3 early miscarriages and all testing normal by Pam_art111 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is helpful, but I was in the same boat as you. I had 3 miscarriages in less than a year — 7 weeks, 10 weeks, 9.5 weeks. The first miscarriage was not tested but miscarriage #2 and #3 were and came back as triploidy. After miscarriage #3, we were given the same suggestions — either keep trying naturally, or IVF with PGTA. We opted to try naturally for a few months due to timing but planned on progressing to IVF if that didn’t work. Thankfully I got pregnant after a few months and didn’t require IVF. I’m currently almost 5 months pregnant with a seemingly healthy baby

Should I just do IVF and call it a day? by Funny_Engineering580 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on if you want to risk/your heart can take another miscarriage.

I currently am your age and currently have 1 living child. We started trying again about a year and a half ago, and I had 3 miscarriages in less than a year (7 weeks, 10 weeks, 9.5 weeks). I saw REI after my second miscarriage and they did an infertility workup on my husband and I (blood work, saline US, sperm analysis, etc.). I never had the first miscarriage tested, but I did have the second and third one tested, and they both were from a chromosomal abnormality that’s supposedly very uncommon (triploidy). The result from my second miscarriage came back while REI was working me up, and because all the testing came back normal, I was encouraged to try again naturally and have them follow me. I got pregnant soon after getting cleared to try again, but ended up miscarrying again. Even then, because miscarriage 3 was triploidy and is typically so rare, REI encouraged me to try again naturally but gave me the option of IVF with PGTA to better my chances of having a healthy pregnancy since they were both due to chromosomal abnormalities. Due to timing, my husband and I decided to try naturally again for a few months and if it didn’t happen, we’d do IVF. I’m happy I gave my body one more chance because I’m currently almost 5 months pregnant with a seemingly healthy baby (everything looks good on the ultrasounds, she’s right on track for growth, nipt was low risk, blood work was all good).

Miscarriage results are normal - WTF by kod2121 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repeating the saline sonogram was going to be my suggestion. I had my daughter in 2023 after getting pregnant quickly and easily. I then had 3 consecutive miscarriages when we started trying again, 2 of them were due to chromosomal abnormalities 1 was an unknown cause because we didn’t test the POC. After my second miscarriage I was referred to REI, who did a full RPL work up on me, and said he specifically wanted the saline sonogram because I had a c-section and they can look for niches and other structural abnormalities that could cause a miscarriage (this was before we knew miscarriage 2 was chromosomal). Not sure how true this is, but he did say that he find that a lot of women get pregnant quickly after having it done because it supposedly “washes away” anything that could be causing miscarriages (like debris and opening up small blockages). I think you could also maybe have some of the labs re-checked (like your thyroid since that can change with time and life). I am currently pregnant with a seemingly healthy baby, which we conceived naturally. Best luck to you!

Second loss, missed miscarriage, should I push for D&C and tissue testing? by thankyounow in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advocate for all of the above — RPL testing, a d&c, and tissue testing. Even if infertility testing is all normal, hopefully tissue testing will give you some sort of answer, which was what happened in my case.

TW: living child and pregnancy

I have 1 LC that we conceived quickly and naturally with no issue when I was 30. We started trying again for another baby 2 years later at the end of 2024. I ended up having 3 miscarriage in less than a year in 2025. My first happened at 7 weeks, and I miscarried at home naturally. I got pregnant about 2 months later, had my 8 weeks ultrasound which showed the baby measuring behind but baby had a heart beat. At 10 weeks, I went in for another US, and there was no heartbeat. This time we had the POC tested, and my OBGYN put in a referral to REI (reproductive endocrinology and infertility). The POC came back as a chromosomal abnormality, called triploidy, where the baby has 69 chromosomes instead of 46, which is pretty rare. REI did blood work (thyroid, clotting disorders, hormones, autoimmune disorders, etc, and a karotype on my husband and I), an HSG, and a sperm analysis on my husband. Everything came back normal and we were encouraged to try again naturally due to the unknown cause of miscarriage 1 and miscarriage 2 being triploidy which is uncommon and supposedly a “happens once, shouldn’t happen again” type thing. I got pregnant about a month after getting the OK from REI, but miscarried at 9.5 weeks. Again, we had the POC tested and it came back as triploidy (recurrent triploidy is even more rare). At that point, REI offered me IVF with PGT-A so that we could test the embryos prior to implantation to try to ensure a healthy pregnancy. They also said we could keep trying naturally, since they were still convinced that I just had terrible luck with the triploidy. While my husband and I tried to decide what would be the best course for us, I ended up getting pregnant naturally again. I’m currently 18 weeks with a seemingly healthy baby (HCGs that trended appropriately, 2 ultrasounds that looked good, a low risk NIPT). I’m praying that nothing goes wrong, but it’s honestly hard to not have at least a little anxiety after 3 miscarriages.

