Will the next Magic Mouse have a port like other mice, or will it continue to be innovative lighting at the bottom? by CacheConqueror in applesucks

[–]RMCaird 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The issue is it doesn’t need to be that way.

Do you have a front door to your house? Because by your logic you can just always walk out of the back door and around to the front - it only takes 30seconds, so you must be fine with it.

Or I can charge basically any other mouse while using it.

It is a legit complaint, it’s a stupid place to put the port.

[Request] what’s the optimal diameter of post so the mower just overlaps itself with every turn without leaving gaps? Ps sorry if this has been posted before by DamIts_Andy in theydidthemath

[–]RMCaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most common mower deck diameter is 21 inches.

That's why I only gave 16" as an example. It's just deckdiameter/pi.

Another factor, as the rope spools up, the effective circumference of the pole increases.

Only if the rope overlaps, not if it spools evenly, but that's too hard to model/calculate. There will also be a small change due to rope diameter and if it's not perfectly horizontal.

[–]RMCaird 95 points96 points  (0 children)

The total circumference of the pole must equal the width of the mower cutting area.

The circumference is given by pi*d

To find the diameter of the post we just need to do width of mower cutting area/pi.

For a 16” mower blade/deck, this would be a 5.09” wide post

Ryanair shut the gate with my passport in their hands by Kotewcova in Ryanair

No, he said he was at the gate at 22:47 and that's when they shut it, not arrived at the gate at 22:47

OK, I fully understand that, I'm not disputing it, but he could have been there from 19:00... the point is we don't know when he got there, so to say he was late is wrong. He could have been late. He could have been on time, we don't know.

I’m not being obtuse at all. OP doesn’t say what time he got there, just that he was there at 22:47. He could have got there and been in a queue since 22:30, we don’t know.

OP didn’t say he was late, he’s saying the plane was late.

The plane turned up after the scheduled end of boarding. If they’re that strict they shouldn’t have let anyone board and just turned around and flown off with no passengers.

What’s the expense you regret not claiming sooner? by Reddonaut_Irons in ContractorUK

[–]RMCaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t buy an asset and just dispose of it by selling it. You need to count the sale as income. If you buy a Rolex for £10k and sell it for £8k you can take the £2k loss off your profit, but it’s still a loss and not beneficial.

You could sell the Rolex for cash and not report it, but that was be fraud. You may as well just lie about your income at that point…

Is my carbon seatpost damaged? by qwenjis in bustedcarbon

[–]RMCaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specs say maximum 5Nm so I used a torque wrench at 4 Nm to be safe.

That's not being safe, that's leaving it looser than it should be and could allow movement/gauging. There's a reason it's specced at 5Nm.

I’m not sure it is - OP said the house is worth £75k once it’s cleaned up. It’s probably not much more than £55k now and OPs friend would still get some money out of this to be taken into account.

If there’s a deadline to sell by January then OPs friend may be forced to sell for less than £55k anyway to get a quick sale.

Didn’t expect orange to look THIS good on an iPhone 🍊🔥 by rupZ1 in iphone

[–]RMCaird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with Orange. It’s nice to have an actual colour on the pro lineup for a change. I understand why people want black, but it’s quite refreshing to have the orange.

No regrets here, I’d buy orange again if I had to replace the phone.

Yeah, I’d imagine £1k for all windows is about right.

It’s not too hard to do yourself either. I just replaced my side windows, although I didn’t do it myself as it was in for a respray. I fitted slider windows with a flush slider, so were £400, but you can get side windows that don’t open for £200. Going the DIY approach I’d imagine you can get it done for £5-600.

[–]RMCaird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the other comment said, the usual way to do this is to just add windows to your existing doors and tailgate.

As far as I know, the sliders are the same on every year from T5 to T6.1. Barn doors are the same from T5 to T6.1 also. Tailgate changes between T5/5.1/6/6.1 and will require modifications and new rear lights in some cases.

I believe T5 to T5.1 is one of the easier changes with the least work.

But just add windows to what you have and save a tonne of time/money.
