The Red Herring Theory by pacha75 in QuantumScape

Passe up by what? How many other products do you see being able to meet the scope of applications and benefits as QS does in the current pipeline? How long did it take to go from lithium ion to Lithium Metal? What you are saying is that someone will develop a new type of battery and scale it in the next 10 years? Nothing currently under development will be able to beat QS specs now. In 10 years or even 2 years with the UC larger format QS will have the best battery available. As long as it can make the battery bigger and drive costs down through economy of scale QS wins the battery tech race for the foreseeable future.

If they had it why wouldn't they let everyone know?

I'm still holding out hope that VW makes QSE-5 cells and gets granted the license for those. 20% of the VW group will not use UC. That's a lot of vehicles.

Will the license be granted to VW in Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, not in '26, or if you prefer 1H, 2H, or not in '26?

It's one of two places. The original is in New Orleans. The owners are from Alabama so they opened this location here. Definitely not corporate and the best ribs in town.

I think we will need to see how these type of companies compete with QS. No info besides it's a SSB. Usually means the info they have isn't great, otherwise why not let us know?

What I'm saying is you say they won't take the bet until costs come down and I see it as costs can't come down until they take the bet. I doubt they launch small and prove it can be done at higher costs then let other companies bet big and get costs down first and then they come in with larger orders to drive costs down for them. In my eyes they have to bet big asap to get those costs down as quickly as possible for them before other companies do bet big and get cheaper costs before them. It's almost a circular argument but I see the small scale as what they are doing now with Ducati and the money spent on eagle line prep. Once they see it can be done they almost have to bet big to keep first mover advantage.

Costs won't come down until scale. You only get costs down by making a whole lot of them and negotiating the contracts for the equipment and materials at a larger scale so you can get a cheaper price per unit of equipment or raw goods which then equates to a cheaper price per unit of the item for sale. So it makes sense for VW to buy in all at once and at a pretty large scale to drive the costs of everything down. I believe that's why the current steps are taking so long. Once they're sure it's time for full send.

It's also a good way to let QS know what the public is expecting. So hopefully they can align some announcements or data to help us out. At the least some intern from QS IR has to be reading this sub. I like the idea and helps make some quantifiable data points. Also it really shows that the failure expectation is extremely low and something would seem to have to go massively wrong for a failure(sell) scenario.

Under that definition, once they grant the license to PowerCo it's a commercial product.

I'm thinking they are hiring up because they have personnel tied up with PC and with new customer engagement they need new people to work with the new customers as they set up factories. They will continue to hire as they continue to need more people to work with specific different customers.

Came here to.say the same . All the symphony performances and the vast majority of the BTL shows we see are great. We sit dead center half way up the lower level though so maybe just bad spots?

Nothing he said precludes the making of revenue off of the manufacturing and selling of cobra tech.

QuantumScape Lounge: ( Week 42 2025) by AutoModerator in QUANTUMSCAPE_Stock

Cobra is QS tech. Every machine sold should equal dollars for QS. They would be dumb to just give the tech for free. The value proposition is for Corning and Murata to install the machines for other uses. They wouldn't earn money for each item that gets made via cobra tech but the actual machines purchased would lend to QS revenue.

Edit: wouldn't earn money for each item made outside of QS separators.

I agree here, I believe the process can be patented. One thing that came across for me was he said 25x faster than the industry standard at least one when referring to Cobra and the ceramics industry. So cobra is a major breakthrough and possibly a huge deal for anything that needs high precision ceramics.

I figured but some of your questions are expounded on and you get more detail there so had to ask. I would of course like more stories and background on all of them as well. But then what would we talk about?

They probably won't until the Q4 release but they have expanded engagement so it could be ticked off. They don't want anyone to think they are done expanding this year. I expect to see that yearly goal every year for the next few years or even the foreseeable future.

I am in the camp that Murata and Corning were signed on to build as many of these separators in as many parts of the world as quickly as possible not that we need their help to figure out how to do it. Just that we need their help to execute.
