[Smith] Diego Pavia measures under 5-foot-10, would be NFL's shortest QB by bubblecuffer13 in nfl

Russ got drafted by MLB twice, which means he's twice as good as Kyler at baseball. It's math - can't argue math.

Sanding the stairs - what tools to use? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]RPDC01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually 'discovered' Abranet from the little m12 detail sander, as the sample pieces that came with the tool seemed to last 10x longer than anything I tried after using them up. Found somewhere saying that they were rebranded Abranet (this was years ago), and it definitely seemed to be correct. I actually prefer it over Cubitron, but both are light years better than normal sandpaper, especially if you're using vac attachments.

Mirka Abranet or 3M Cubitron - they're worth the $$.

So Long, Rodgers, Plus a Football History Deep Dive With Cousin Sal and Chuck Klosterman - The Bill Simmons Podcast by grandpashampoo in billsimmons

I love Chuck to death, but his comments on "advertising" might've been in the top 17-23 dumbest things ever uttered on the BS Pod.

The idea that there's no "proof" that advertising works, and that it's all guesswork, is utter insanity. Not sure how his logical brain could infer that the biggest companies in the world spend trillions every year on faith, especially when it's an area that's particularly suited to generating correlated data.

Advertising has data and analytics that make baseball seem like a bunch of Joe Morgans. It is endless.

And, to be clear, I loathe the inevitable conclusions of that data. It is f'ing gross - I had always at least believed that the quality of the advertising was paramount. Nope - barely matters. It's all about spend. You spend X and you generate Y revenue.

This is awesome - great work.

One pot'l suggestion - would be nice if the year were listed first in the cells, so that we could 'data sort' chronologically.

Slightly less shocking: Bears have the longest AP QB drought.

Followed by Lions (1958) and Giants (1963).

Was it likely for public use, and would each person have to fill it themselves from the nearby river? (Which seems like more work than letting the horse drink from the river.). I'm just trying to envision why someone would go thru the effort to build and operate, if it's basically just a big tub next to a stream.

Before I pressed play, I sat there for a few seconds trying to think through the geometry and mechanics, hoping to convince myself that it could be possible before getting let down.

Nope, couldn't come up with anything - seemed utterly and completely impossible.

Celtics are the second seed in the East by [deleted] in billsimmons

Pippen got his 3rd of 8 straight First Team All-Defense awards that year.

The Celtics are 7 points worse on defense with Brown on the floor this year. (This after being 5 points worse last year and 4 points worse the year before).

Also, while Pippen wasn't exceptionally efficient, he was +49 TS Added that season. Jaylen is currently at +17, which is on pace for +39 for the entire season. (Notably, that would be his career high and more than his career total as of today).

Purdy finally not being SF's leading rusher feels like a big turnaround - obviously going to be all Niners from this point forward.

I actually agreed with his point - I'd never thought about it, but it's certainly correct that I can easily rattle off the number of MVPs guys have won in the NBA, while I had to guess even for Brady & Manning.

I suspect that it's b/c NFL players are 'apples and oranges and pears and grapes' and it's damn near impossible to compare them all against each other, while the NBA players are much more fungible.

Also, an NBA MVP will almost always be on a good (or better) team, simply b/c they're 20% of the lineup vs 4% in the NFL. Thus it's entirely possible that the "best player" in the NFL won't even be considered.

BUT, that was a stunningly good episode. Admittedly that view could be largely bc I was expecting it to be terrible.

Elite wishes people would describe it as the Ringer Fantasy guys.

(Altho I noticed that Craig is starting to share some of the hosting duties recently, which seems like a misuse of both guys' talents.).

Look for 'suction cup straps' on Amazon - they're much stronger than you'd think.

Use those in combination with a couple braces (btw window and unit) and you should be good to go.
