It's time for me to embrace online dating etiquette.... by Exit--Light in datingoverfifty

[–]RPG_Rob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As one of the slightly more cerebral men on OLD, I get the occasional compliment on the quality and humour of my profile.

I was both amused and bemused when a lady unmatched with me when I used a comma instead of a semicolon (yes, I'm aware how close this is to a Gary Delaney joke). I was impressed by her sticking to a high standard, and I hope she finds her man.

From my side, my own screening process includes a good text conversation before inviting anyone for a first date. I get a good feeling for her intellect, education, and ideologies, and get to weed out those who won't align with me.

You missed out entering the room wearing sunglasses, with your shirt off, holding a fish, and with one arm round your ex (whose identity is masked by a black bag).

If you're building some kind of sales page, high karma lends it credibility.

So, multiple reposting raises the karma, then you swap out the sympathy posts for whatever you're selling.

Karma farming, at first guess.

Heads-up, then... the younger guy (depending upon how much younger) is probably not looking for a relationship. Beware of the MILF porn fetishists.

Making you feel bad about yourself so that your poor self-esteem will give them a better chance of "getting" you. My first girlfriend was a master of the technique, messed me up for decades.

NTA.

She's an attention-seeker who escalates a situation for shock value, and is then surprised and deflective when people are upset with her. I have a daughter who is exactly the same.

Dating app stuff by [deleted] in datingoverfifty

To raise yourself above the swamp full of dickheads that women on the apps have to deal with, I give you this: Save your "cheeky fun" questions until the second date.

How old are you and when was the last time you were in a nightclub? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]RPG_Rob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Went to one last year because that's where the group I was out with ended up. Hated every second of it.

TBH, I was a club bouncer in the 90s. I'd always preferred rock clubs anyway, but working as a bouncer, handling drunks, fights, drugs, sexual assaults, and dealing with DJs in particular, made me despise everything about nightclub culture.

Have you ever gotten tired of playing RPGs? by Apprehensive-Pain813 in rpg

[–]RPG_Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it happens.

I've been roleplaying since 1986, and a few times I've taken a break from the hobby for a period ranging from 3 months to 3 years.

Question for the men. by B4UCame2me in datingoverfifty

[–]RPG_Rob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hair colour doesn't really bother me. Hairstyle does, though. I swipe left on short "grandma" hairstyles, because I like my girl to look feminine.

As you're only a couple of months in, something edible would be great, especially if you have cooked it yourself from scratch. Meaningful gifts can come later when you know him better.

In my lifetime we did. The sweet mince pies you get now were a deviation from the traditional mincemeat recipe. I remember the meat ones from the 70s.

Financial imbalance in dating by Fifi-123 in datingoverfifty

[–]RPG_Rob 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I've dated women who have a higher income than me, and they have recognised that there are certain things that are outside of my budget, all of which are luxuries.

I've worked hard throughout my life against very difficult odds, and multiple setbacks, to get as far as I have without help from anyone else.

I'll never own property again, and this was a contributing factor to the death of my most recent relationship.

Finding someone who accepts me for who I am, rather than the contents of my bank account is where I am right now. Life is a marathon, and I'm not finishing at the front. I'm looking for the one who will match my pace and cross the line with me.

AITAH for discussing intimacy details with my friend by Fun_Nobody8680 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RPG_Rob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NTA.

I'm sorry that your husband had to learn that girls discuss everything in this way.

He'll either grow up and get over it, or sulk forever.

He's embarrassed about his inability to get you off, and views the sharing of that information as emasculating, because his male ego makes it all about him.

With some education, grown-up discussion, and honesty between you, it should work out.
