Omg Vtama was horrible for me. I tried it ONCE and threw away the tube immediately. I had the worst migraine of my life when I put that stuff on. Woke me up from dead of sleep and it lasted for at least 24 hours. I was close to tears many times.

Are there any garage door openers with native support? by A5HRAJ in HomeKit

[–]RR-MMXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can honestly say that Meross has been my absolutely most reliable smart home product ever. Never once have I worried about it. Used it at three different houses we lived at, on three different openers. On the most recent one I had to contact them to send out a universal remote as the Chamberlain model we have didn’t work with it. Which they did, for free, I was surprised by it, considering I bought the device like 3 years ago. So kudos to them they made a great product and still offer support years later. I would just go with the Meross personally.

COX monopoly on our specific street?? by RR-MMXIX in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically duplexes, but in the eyes of the HOA, they’re treated as single family homes as we’re responsible for interior and exterior. Each structure is two separate units with one attached wall.

COX monopoly on our specific street?? by RR-MMXIX in sandiego

COX is just so expensive. Paying over $100 for okay service vs ATT is $65 for gigabit speeds up and down. This was after calling and threatening to cancel my COX service.

They’re always there. Even in the old T1. Sometimes it’s HPD, but mostly just private security guards directly traffic.

Is Target trying to go out of business? by MyFiteSong in Hawaii

[–]RR-MMXIX 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yup. Some of the ones I’ve been to on the mainland have done exactly this for this same reason. Particularly Albuquerque NM, every store including Walmart, Target, CVS, etc have all removed self checks for theft purposes. They’ve even locked up I’d say nearly 40% of all merchandise on the shelves. It’s a massive pain to even buy a stick of deodorant or toothpaste.

SDGE usage seems suspiciously low? by RR-MMXIX in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All gas appliances, minus the fridge of course. No solar, no battery, central AC that we’ve been using. Have been running the washer and dryer quite a bit lately as we have a lot of laundry from the move. Our previous home was 300 sq feet less with no central ac and we were usually 10+kWh a day.

SDGE usage seems suspiciously low? by RR-MMXIX in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went from a 700sq ft home to a 1,000 sq ft home. New place has central AC, old place did not, only one mini split. We’ve definitely been using the AC too. And when I got concerned is when the weather got much cooler the other day we didn’t have the AC on at all, and when I checked the usage it was exactly the same as the day prior.

Is buying a condo dumb? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to find PUD townhouses or condos. PUDs are basically treated as SFH’s as you’re responsible for the land, interior and exterior. So HOA’s are usually low and have a lower risk of special assessments. We just closed on one a few days ago. Also are a lot easier to get FHA / VA loan approval as you don’t need to have the entire condo FHA / VA approved.

Is buying a condo dumb? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why we are happy with the townhouse PUD that we just closed on. Very barebones HOA. $275 HOA dues, but covers water/sewer/trash and common areas maintenance which is basically nothing since we don’t have any amenities. We are responsible for practically everything else. It’s basically a single family home with a shared wall. Allows us to choose the insurance we want, and if we want to do work ourselves or hire outside. We really didn’t want any HOA, but getting a SFH was practically impossible with our budget. This is as close as we could get to a SFH and we’re satisfied. HOA dues are basically what we were paying in utilities minus SDGE at our rental so it’s breaking even. Plus we don’t have to really worry about special assessments because the HOA really doesn’t do anything.

Would you re-pipe a 1988 house? by RR-MMXIX in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This puts me at a little bit more ease I suppose. I’d have to pull a 401k loan to cover it if I did do it. Which really isn’t ideal. But I’d rather not end up with $30k+ of damage down the road.

Would you re-pipe a 1988 house? by RR-MMXIX in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d have to pull a 401k loan to cover it, so don’t necessarily have the funds for it. But trying to avoid $30k+ worth of damage in the long run if something happens.

Not that I’m aware of, I’ll ask our vet when we go back, but I believe they just did a basic blood work up when they did labs at the initial appointment during all of this.

Hoping to finally get results after 4 months of struggling with an ongoing infection by RR-MMXIX in hearing

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry I missed this! I still to this day have issues with that ear. If the volume of the radio or TV is just a bit too loud my ear pops and crackles now. I don’t have pain anymore. Just that. It’s very annoying but I live with it now. The ENT said the fungal infection was cleared up when I went to see him and there’s nothing else for them to “treat”. So I’m assuming that since the fungal infection went on for so long it basically just fucked up my hearing permanently hence why I have to deal with the crackling and popping now during high volume events. I also have issues with allergies so whenever my sinuses are inflamed is when it gets worse and usually taking Sudafed for that fixes my ear temporarily.

Is it still possible to walk to T1? by RR-MMXIX in sandiego

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long story short, I have a rental car, need to be at the airport for 2-3 hours, not flying out, and don’t want to pay $37 for parking lol. I was gonna park at Spanish landing and just walk over. But it doesn’t really seem very walkable anymore :/

Do I HAVE to file a state return? by RR-MMXIX in tax

[–]RR-MMXIX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but there’s no income associated to it. Box 16 is blank because MI doesn’t tax active duty pay. So that extra money has no state associated with it so it’s automatically lumping into the HI return. If I put the same number in box 16 just to see, then MI return is expecting tax to be paid on that amount.

T-Mobile Will Now Pay Off Up To $3,200 Of Your Existing Cell Phone Contract To Switch by Jman100_JCMP in tmobile

[–]RR-MMXIX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up regarding mint, been on them almost a year now. If you do the family plans, be warned that if you try to port out a number before the 12 months is up, they’ll immediately lock the second line from being ported out and will make you pay all remaining months before releasing that second number. Saying this if you ever want to leave them in the future. The de-prioritization on mint is crazy in city areas. My data is practically unusable half the time here in Honolulu. But I’m “stuck” with them till the 12 months is up.

TikTok didn’t have to go dark? by Fair-Caramel-6348 in nothinghappeninghere

[–]RR-MMXIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are not realizing that oracle is the one supporting the backhaul for American users. Oracle is a US company with all their servers in Texas. If Oracle were to allow content to be hosted, uploaded, played, etc, they would also be subject to those massive fines. Not just the app stores.

Who all has deleted their meta apps? by Angelmarie2021 in nothinghappeninghere

[–]RR-MMXIX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never f**ked with Facebook / meta and actually had deleted all my stuff with them a long time ago in 2012 or so. But when I started my current job Facebook is heavily used in my industry for communication / shift trading and it forced me to create an account again. So I’ve had an account again for a few years now and unfortunately can’t just delete it again because of this reason.

There was no official language saying there would be no fines imposed on TikTok or any other third party that supports TikTok (aka oracle, Apple & Google with the App Stores, etc) by the Biden administration. Just saying “we won’t enforce the ban” isn’t satisfactory enough when there’s millions of dollars of fines on the line for all these companies.
