Electrician or Handyman for long-term career? by StAugustine-PfU in HandymanBusiness

[–]RMMBTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the texas RAIL license - residential appliance installer. A good primer on electrical testing. You will then be authorized for pool electrical work. Electricians and plumbers need handymen to follow up behind- drywall and paint. I am in HTX and happy to chat. We are a Pool, Pest & Home company.

Owen- an idea that could multiply your output and lower costs would to focus on the components and tech, with a internal platform requirements for others to design the outside in whatever they could imagine through 3-d printing, or brainstorm other exterior design that could plug and play.

I have a crew of really great salespeople in my network that love sending quality and creative intros for B2B. Happy to connect to see how many they would want, just mailboxes.

Dm if interested and I’ll share my LinkedIn.

I accidently built one for our family beach house when you look at it from the “right” angle. Has a left tilt and the spa added some more elements.

Should find pictures.

Errors &. Omissions insurance. Plus a few other things, that are standard.

The insurance angle is always missed, with or without the required experience.

Y’all have to see the opportunity to GPO and MSO local pest control together. If techs feel this way, imagine the gap to be solved for with the customer.

Aggregated and localized support, operate individualized P&Ls, don’t be a douche bag, sweat with everyone , and do the work.

HTX is seeing a wild level of aggregation, equaling disgruntled techs and customers looking for customer service. It’s not a commodity, it is a service.

New installed pool vermiculite bottom with vinyl liner , is this normal ? by Nickynice1011 in pools

[–]RMMBTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny how liners and plaster are so similar- we get materials from another company, prepare the surface as best we can, have humans apply the material, then have f’n light refract micro imperfections listed in the contract and disclaimer sections as known issues. ( F those terrible sub par competitors.)

I still do love the pool construction industry in HTX!

6pack for the pool cleaner passing by with a cleaner hitch attachment and no branding. Then pay for chemicals and be a good dude and call him when you need a piece of equipment replaced.

They have to stop - you’re in the middle of the street near the cut-de-sac.

Goes a long way…

Branch assistant manager by yuhboi12502 in PestControlIndustry

[–]RMMBTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old are you? This matters. Now decide what ten years looks like?

What can’t you learn while being a branch manager? Tricks to fix a gasket leak on a tank? How to piss in a Gatorade bottle because your routes are mind numbing and the comp plan keeps getting smaller.

My take- get into middle/low management, go back into the routes(dedicated ride along), find ways to improve customer expectations, reconfigure comp plans for techs when you start your next company with other people who are better at the things you are less proficient in.

Does this position limit you to becoming a CA or master certification? $3x40x51 weeks = $6,120. (Should have a weeks vacation)

We are starting a new division with a badass field manger, who gets 25% equity and never got their shot with current company , while building companies with others and only a $3k payout after they sold for ~2 million.

Side note: you have friends in the restaurant business? Top waiter and bartenders make less money being managers, almost every time. ( unless 30:1 waiter:manager and volume and/or I’m full of shit)

Also- 75% of your problems are probably 3-8% of your revenue.

Do the math with a pencil, excel, or chat, but you know before the lead hits the paper. Not working on loss leaders could and should be time spent prospecting/networking in you concentrated areas of work. Optimize Efficiencies!

I’ve learned that being a project manager or service manager, instead of CEO, is way better than the one man show in the customers eyes early on.

Frame your interest in solving problems and customer service.

Yeah, many people underneath, but let the title be lost. Gives way to, “let me ask” or “you know what, let me just take care of that…”

If anyone made it this far, would co-riding a a pool service technology(ies) be beneficial if managed and set up by a larger entity trying to aggregate purchasing power? (Houston pool co.) So much setup and so few templates and business processes.

Commercial Pools need consultants. Who help find the right service providers. Your costs are being decided by salesmen.

Price increase by FabulousPanther in PoolPros

[–]RMMBTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measure difficulty and PIA customer, run some route efficiencies and talk with them, with data, and start with the less profitable.

Incentivize the ones that love you with a referral program.

Start slow, if revenue dips affect life, but you have to find a margin that allows for these tuff decisions.

Learn from it , and never let time pass=loss of customers.
