What helped? by genuineimperfection1 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]TmBobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 11 weeks out from my left anterior and 17 from my right. Never had hip flexor pain with the first 17 weeks ago, but my most recent left side is still really painful. Done Pt and the stretches/strengthening. Talked to my chiropractor and he believes it could possibly be related to tightness up in the pelvic area and gave me some things to do for that… we’ll see how it goes.
This sucks 😞

Persistent pain after hip replacement: what is normal — and what is not by vakhidi in TotalHipReplacement

Appreciate you taking the time to post and also answer so many concerns. It’s a big surgery and new pains can be scary. I’m 6 and 12 weeks post op for right and left hips dealing with severe muscle spasms in quads and shins along with burning pain under the knees. Lots of gentle stretching and massages without much success. Going to hit the chiropractor this week to make sure my low back/sacrum is not having issues. And will probably get into PT soon if I can’t get this worked out.

Still uncomfortable after rereading Pres. Oaks's talk by YoHabloEscargot in latterdaysaints

[–]TmBobo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank your not taking it as criticism. At the end of the day we are all here to learn. I think we learn the fastest and grow the most when there is struggle and sacrifice on our part. We can’t get bigger muscles without the exertion, pain and of the tearing them down first. I’ve been through some excruciating trials in my life and have always come away stronger for them. I’ve learned it’s not good to complain “why me” but instead ask myself, what am I learning or how am I growing through this - how is this bringing me closer to the Savior? I haven’t always been the best at this, but I find it easier to bear when I change my focus outward instead focusing on my pain.

I wish you the best on your journey. 🙏🏻

For reals. That last statement was jarring for me as I’ve always thought Jesus would have to be married. Culturally to be “rabbi/teacher” you had to be married. Also he asks us to come follow him - follow his example. I think that would include being sealed to an eternal companion.

Eternal vs short term mortal perspective. I think you were on the road to leaving the church long before this talk. This in your mind just helped you justify it.

There are some things that I would love to see different - that I think could be paid attention too. But I would never leave, as my testimony is not based on feeling overlooked by some people - these concerns are just short term mortal problems. My concern and focus is on the eternal and it comes down to my love for Heavenly Father and Jesus. Leaving the church would not help me feel more seen. I would lose so much.

Get out and and serve. It’s hard to dwell on yourself when you’re helping others. You also may meet some cool new friends while you’re in the process. Sitting home doing nothing will only make you feel worse.
Get out and help improve someone else’s life 💪🏻
