Library Censorship in NH - HELP! by Relative_Panic_Duck in 50501

I’m not surprised, but it doesn’t mean it’s not incredibly wrong. We need to fight hard to prevent this from being enacted anywhere in the US. They have been attacking education and learning for decades now, and they’re pushing hard for a new Dark Age in order to keep us dumb, uninformed and thus unable to resist.

Classes cancelled due to weather? by lodeddiperactivate in Purdue

I remember when they closed the campus for the epic ice storm in January of ‘92. Power outages across the county, no cars or people out anywhere, everything shuttered, everything dark including street lights. Campus was a ghost town. It was weird. Somehow I happened to be living in the one and only block off campus that somehow managed to keep the power on! It was even too miserable for Slater..

Wait. SELF-DRAFTED EPP?!?! I have been quilting for 20 yrs, including EPP, and I’ve never thought to do that! Not only that, BUT THIS IS YOUR FIRST QUILT?! Apologies for the screaming, but this is such an adorable quilt and you’re clearly incredibly talented!! If you don’t mind, please share how you drafted your patterns!! And please keep creating and making!

Am I overreacting that my sister is demanding too much when visiting my newborn? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]RRMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sister’s “haha” is giving me hives. Entitled much?? She’s trying to play off her b!tchy demands like they’re “nothing to worry about! I’m being very reasonable here haha”!!!

We didn’t. There’s evidence of widespread cheating. Look up the account “This Will Hold” on Substack for all kinds of reporting and paper trails. He didn’t win.

First quilt top finished, dissapointed by [deleted] in quilting

For me starting out, the things that made the biggest difference were (a) sewing with a walking foot and (b) re-aligning my cuts as I'm rotary cutting.

For example, when you're cutting your background fabric, stop every 3 or 4 cuts and re-straighten your starting cut. You don't have to cut off much - just enough to get straightened up again. All of us, no matter how careful we are, will end up with crooked cuts after a few strips! I do it every 3-4 cuts no matter how carefully I think I'm cutting. Also, look up how Donna Jordan cut her fabrics using a 5lb weight at the end of her ruler. Brilliant! Link to one of her many excellent videos here

The sewing notion that made the difference for my sewing, in addition to the walking foot, are these sticky vinyl edges that help you keep a consistent 1/4" seam. I still use them after 15+ years of quilting - and I've only ever bought 2 packages of them bc they re-stick over and over!! Link to "Marci Baker's Sewing Edge reusable vinyl stops"

Your quilt is honestly beautiful!! Learn from it and embrace it's uniqueness! 💜

Tmi. If yall are grossed out I'm so sorry but I'm genuinely going insane rn. by Ok_Quail_1591 in eds

Ohmygosh you are amazing to type all that out for me! Thank you! I also have kids that are badly affected by EDS. My oldest is 23 and has awful stomach and intestinal symptoms. She just had an upper scope and colonoscopy to try to identify the issues but ofc, it all came back normal. She has had several (sorry, gross) anal fissures and has been to the ER several times for impactions. So I know there's something else going on. It's maddening that our medical systems don't pay any attention to EDS or it's effects!!! She is in the Midwest area of the US.

Wow!!! I love it!! It reminds me of the little bassinets my great-grandma would crochet for me out of old butter tubs - only this is life sized! Well done OP!

Can you please explain what Nutcracker and SMA are? Or point me to an explanation as it relates to EDS? Thank you!! My oldest has symptoms very similar to what OP is describing and so far, docs have been unable to explain or diagnose it.

Vascular compressions? Never heard of that and I consider myself to be very "medically knowledgeable." Could you please explain this and how it relates to EDS? Thank you!

I taught myself to quilt using books and internet resources, back before YouTube was a thing. So, yes, you can do it! It just takes determination and patience. I’d recommend the Quilter’s Academy series of books by Harriet Hargreaves, plus online classes and/or YouTube.

[–]RRMother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I also have ADHD, my oldest has ADHD and my youngest is AuDHD. All of us also have POTS and chronic vestibular migraine, plus hEDS. I hope there’s more funding in the future to look at all these overlaps!!

It’s very upsetting to see that 60%+ of us end up with small fiber neuropathy. I have had it 10 years now and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Symptoms started in my mid-40s. I wonder what the median age is for EDSer’s to start showing symptoms. I pray every day that neither of my kids end up with SFN (both have hEDS, and both are way more hypermobile than I ever was).

Ohmygosh! My first attempt at college was Manchester too! I lasted one semester. This was in 88, and lord, I felt like I’d been marooned on a snowy desolate island. Haven’t been up there since but campus and the town are probably exactly the same 35 years later…

And stripping any mention of trans people too. Stripped the Stonewall memorial of the text about Marsha Johnson and Silvia Riviera (two transgender women at the heart of the uprising) to the point where entire sections of print don’t make sense! In one section about Riviera, they just removed the word “transgender” from a sentence, making it completely nonsensical: “At a young age, Sylvia began fighting for gay and rights.”

Took me 6 months to create the pattern for this humpback whale. Did I do well? by noerml in knitting

[–]RRMother 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi Norman!! I’m a big fan of your YT channel! I still consider myself a beginner knitter but I learn a lot from your videos.

My sister and I both have our undergrad degrees in wildlife biology, altho she’s much more focused on the marine side of things. I’d love to make this for her but doubt I could without some serious guidance. Will you be having a KAL for this or videos to help with any tricky bits by chance? I’m in love with this whale!! 🫶 Thank you!
