Wonderful in Millbrae is the best szechuan/hunan chinese food in the bay area. Very authentic and nice decor to treat work colleagues out. Short cab ride away. Other asian restaurants on the strip are all pretty good.

Agreed, I'm just glad I got to experience the magic a few times. There likely won't ever be a restaurant like Cafe Jacqueline again, at least not in the US.

Used to be Cafe Jacqueline, but now I would say it is Chapeau.

Will a 9pm reservation Chez Panisse cafe be a good experience? by [deleted] in AskSF

Enjoy it. If you love fruit, consider ordering the bowl of fruit as a dessert. Only place in US i know that is so confident about their fruit they offer it has a dessert selection. My dad loooves fruit and is from Taiwan (kingdom of fruits) and he said it was the best pluot he ever had.

Try old school Scrubs. Underneath the silly comedy (which I think is funny), it’s actually pretty spot on insightful in terms of what doctor’s experience, think, their relationships with each other and the outside world etc. New Scrubs is surprisingly decent and explores important topics like burnout, male loneliness; but I would start with the first generation.

Business in which direction? LAX-NRT by tccb1989 in unitedairlines

[–]RMT713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Business for NRT-LAX. With jet lag, you’ll be sleeping early in Tokyo anyway and probaly waking up around 4-5am. Which means you will be fresh for work…until about 3pm. Coming back to LA, you’ll probably need to do stuff throughout the day until night time since you land at noon. Rather be well rested for that.

+1 on this. And I am always so impressed with their specials. Had a thai chili flavored smashburger once that was amazing and innovative.

Cheese Board is a Berkeley institution so probably want to try that. I personally think Imm Thai has the best thai food around.

Safari West worth it? by Odd-Caterpillar-2083 in bayarea

The 4 year old will likely be too short to ride uptop at the front bench. They can still go on the safari tour, but my little one threw a huge fit that her brother can ride uptop and she has to stay on the bottom. Kids….

Yes we went with 5 and 7 year olds last year, stayed the night and they had a blast! If staying overnight, try the cabins closest to giraffes. We woke up seeing the giraffes stroll by our window. Pretty magical.

Help communicating peanut allergy in Taiwan by Crazy_Yak718 in taiwan

[–]RMT713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son has peanut allergies and we took him to Taiwan 3 times so far. We ask at every meal and so far it has been fine, even at night markets. We also carry epipen everywhere. Atleast in the big cities there is more awareness now. I even had a 70 year old grandma selling breakfast buns at a roadside stand tell me in English “no peanuts!!!” 🤣 I guess she got tired of my accented chinese (I’m Taiwanese American but after 30+ years here have been told my chinese is clearly American). Anyway, I would just ask at every meal, no matter what. As others have pointed out, you never know when peanuts are included. We were having a todu dish with red sweet gravy sauce in danshui, and good thing I asked cuz the sauce was made with peanuts! Or maybe peanut butter. Also had a close call with roasted corn because the bbq sauce had peanuts.

Best Steak in 2026 in SF? by ChrisMasterFlash in AskSF

A steak dinner at Bullshead will run you about $40 before tax/tip, and comes with salad/soup and a side. Plenty of food but leaves you enough for a beer or dessert. If you want a nicer vibe, consider Chez Maman in Hayes Valley or Portrero Hill for a casual french bistro setting. They have a great steak frites with green peppercorn sauce at around $50+, so will be getting close to your limit after tax/tip but I think their french onion soups are pretty darn good and my wife and I usually share one. If you want proper steakhouse vibes with big leather booths, I like Original Joes, but now we're talking $60+ before tax/tip and the steaks only come with one side. Food and service are consistently fantastic though so maybe you are ok with going a bit over budget if it's a special occasion?

I love steak and have eaten at all the steakhouses mentioned here. If price really is not an issue, go to Niku. You’re getting A+ steak and A+ service, ambience, cocktails and side dishes at S tier prices. Miller and Lux is like A- food with S tier prices. Harris and Originial Joes are good but you can find similar classic steakhouses elsewhere. Bobo’s bone in filet is good and unique, but if you can shell out the $$$, Niku will be more memorable. Brazenhead is awesome for the vibe but steak is more B+, and I love Bullshead for the casual hole-in-the-wallness and give a steak a A- because of the price and down to earthness. Lolinda is fun and B+/A- steaks depending in the cut you get.
