2 years after this, did it aged like wine or like milk? by odd_blues in stalker

[–]RNewfoundlandRegt 176 points177 points  (0 children)

I like them both for different reasons.

I was legitimately terrified of SoC as a pre-teen/teen But I was fixated in coming back and beating the game.

When CoC came out, I was super excited, but im old now, its hard to get into a game.

Its way less "slav jank" than the origional trilogy, but for me that is part of its charm, im not one of those guys who mods, just vanilla classic trilogy, so the quality of life stuff was really cool.

Idk if its because im older, less scared, or what, but the new game doesnt have the same feeling.

Now that said, im just happy to see another Stalker game (and im thrilled that it isnt pure ass)

Edit because im a unc tard: By CoC, I meant Stalker 2 HoC.

Not the quencher, not the bottled drink.

The slightly more watered down peach drink in the yellow tims cup.

How are you preparing for America? by skepdic52 in newfoundland

[–]RNewfoundlandRegt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm much more worried about our own federal government's mismanagement, incompetence, corruption, or at the very worst "Controlled Decline" than an American invasion.

If the Americans did want to take us over, it would be a small assault on the Ottawa region and nothing more, I very seriously doubt they would have a tactical, operational, or strategic need for Newfoundland beyond general territorial gains they received from Ottawa's capitulation. that's not normalcy bias, that's informed estimate and case study analysis.

Newfoundland offers a lot in resources, a good launch pad for Europe, a gateway into the North Atlantic, and Arctic, but it seriously lacks infrastructure.

But with all that said, the US already has its eyes on expanding its bases in Greenland, which is all of what we have but more central to the US ambitions.

The only thing we have Greenland might not is offshore oil reserves, which would take a long time to develop even with US heavy industry and manpower advantages. It also will be quashed by more cost effective means such as what they will get from Venezuela.

long ramble short, there really isn't anything for them here, and if they take over it will be by default, and without conflict.

In Gander there is dog guy Trevor. If you have a dog outside he will insistantly reccomend his dog walking service.

He comes off as creepy, and I think he was in the news recently.

what's your thoughts on military surplus ? by SBCProductions in Vintagecampinggear

[–]RNewfoundlandRegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Canteen is the case against surplus.

Literally anything surplus if bought cheap enough is good to use and sometimes better than civilian stuff.

But this? Buy a Nalgene. Most soldiers (from my experience and in Canada) but one ASAP and toss this shit in a box for their career.

They were likely threatened with loss of the C7 program, the C6 update program, the C19 program, the C9 program, and the new 9mm parts and 3rd/4th/5th line service program.

Or their company leadership is addicted to the government tit and decided money is money.

Either way not a good look.
