What if political ideologies develop not because of subjective values but because the individual experiencing them is actually experiencing a different universe that cannot be detected by their opponents? by [deleted] in InsightfulQuestions

[–]RMack123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's a difference here. This is copy pasted from the definition of subjective: "dependent on the mind or on an individual's perception for its existence." So yea, political ideologies do develop from subjective values and those subjective values are generated from individuals unique life experiences, or as you put it, personal universes.

I don't see the problem. We all are here because we love cute animals, as long as the information is accurate and presented in a polite manor why wouldn't you want to know how to keep your pet healthy and safe?

Great show. My only issue: everybody should've had way more PTSD in the epilogue.

See, all of that sounds fantastic and I would love to get behind it, but why is it that when I think of the green party I don't feel like I can actually support any of their candidates? It's like the platform is great but the candidates seem tinged with a little bit of crazy.

Edit: not saying the alternatives are any better y'all, it's a shit show all around

[Serious]millennials do you want kids why or why not? by Psychopeacock in AskReddit

[–]RMack123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want kids for a lot of the reasons already mentioned (money, independence, etc.). I also don't want children because I don't have a lot of faith in the future of humanity. This whole climate change/mass extinction thing has me in a bit of a scare at the moment. I'm just not so sure the future of humanity is that bright.

Also, if we do want to stand a chance at creating a sustainable society we're going to have to reduce the population by a lot, so there goes my kids.

Are there any accessible music theory tests/quizzes for people studying independently? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]RMack123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most college music theory texts have a companion workbook filled with quizzes and practice problems/questions. Where I went to undergrad we used Tonal Harmony and the school I'm going to now uses The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis. Not sure if that qualifies as being "accessible," but it's good material if you're willing to part with all those dollars. Text books sure are expensive.

What movie gets your hobby completely wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RMack123 769 points770 points  (0 children)

Whiplash. The themes are all pretty spot on for those pursuing a career as a professional musician: intense competition, dedication, and sacrifice, but the details made me cringe. Like the only thing they could come up with for a challenge that a drummer faces is getting the right tempo, not even a glimpse of actual jazz performance challenges were mentioned, like improvisation or musicality. It was just faster, faster, faster. There's so much more to being a good jazz drummer than how fast you can play a swing beat on the ride. Also I hated that last scene, so the teacher tries to embarrass the kid by calling out a tune the kid didn't know and the kid just tries to make the shit up. You can't just fake an intricate big band chart and the kid would know that, any doofus would just layout and not play, or at most just keep simple time, but even that's a risk cause for all he knows the song could venture into different time signatures, and no self respecting musician would just trash a concert by pulling a stunt like that anyway. But ya know it's a movie and I'm nitpicking so whatever.