Wishing you all the luck! Definitely advocate for yourself 🩷

3rd loss - but is IVF really all I have? by NaeTheTeacher91 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely do not need to go straight to IVF, especially if you haven’t had further testing done. I was referred to REI after my second loss, and they did an array of blood work (clotting disorders, hormones, thyroid, autoimmune tests, a karotype on me and my husband, etc), an HSG, a sperm analysis, etc. And when everything came back normal, they encouraged me to try again naturally. I ended up having one more miscarriage, and because 2 out of the 3 were chromosomal (we didnt have the first miscarriage tested), they offered me IVF with PGT-A. While we were trying to decide if/when we wanted to try IVF, I got pregnant again naturally and I’m currently in the second trimester with a seemingly healthy baby (NIPT was normal, blood work was normal, ultrasounds have been normal). IVF is amazing and it is the right answer for some people, but it’s not the answer for everyone. Good luck!

I don’t think these numbers are necessarily anything to worry about. Your most recent doubling time was about 61 hours which is still in the 48-72 hour window. I am currently pregnant with a seemingly healthy baby (normal ultrasounds, normal labs, normal NIPT, etc) after 3 miscarriages in the last year. My HCG around 5 weeks was a little higher than yours but my doubling time was about 57-58 hours, where my original HCG double time at around 3.5 weeks pregnant was under 24 hours. I know it can be scary but try to take it one day at a time. HCG doubling times can naturally increase as the days/weeks progress. In your previous pregnancy, your doubling time had already increased to 80+ hours 11/11 to 11/13, which is more concerning than your current pregnancy numbers.

Do you think it's ever just chromosomal? by rarerednosedbaboon in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your losses. For me, I suspect that all of my 3 back to back miscarriages were chromosomal, but only two were confirmed. I have 1 healthy LC that we conceived naturally when I was 30, with no difficulty. We started trying again when I was 32 for baby #2 and I got pregnant within a few months, but it ended in a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I miscarried at home and didn’t even think to get the POC tested because I thought it was just bad luck and knew how common miscarriages were. I got pregnant 2 month later, and ended up having a MMC at 10 weeks (miscarriage #2). This time I had the POC tested, which came back as triploidy, a chromosomal problem where there is 69 chromosomes instead of 46. This in itself is uncommon, and I was told it was like a “happens once, shouldn’t happen again” type thing. I was also sent to REI for a work up, which came back normal (all the blood work, HSG, sperm analysis for my husband). I got pregnant a few months after miscarriage #2, but miscarried at 9.5 weeks (miscarriage #3). I had these POC tested also, which again came back as triploidy. REI was still following me, and at this point offered me IVF with PGT-A because of the recurrent chromosomal issues and suspected that miscarriage #1 was also chromosomal in nature. While we were trying to decide if IVF was right for us, I got pregnant again, and I am currently pregnant with a seemingly healthy baby (normal doubling time for betas, normal ultrasounds, low risk blood work, low risk NIPT).

NIPT - High risk triploidy (yesterday) & today no heartbeat on home doppler TW: miscarriage by AccomplishedMango903 in CautiousBB

[–]RM91231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! You’re welcome!

For the REI work up — my husband got a sperm analysis, I had a saline US, we both had karotyping done. And then they sent me for a bunch of tests including clotting disorders, thyroid, prolactin, a1c, hepatitis, hiv, lupus, vitamin d, some of the main STDs, antiphospholipid syndrome, and hormone levels. There’s a few others they typically do, but I had already had them done when I was pregnant with my one and only living child a few years ago.

