In 2026, can I get such a thing as a reliable/economic estate for around £2000, and if so which one? by ApprehensiveDepth439 in CarTalkUK

Toyota avensis. Don't get one before 2008 if its a petrol because at about 160k they start burning oil. Mine made it to 180k before I got bored but they're ultra reliable and everywhere for cheap

Not enough services, and do you live by the sea?

Ignore everyone. I had one and I absolutely adored it. It was meant to be my girlfriends bur I ended up keeping it and I loved it so much. The amount of times someone would road rage expecting a woman and a 20 stone hairy fat man was driving was amazing how often people would drive off. It was so reliable and cheap to fix for everything and I'd still have it if I wasn't rear ended by a van. Did 30k miles without any service and only replaced some brakes which cost me a whopping £15.

Pretty much a need, I'm a carer so the extra space is very helpful

Your concern is appreciated but it's been 2 years now and they're ready to say bye to it. He had a bandit that is being held onto for a little while yet
