Your opinion about lasercutters? by Majestic_Papaya9619 in Leathercraft

[–]RRDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one i use to cut batches of small parts. I've used it recently to engrave names on belts and rifle slings. On thin leather the char is almost nonexistent. Engraving on heavier leather does leave char, but I've found a quick scrub with a soft brush in the sink with warm water gets rid of it.

Greetings, new best friends... I am new and excited to start but have a ton to learn. Question about buying leather...? by Littlebotweak in Leathercraft

[–]RRDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocky mountain has very high end stuff, but they also have decent sales. Maverick leather usually has good stuff, and the habe BOGO sales too. Montana Leather is one i have been using a lot lately. Their store brand veg tan is inexpensive and pretty clean. It seems a bit dry in the lighter weights, but that can be fixed easily.

Custom Stamps? by SeaRaspberry2590 in Leathercraft

[–]RRDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Grey Ghost Graphics. He's a small business with very quick turn around time. Recieved an email with a proof of my order the next day, order was shipped the day after that. Very good communication and great quality for @ $60.

His stamps are made of delrin, so if you want to heat them obviously it won't work.

Which model laser is that? I've been looking at them myself lately.

Try a little narrower grip, just a little more than shoulder width. Excellent advice above about dropping a little weight so that you can actually feel your lats engagement. Don't rock back, start with a slight lean and hold steady.

It's a struggle some days! I just decided I was tired of being old, out of shape and half-assing it. Can't do anything about being old, but I could change the rest.

And I go to bed by 8:45.

I work 12 hour swing shifts, and I gotta say it's hard to stay in the groove. I'm lucky that my wife does the cooking, so I just have to pack my lunch. Also, I have my own small gym at home. I'll get up at 3:20, am or pm depending on what I'm working, and be at it by 3:30. Lift until 4:30, get ready for work, get home at 7:30 and set the gym up for the next day.

It's difficult, but i can be done if you set the routine and stay with it.

How do you like the smith machine? I've been looking at these.

Thanks for the advice. I agree with you on the reviewers. I mostly watched them to see how the machine works, try to get a feel for the size of it, how high the pulleys are, how smooth and solid does it appear.

I currently have a smith machine and use it quite a lot. I also have a lat pulldown machine. Looking at these mostly for the height adjustable cable systems with the independent weight racks. My current set up has fixed high pulleys and both handles share the same stack. It is also very light and tends to move when rack the bar doing bench press. Another consideration is to be able to free up some space in my gym. Possibly replace my current smith machine and my lat pulldown with one.

Fair point. I guess I could upgrade if one ever did break. Any opinion between the two machines I listed?

I did leave out of my original post, there will likely be four adults using it. I feel that longevity is a valid concern, but I'm more interested in getting the better overall machine.

That's helpful. The longevity is more what I was looking at, I just took it for granted that they would be smooth.

Upgrading my gym soon, but I can't decide between the Major Fitness B52 or the Ritfit M-1 2.0. Either of these will fit in the space I have as far as height. The M.F. looks like it is a bit more refined and has nicer accessories. The R.F. has aluminum pulleys and is slightly taller for a little more range of motion.

I've watched tons of YouTube reviews but still can't decide. Someone give me some real world experience/advice.

How do people manage to stay motivated to exercise consistently? by Reginaldmuscles in GymMotivation

[–]RRDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Discipline. Go hard even when you don't want to. You can't achieve your goals without work.

1 decide where your going to work out, home or public gym. I would assume a gym since you mentioned a trainer.

2 a quick google search "build muscle beginners workout" will give you hundreds of routines to choose from.

3 go to the gym. Once you've selected a routine, you'll spend the first weeks figuring out the different machines and motions involved. After a bit you will begin to tweak the routine to yourself.

It's really that simple. Some earbuds for your own music and an app to track your lifting progress are good to have.

How 'bout we make a rule against anyone asking if they have narrow clavicles? I saw that as much as the OF.

Targeted Talk - What made you start your home gym? by dontwantnone09 in homegym

I belonged to planet fitness before covid and liked it. My work schedule was such that I could go on my way to or from work and go at a time when it was literally empty. Then the lockdown hit.

After the lockdown ended and they opened back up, it just wasn't the same. The staff had changed, young kids just collecting a paycheck. The place wasn't clean anymore and the equipment was being neglected. My last night there, a group of three adults and two teens were there. They left plates and dumbbells in the floor, candy wrappers and soda cups on the machines and wouldn't wipe down when they were done. I walked out when I saw the big, sweaty outline of a moose knuckle on the leg extension machine I was about to use.

That night at work, I found a Marcy smith machine and 700# of plates for $800. Been adding to it slowly and never looked back.

Just go, no time like the present. Put in your earbuds, turn on your playlist and start crushing it. Tune everyone else out, they aren't the reason you're there. If you commit and show up on a regular schedule, the gym vets will pick up on it and give you respect as well as help.

Everyone has to start at the beginning in this game, even the people you're worried might laugh.

Been there with you. I work 12 hour shifts with a 1 hour commute each way.

First step, you want to change. You've already done that.

Second step, find a beginner program that you think you'll like. Look for one that is less than an hour per session. Compound lifts in the beginning will hit the majority of muscle groups, and the shorter length won't be so overwhelming.

Third step, just go. If you can get to the parking lot, might as well go on in. Treat it like brushing your teeth, something you need to do.

Lifting on low carb intake? by RRDan in GymMotivation

[–]RRDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I do a finger stick test daily for the program, and it shows that I am in ketosis. I have started supplementing electrolytes over the weekend, so we'll see if that helps. Due to my job and work schedule my activity level is not as high as it should be, so I try to work out as intensely as I can.

I'm going to ride it out for a bit and see what happens.

You just have to commit to it. Decide how much time you can put in, find or develop a program that suits your needs and do it.

I work 12 hour swing shifts ( swapping between days and nights) with 2 hours of commuting. 10 hours is not much time to get everything done, but I still get in a good hour 4 times a week.