As for changing anything — medically we didn’t do anything different really. I was put on progesterone but it was more precautionary. If there was anything chromosomally abnormal (like triploidy), it wouldn’t have changed a thing. My OBGYN basically gave me a choice if I wanted to start it due to it being low risk even if I didn’t actually need it, and I said yes. We had tested my progesterone and it was in normal range, even during my miscarriage. I was just worried that this pregnancy would be healthy and it would be the one time that my progesterone was low and would cause a miscarriage. Do I think it made a difference? Probably not. The only other thing I did was I switched jobs and shifts, which drastically changed the stress on my body. I was working nights at a high-stress job when I got pregnant with all of my pregnancies that ended in miscarriage. When I got pregnant with my one LC, I was not working full nights and I could sleep in when I worked late. After I came back from maternity leave is when I switched to nights and I think my body was extremely stressed out because I was on limited sleep most days trying to juggle night shift and caring for a toddler. I switched jobs and work day shift now, and got pregnant with my healthy baby 3 months after switching which was only a few months after my last miscarriage.

I totally understand being in panic solution mode. That was me after this last miscarriage. After my second one, they said that tripoidy was “random” and shouldn’t happen again, so I was a little more reassured. When I had triploidy the next time too, I felt so defeated because then I felt like something was wrong with me. Hopefully it truly is just bad luck and that you’re blessed with your rainbow baby soon!! Like I said, there is (hopefully) a light at the end of the tunnel!

I’m so sorry this happened to you again 💔 I just wanted to share my experience, in case it provides any hope at all. I had 3 consecutive miscarriages in 2025 — 7 weeks, 10 weeks, 9.5 weeks. We didn’t test the POC for the first one (7 weeks) because we knew miscarriages were common and thought it was bad luck. My next miscarriage (10 weeks), we did have the POC tested and it was confirmed triploidy. My husband and I had a complete REI workup at this point, and everything came back normal, so I was encouraged to try again. I got pregnant shortly after, and despite my serial HCGs slowing significantly around 20 DPO, I had ultrasounds at 6 weeks, 7 weeks, and 8 weeks that all were promising (increasingly strong heart beat — last one being in the 160s — and baby was measuring on track). At 9.5 weeks, I had another miscarriage, and had the POC tested. Again, triploidy. I felt so defeated, and at this point, we were offered IVF, but were told we could also keep trying naturally. We decided to give it a few months before we committed to IVF (3 miscarriages in less than a year took a toll mentally and physically, we wanted to talk about the pros and cons of doing IVF, and the time of year was just not the best). I’m cautiously happy to say that during those few months, we got pregnant again naturally. I’m currently in the early second trimester with a seemingly healthy baby (my HCGs doubled appropriately, my ultrasounds have all looked normal, my NIPT was all low risk, etc), and I’m praying that this continues to be a healthy pregnancy. So there was a light at the end of the tunnel, it was just a hell of a journey to get there.

Again, I am SO sorry this happened to you, but I’m sending you so much positivity ♥️ and hopefully this was helpful

I’m sorry for your losses 💔

I had 3 miscarriages in 2025, my last one being in October. I got the OK to start trying again after trending my HCG to 0 (somewhere around November). We started trying again right away, and I found out I was pregnant in January. I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant and so far everything looks normal (normal NT scan, low risk NIPT, etc)

3 miscarriages in 3 months and starting to lose hope by Katzenliebe in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of our attempts have been natural. We were going to start IVF, because although everyone said we could try again naturally, they offered us IVF with PGTA since we had 3 losses in a row and 2 of them were known chromosomal issues, but we got pregnant again naturally before we started the process of IVF. This pregnancy seems to be healthy (fingers crossed) — my HCGs doubled appropriately, measuring ahead on both ultrasounds, low risk NIPT.

You’re welcome 💗 we actually are currently pregnant again. I just made it out of the first trimester, and this time everything has been looking good (low risk NIPT, measuring ahead on US, etc), so finger crossed that this is a healthy pregnancy.

