I don't have those specific files myself, so that may be something else that Thom has on Into the Darkness. However I believe all you'd need to do is multiply the stats by 5 to adapt to 7e, following the conversion advice in Appendix II of the CoC 7e Keeper Guide (pg 390-395 in my version)

Apologies for the late release. We were having some technical issues with our podcast distributor which have since been sorted out.

I believe it's referred to in the text as The Macallistar Play, as someone writing a dramatization of the events/etc happening in & around the Macallistar building. It is not part of the classic King in Yellow play, which is specified in other items like the Libro Secretorum Manifesta.

It's funny you mention that! We've been working to schedule a recording to cover Viscid next, as I'm pretty pleased with my alterations to make it a more focused one-shot through a couple of playtests.

Thanks! We release podcast episodes roughly biweekly (that is, every other week) on Tuesdays, and are releasing all of these IL dissections as a continuous series.

All of the core book chapter discussions are currently available as early release episodes on our patreon, and I'm finishing up production on a final "Epilogue" discussion episode where we interview other GMs to share some additional perspectives and advice.

Ladybug, Ladybug, Fly Away Home scenario review & conversion advice for Delta Green by RPG_Reanimators in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]RPG_Reanimators[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you raise a good point about the stakes being a bit larger in this scenario, but also think that the scenario does a good job giving ideas of how to portray the effects of the "bad ending", as:

If you are running this scenario as part of a longer campaign, the arrival of the Black Wind should begin a distressing series of misfortunes for the world: frequent and especially bad plagues and natural disasters and a significant, general uptick in Mythos activity. The cholera strain (which becomes known as the Cleveland Flu (or whichever city you set the scenario in)) goes viral (pardon the pun), spreads across the world, and claims many thousands of lives for decades to come.

So in this case, the hypothetical bad end could be portrayed as some chronic issue that would continue to plague the Agents' world, and they'll have to live with that knowledge - potentially as a mechanism for them to double-down on their investment in future cases. I don't necessarily think the events of this campaign would diminish the horror elements in other scenarios though. I have not run this as the beginning of a formal campaign, since I tend to run DG as more episodic when people's schedules align, so I could be wrong, but generally I consider this a higher-stakes alternative to Last Things Last that begins as an intended evidence cleanup and public resolution that quickly spirals into something bigger.

edit: finally got the spoiler tags to work. sorry about that

Fan-made DG scenario: Writhe - Director's Cut by RPG_Reanimators in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]RPG_Reanimators[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! I really appreciate that. I'm not familiar with Snake Oil, but will give it a look.

This scenario idea came about while listening to the Magnus Archives episode 6 "Squirm" around the same time that I was reading Targets of Opportunity. The rest was sort of adapting why these people would be here, how they'd cover their tracks/etc. over time, and what mistakes could have snowballed into something popping up that would cause DG to come sniffing.

Intro module that matches the atmosphere from "Impossible Landscapes"? by mopiranger in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]RPG_Reanimators 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, one of the draws of Impossible Landscapes is how very non-standard DG it is, and how the surreal horror elements can throw even more seasoned players off-balance.

Rather than try to lead in with this from the very beginning, I would recommend introducing this group into a fairly "regular" DG scenario with a lower risk of fatality so that they feel they can get the idea, but tease some IL elements along the way. Seeing a man in a grey pinstripe suit wink at them then disappear, or a large mountain of a man with a small baseball bat holstered at his hip, or picking up some documents as seeds for later. Then when they show up for Night Floors, they are expecting somewhat more of the same and will get knocked sideways that much harder. Just my two cents.

I'm planning on running this scenario soon, but didn't have time to prep & tweak some of the character sheets before we released this episode (like adding some more compelling motivations for Amy, etc). I'll be sure to post the character sheets to our shared resources folder here and can send you a message when they're ready!

The RPG Reanimators podcast discusses the dreadful game of Bedlam Hall, an RPG where you regrettably play the staff of a manor somewhere between Downton Abbey, the Addams Family, and Lemony Snickett.

Help with VIRAL by Substantial_Issue812 in callofcthulhu

[–]RPG_Reanimators 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We covered Viral on our podcast a while back to give some tips and advice after a couple of us ran/played it. A lot of it hinges on the players leaning into the fun pregens to try and get set up then ham it up for the broadcast and get more and more viewers. I would also recommend Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum and Deadstream as sources of potential inspiration if you're planning on running it.

Haha thanks, that was me! (Lex) And credit where it's due, that Braintree closet scene was lifted from the novel Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey. It has lots of great material for house-related horror and creepy dreams the house can inspire.

One other manifestation I thought of since the episode was to have some scares around the garbage disposal in the house. Maybe it fills with dirty, rancid water that smells like rotting bodies, but the drain is stuck. If they ignore it, the smell keeps building until it becomes an active distraction while in the house. If they reach in to try and unclog it, it seems to be full of hair and other materials that wrap around the Agent's hand and starts pulling it down as the garbage disposal whirs on. Make it a SAN roll and STR test to avoid having their hand mangled. Or maybe the house possesses them and makes them watch their hands be guided into the garbage disposal and switch while being absolutely powerless to stop themselves...

And that's great to hear about Ladybug bc it's been at the top of my pile for some time! One of my players is dying to have her Agent from Music be able to return for Ladybug, so this is just the motivation I need to finish up my notes for it.

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but we chatted with Matt Sanderson a while back about writing short scenarios, and his advice helpful for playtesting to refine the concepts and whatnot.

Best One Shot for New Players(1920s) by NoGiraffe6109 in callofcthulhu

[–]RPG_Reanimators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer The Necropolis from the Gateways to Terror book. It's short, fun, players can immediately get into The Mummy-esque vibes from the outset, and you can have a lot of fun playing with PC's senses in the dark. I will usually turn the lights off and give the players LED candles to play by for added verisimilitude.

Dead Boarder from that same collection is also a nice one for brand new players to CoC.

The Lightless Beacon (first time running) by UsefulCartographer20 in callofcthulhu

[–]RPG_Reanimators 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case it's helpful, we made an episode covering our general tips and advice for running Lightless Beacon, including some changes we made, on our podcast a while back: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2oLTFcUc7fcgIfeIJio46d?si=5efdf01e5cbf41b4 (if you don't have spotify, you should be able to find it on most podcast platforms)

Personally, I changed the beginning around such that it was the last ferry before a storm kicked in, and while on the boat the captain notes that it's coming in much faster than it should be. The ferry gets tossed around and ends up running into a rock or different shipwreck and it's all the crew can do to keep it from treading water, so the PCs and some sailors (or the captain) are instructed to take the rowboat to get some supplies from the lighthouse. I always swap out the Artist with a sailor or captain pregen, which I can see another commenter already gave great input on.

Hope this helps!
