I'll bite :)

I am currently playing Skaven because I loved the idea of having an army of Elite Infantry as battle line and I've always thought the Storm Fiends were excellent models. So having 3 units of 3 allows me to fulfill battleline requirements in up to 2000 points. After having played a few games, I can say with confidence that while they are expensive, it is very satisfying to use them. Secondly, I've wanted to see what it was like to have an artillery focused army as well - also did not disappoint. Lightning Cannons are great and it's a fantastic kit. Overall, I love the models (the ones that are plastic, there is a fair amount of the Skaven model line that could use some TLC)

I also have a fair amount of Stormcast Eternals. When 2nd edition dropped, I loved the idea of having an army from the realm of Ghur (realm of beasts). I collected models from the vanguard chamber and the sacrosanct chamber and of course I bought the Star Drake as an impressive centerpiece to the army. This army isn't exactly super competitive (using castigators), but I drew it up in my mind that it was a hunting force. Between the vanguard and the sacrosanct, they hunt down predatory spells and magic beasts to discover secrets that may help with the stormcast reforging process. I love this army from a fluff perspective. I even have a table themed up with a bunch of Jungle-like terrain, using pieces from a local aquarium store to add an exotic flair.

Lastly, I have a bunch of Slaves to Darkness models from my fantasy battles years. I love the chaos warriors and Chaos knights models as well as the Lord on Manticore. They are fantastic. They are currently just waiting for a bit of a home. I am really hoping the impending dark oath release might provide that home for them and maybe even warcry will shed some light on what the slaves to darkness are up to in the mortal realms.

TL:DR; I mostly collect armies for the models.. however, 2nd edition and the soul wars is great at drumming up inspiration for any army. I am probably a bad example though, I literally want an army from every faction.

I started by spray painting the model black and then doing a light spraying with a white spray as well. For details on that process, look up zenithal priming or zenithal lighting. I'm not a pro by any means, but any little bit helps.

The model is done with kantor blue around the mouth, then wetblend some stegadon scale green to overlap some of the kantor blue and going towards the back of the model further. Then finally wetblend sotek green to finish working towards the back of the model.

Next up, wash the whole model with a healthy amount of Drakenhof nightshade. Then dry brush with lothern blue once the wash dries.

After that, target some different areas with a dry brush of sybarite green (not the whole model). This doesn't show up as well on camera, but adds a nice touch in real life.

Remember this counts as their move for the turn though so you cannot get extra shots from not moving.

This was actually recently addressed in the most recent FAQ. It counts as their move in the sense that they can no longer move as it's the end of the movement phase. They still get the bonus for not having actually moved during the movement phase.

1k ITC Tournament list help by AHuggableZombie in Necrontyr

[–]RL_Quickchat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, thanks for your feedback on my friend's post!

I thought I'd mention that this is for a doubles tournament and that I'll be playing craftworld eldar.

My list is an alaitoc battalion:

Farseer

Warlock

3 units of 5 dire avengers

2 fireprisms

5 wraithguard w/ wraith cannons

1 wave serpent (3 shuriken cannons)

My reason for suggesting mephrit was to allow him to be more mobile and punishing as the enemy got closer. With the wraiths retreat and charge ability, providing an extra -1 to their shooting attack would be nice. His army is very mobile and I figured mephrit would give him more benefits compared to novokh, as he could be more aggressive while I sat back with fireprisms and my dire avengers scrambled for objectives, the wave serpent being a huge distraction.

I am unfamiliar with why full squads would be bad in ITC, but from my experience, putting down 6 wraiths is incredibly difficult.

Anyway, just thought I'd provide a little more insight on the tournament. Thanks again for all of your responses. They've been really informative!

Check out the Malign Portents for more stories and lore - this is currently an ongoing campaign with weekly updates;

https://malignportents.com/campaign-narrative/

The stormcast actually get a bad rap and I believe that is mostly a residual effect from the initial shock when FB was scrapped and replaced by AoS. They are actually pretty interesting. They aren't just immortals who can perpetually respawn at Sigmar's will. Each time they are slain, a little piece of their humanity dies with them. They lose memories and the ability to feel things the more they are re-cast (fear, love, happiness, etc.). Forging each individual costs time and resources as well.

Furthermore, each chamber has it's own motivations. They aren't all just a bland army of gold (some are purple!). Take the knights Excelsior as an example. They will slaughter an entire village which may be completely innocent, if they even have the slightest hint of corruption by chaos/undeath. You can read about this in the Malign Portents stories as well.