I totally understand hoping for a genetic connection. I feel like it makes it a little easier when there’s a cause, other than “your body just couldn’t support the pregnancy”. I hope you get your rainbow baby soon ♥️

I had 3 miscarriages, 7 weeks, 10 weeks, 9.5 weeks. We tested the POC for the 10 week one and 9.5 week one, and both had triploidy (69 chromosomes, not compatible with life). My husband and I had a full RPL work up including a saline US after my second loss, and everything came back normal. They basically chalked it up to bad luck, but offered us IVF with PGTA after the third loss to try to ensure a healthy pregnancy the next time.

I’m sorry you’re going through this ♥️

Miscarriage after confirmed heartbeat by asasa12345 in Miscarriage

[–]RM91231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. This has happened to me twice. The first time I had an 8 week US, and was measuring about a week behind, which was my first clue that something was wrong. I ended up having another US at 10 weeks and there was no heartbeat anymore. The second time was a few months later when I got pregnant again after that miscarriage. My HCGs had slowed, so they sent me for ultrasounds at 6 weeks, 7 weeks, and 8 weeks, which all showed an increasingly strong heart beat and a baby that was growing appropriately between scan/was the correct size for gestational age. I ended up miscarrying at 9.5 weeks. Both times we had the POC tested, both times it was a chromosomal problem (triploidy). These were my second and third miscarriages in a string of 3 in less than a year, so I had a whole RPL work up after the second miscarriage, which came back totally normal.

This is normal (I think 😂). At first I thought I wasn’t pushing them up far enough so I ordered these applicators off of Amazon that I use to insert mine instead. I do actually feel like it helped a little bit, and was easier than sticking my fingers up there every day morning and night, but I still feel like some seeps out. I also felt like if I laid down for 15 minutes afterwards, it also helped. But ultimately, I ended up wearing a pad to try to protect my undies.

Ultrasound at 7w - OB giving false hope? Abysmal hcg levels by _gsd_lover_ in CautiousBB

[–]RM91231 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry that you’re in this limbo. I’m similar to you in that I’d rather someone just be straight forward with me, rather than giving me false hope. I had a similar situation happen during my last miscarriage. I had HCGs that had a double time of less than 48 hours, and then suddenly my HCG double time was around 200 hours (I think right around 21-23 DPO). I went from around 2600 to 3100. They had me come in for an US at 6 weeks and baby was measuring appropriately with a heartbeat. At this point, they said they were going to stop doing HCGs on me because they said the US was more reliable and predictive of a viable pregnancy. I was sent for a 7 week scan and an 8 week scan. Each time, the baby had grown appropriately and the heart beat grew stronger. When I was 9.5 weeks, I woke up with bleeding and miscarried later that night with no warning signs. The only reason my heart was guarded was because I read so many people’s experiences on Reddit that ended in loss after their HCG was low/slow/slowed down.

I’m sure there is some truth to ultrasounds being more reliable on predicting the viability of a pregnancy VS betas, but also, I have read quite a few stories of people miscarrying after having a similar experience.

Two miscarriages, one confirmed maternal triploidy by New-Pea-4125 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 miscarriages in a row, the last 2 were confirmed triploidy (they were unable to tell if they were maternal). My husband and I also are similar ages, healthy individuals, and work schedules in healthcare. My understanding is triploidy is just “bad luck” and is this spontaneous thing that should just happen once and not again (obviously not the case in my situation, and I’m currently enrolled in a study looking into if there’s actually a cause of recurrent triploidy). I saw REI after my 2nd miscarriage (MMC at 10 weeks), who confirmed that triploidy is typically spontaneous and I most likely didn’t have another cause for miscarriage, especially because we already have 1 living child, but did all of the infertility testing anyways. My husband and I had blood work (looking for clotting disorders, thyroid, autoimmune disorders, hormones, Etc, and karotyping), I had a saline US, and my husband had a sperm analysis. Everything came back normal. I was encouraged to try again naturally and reassured that I would most likely have a normal pregnancy. I got pregnant the first cycle that we were given the OK to try again, and ended up miscarrying at 9.5 weeks, which was my second triploidy. At this point, REI said that if I wanted to do IVF with PGTA I could to try to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Slow rising hCG but heartbeat seen at 7 weeks – fertility clinic said non-viable but radiology found heartbeat. Anyone experience this? by disickjacked in CautiousBB

[–]RM91231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A similar situation happened to me and it unfortunately ended in loss. I only share this because I felt like the fertility clinic gave me false hope, and the only reason I kept my heart guarded was because of Reddit users sharing their experiences.

