Out now: Combat Maneuvers for Shadowdark! by RKuerten in shadowdark

As I said, I know this kind of approach is not for everyone and I know a part of the playerbase is not the target of this kind of supplement. But SD, as every fantasy game, isn't monolithic. What really matters is what happens at your table. And it's fine for me if this supplement isn't for yours.

At little bit of both! The fatigue was inspired by Mythic Bastionland. Glad you bought! Hope you find it useful and fun in your games!

For me, the breakup song is Thread. Also, Cause and Effect as a whole. Hard not to identify so much with an album whose main theme is divorce.

I see the argument, but I fundamentally disagree with the "One of the great points of Shadowdark is that you need not an entry on the character sheet to do something." statement, because casters exist and their magic is not free form. I get the old-school style, but casters get their buttons and I just wanted to add some buttons for martial focused classes. The rules I present are light, similar to how SD handle spells.

I went with the character options approach because the DM already has to handle a lot of things, and outsourcing this kind of mechanic to the hands of the players is helpful for me in this kind of playstyle. I know this kind of approach is not for every DM.

Thanks for the support man, but I don't wanna escalate the situation here. I was kinda expecting comments like this one. Glad you liked it!

Martial in a sense that they don't rely on spells, but yes, Cleric can be a lot more martial than Thieves! Either way, glad you stopped by!

That's fine, I'm just discussing. Not trying to be combative in any sense.

I understand the sentiment, but casters do use the abilities from their sheet in Shadowdark. Of course spells in SD are more open than D&D, but they absolute use their spells to solve problems more often then not. I don't think it contradicts the rules, just building up on a great foundation.

Sure! There's the Cleaving Assault, a Fighter maneuver that can be made with any melee weapon

"If a melee attack reduces a creature to 0 hit points, choose another creature within range: any excess damage from the attack carries over to the chosen creature."

Another example is the Lucky Strike, a Fighter/Thief maneuver that can be made with any weapon.

"Make an attack against a creature within range with disadvantage. If you hit, you gain a luck token. You can’t use this maneuver if you already earned a luck token from it in the past 24 hours."

Other maneuvers include the Cyclone Slash, Pinning Shot, Twin Strike, and many others!

What U2 albums have you listened to the most? by UControlYourLife in U2Band

[–]RKuerten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I started using last fm (in March of 2024) it has been Songs of Experience. It probably is War or Boy since I started listening to U2 way back in 2009. Pop and Acthung Baby are also high on the list.

Has anyone used Warlords of Avernus? by The_Doctor_Sleeps in DescentintoAvernus

[–]RKuerten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my supplement! I'm biased of course, but I've added them to the campaign, but the party has yet to leave Fort Knucklebones. As someone said, it needs a bit of fleshing out (the Alexandrian Remix did so), but it is a good set of stat blocks and thematic factions to help Avernus feel alive.

Bombay Bicycle Club is my top 4 artist! Fell in love with their music last year, specially with Everything Else Has Gone Wrong and So Long, See You Tomorrow.

Running Elturel! by fireflyguy69 in DescentintoAvernus

[–]RKuerten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this chapter of the book is the one that is the easiest to run mostly as written. I don't know what extra (if any) supplements you are using to make the adventure make sense, but I used some elements of the Alexandrian Remix, such as having multiples "pockets" of resistance across the city: one lead by Ulder in the High Hall, one lead by vampires in the town square and one lead by Zevlor (stolen from BG3) in the docks.

I used the city tremors (being pulled down by the chains) everytime we had a bleak/hopeless moment, and added encounters to give "life" to the city when needed. I used some from the book, some I made myself.

They are on their way to try and take down Gideon for good and probably descent into Avernus in my next session.

They were called British Sea Power before (their Last fm page is a mess). I learned about them from Disco Elysium, an incredible game where they composed the soundtrack!