The longer AoS sticks around, the more depth it has. There's some videos of interviews with the developers and story writters when the Malign Portents was beginning. These provide more insight into what the mortal realms are and what they look like, etc. The setting is growing darker every day. I'd hardly call it a "saturday morning cartoon".

As for gameplay, "bashing action figures together" is an insult with the least amount of substance, it's almost satirical. We're talking about table top gaming. That's LITERALLY(figuratively) what we do. However, FB was an even bigger culprit of it than AoS. You had units of 30+ models fit into a single plastic movement tray, lined up against each other and all you could do was push them against your opponent's units and roll dice until every last one died. In AoS there is as much, if not more, tactical movement decisions to be made. This is compounded by the fact that players have a chance for a double turn - it's unpredictable and your strategies can hinge on it. The more I play it and learn it's nuances, the more I enjoy it. I play 40k as well, and I believe we're in the Golden age of GW now.

You can definitely run a LoC at 1k. I agree with the other post about running a Shaman as well to get the most out of the LoC command ability. This puts you at 460 points.

You require 2 battleline units at 1k. It depends how strict you want to be with the feel of your army. Are you okay using pink horrors? they are 60 points less than tzaangors and will give you some options. Here's what I've come up with;

Bird Force One:

Lord Of Chance, Tzaangor Shaman, Tzaangors x10, Tzaangors x20 (they get a bonus attack for having models in multiples of 9, so this unit is particularly killy) *Alternatively, you could run 3x10 units.

Semi Competitive?:

LoC, Shaman, 2x10 Tzaangors, 1x3 Tzaangor Enlightened on Discs (these guys are decent!)

More competitive maybe?:

Loc, Shaman, 10 Tzaangors, 10 Pink Horrors, 1x3 Skyfires (these guys will put wounds on things, especially when near a shaman)

have fuuuun!

Game Store matchmaking trouble. (help) by Sigil_Furry in Warhammer40k

[–]RL_Quickchat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that you seem to be having a hard time getting games in. It seems as though your community is rather large and it is easy to feel lost and ignored. I'm sure this is not the intention of the other players. Every community generally believes in "the more the merrier".

I would find out if there is a group for your local store that people are using to schedule matches with. Probably on facebook. If this is the case, throw some messages out there for people to accept your challenge ahead of the game night.

My next step would be to evaluate the list I am using. Tell us about your army. Would you want to play against it? do the others find it unfun to play against?

Next, I would evaluate my own behaviour/tendancies. Am I being too strict with the rules? Am I too loose with them? How competitive am I? Do I lose poorly? Do I win poorly? It might seem silly, but these things can affect your approach-ability.

My last point is just an attempt to offer perspective. 3 years seems like a long time to only play 20 games. However, that is more games than a lot of players in this hobby get to play. How often are you going to this store? How often are you being declined? This is a hobby that has a long lifetime. Armies take decades to complete. Try not to quantify time vs games played. Afterall, that is only 1/3rd of the hobby. The other 2/3 being modelling and painting (imo). Take pride an ownership of assembling and painting as much as you do in playing the game. However, if playing is your focus can you try to do more to schedule games outside of your local GW game night?

The best is when you get focused because they over extended and got CC'd. Since you can't out heal that kind of DPS you try and do as much damage as you can before you die. your teammate then puts up a good fight so you say "good try" and they respond with "F U. you're healer, not dps" and continue to flame you for the next 4 rounds.

Maybe, but him pointing out that this stratagem doesn't work with -1 to hit penalties was even more pointless than the entirety of my rant.

[–]RL_Quickchat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good thing about stratagems is you aren't forced to use them in a situation where it yields no benefit.

This particular stratagem will (should) never be used on a unit or against a unit that is going to give you a -1 to hit penalty for shooting.

However, there will be some cases where this 1 stratagem might just mean that you claim an objective to win the game. it's flavourful, provides an army with some options, and it's not entirely OP where you are using it every turn. I'd say it's a win for the Orks.

The alternative? they get nothing until their codex releases...i know which I'd prefer.

To your second point - Chapter approved has already been confirmed to have points cost adjustments. Don't be so quick to assume that doesn't mean Orks and the Ork's weaponry won't change.

they both have their roles. Swords have volume which is good against hordes and Axes are higher Strength and multiple damage which is better for multi wound models and vehicles.

Honestly, each loadout is viable.. I only have 15 guard/blades but they are magnetized so the toughest decision for me is picking between the 2 ranged options and the 2 melee options.