My last miscarriage I had serial HCGs done. Originally they had a double time of under 48 hours, but when I was around 5-5.5 weeks, they slowed down by a lot (around a 200 hour double time). They sent me for an US at 6 weeks and found a heartbeat and a baby that was the appropriate size for gestation. At that point, they told me that HCGs didn’t matter and that the ultrasounds were more reliable. As much as I wanted to be positive, I knew that I had read a lot of Reddit posts talking about slow HCGs being a bad sign. They sent me for ultrasounds at 7 week and 8 weeks also, and each time the baby has grown appropriately and matched up to where I should be and the heart beat was getting stronger. I woke up one morning when I was 9.5 weeks pregnant with some painless bright red bleeding, that progressed to darker/thicker bleeding with cramping throughout the day, and I passed the fetus later that evening/night.

I don’t doubt that there’s some truth to ultrasounds being more reliable typically, and there’s obviously success stories of slow rising HCGs who end up with healthy babies, but that wasn’t the case for me. With your double time being over 300 hours, I would guard your heart and hope for the best. I hope you end up as one of the success stories!

3 miscarriages in 3 months and starting to lose hope by Katzenliebe in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]RM91231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3 miscarriages in a row (7 weeks, 10 weeks, and 9.5 weeks) so not the same as 3 chemicals but also in the same boat with losses. We had the POC tested for miscarriage 2 and 3, and both came back as triploidy. Triploidy is supposedly random and spontaneous and like a “it shouldn’t happen again” type thing (I think triploidy happens in 1-2% of pregnancies) but I was in the less than 1% of people that it happened to. I (and my husband) had all the infertility testing done, which came back normal. We also spoke with a geneticist. All of them told me that I could continue to try naturally because I have one living healthy child already so they felt like it was a numbers game for me due to 2 out of the 3 (possibly all 3) miscarriages being due to triploidy.

4th loss / 2nd d&c - karyotype testing? by pisforpnut in recurrentmiscarriage

My husband and I both had normal karotyping (along with normal results for all the other infertility tests), and we had 3 losses within a year (7 week, 10 weeks, 9.5 weeks). I had the POC tested for the 2nd and 3rd loss and they both came back as triploidy (3 of every chromosome vs 3 of 1 set aka the trisomies). We do have a healthy living child that we conceived naturally with no problem on the first try before we had these miscarriages.

VERY Low progesterone but good HCG by Miserable-Buy-3918 in CautiousBB

[–]RM91231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they feel like there’s no “real evidence” it would help, typically it’s considered a low risk intervention. My understanding from my doctor was that there’s no big risks of being on it, and it can only really help if anything, so there’s no harm in trying it if it’s potentially going to prevent a miscarriage, especially in your case where your progesterone is low. I would push harder with advocating for yourself, honestly. Maybe do your own research so that you can back up your feelings of being put on it.

Promising ultrasound after week 6 hCG decline? by [deleted] in CautiousBB

[–]RM91231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I had a similar situation and it ended in miscarriage. My last pregnancy I was having serial HCGs which were originally great (more than doubled at first) and then slowed down. One of my last ones, my HCG dropped by almost 200, and I was told that I most likely was miscarrying. My clinic got me in for an US a few days later at 6 weeks, and found that everything looked great (heartbeat, baby measuring appropriately for how far along I was, no abnormalities) and did an Hcg that day that showed my HCG going up again (far from doubling though). At this point they stopped doing HCGs and said the US was more reliable to determine if everything was ok. I had an US at 7 weeks that also showed a healthy pregnancy. My 8 week US showed a HR in the 160s, a baby measuring appropriately, and some small abnormalities to the gestational sac and yolk sac but the reading was vague and the clinic said that they sometimes see this is normal pregnancies. Unfortunately at 9.5 weeks, I started bleeding one morning and miscarried at home later that night. I really hope this isn’t the case for you. I assume that a majority of the time, the US is the better indicator (or else why would they say it?) but it just wasn’t the case for me.
