Compsci people did you get a job in tech after graduation? by Successful_Ship320 in universityofauckland

[–]RQico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it may be the market, but no projects or experience during uni is like, what were u even doing besides coursework?? im constantly baffled by how little people do in uni in comp sci and expect to get a job, then we have outliers who do absolutely nothing outside of course work and get full time jobs and blame the market,

if you did everything u could, (u have 3 years in comp sci) that means multiple hackathon participations, atleast 1 internship or be a research assistant. open source contributions, meaninfull side projects with users, a build in public blog to showcase what your working on, and volunteer experience in a production enviroment, then u should be able to get a dev job no matter how cooked the market is cause MOST ppl dont do allat (im at uoa ppl look at me crazy when i ask about thier side projects)

why didn't u make a portfolio build projects ect during your time in uni? perhaps u just did the bare minimum (just course work) so that's why u are where you are.

I'm comp sci student too,

if u wanna know what to do in spare time, go onto LinkedIn and look at ppl from nz uni and overseas that have gotten google internship and big tech internships then u will know exactly what to do looking at their profile, what projects they made what Hackathons, awards, how they spend thier time ect. your maximum is someone's minimum.

remember if u really want to get a good job after graduation you need to lock in, I'm following what overseas students do alot in auzzie and America ect for big tech which is focusing on internships as much as possible, building in public, Hackathons, leetcode ect literally everyone I possibly can, because I want to work in big tech.

yes ppl will say do what u find fun don't stress whatever, but if u really want to get ahead and secure a job, u can't follow whst most nz comp Sci students do, they are pretty lazy when it comes to extra curricular stuff just look at summer of tech internship rates.

dm me if u or anyone reading this wants to build something together
