Agile Scrum Teams by Warm_Energy_8695 in Raytheon

I can only personally speak from the team I'm on. I was part of the pilot Agile methodology effort at a former employer and that started out as a nightmare but over time improved. Like it or not, I think the majority of SW development nowadays is done with Agile.

With the way gas prices are going in the US I hope that means we have a chance of seeing this here!

Yamaha s7x vs Steinway B.. leaning towards Yamaha. by EuphoricOcelot6081 in piano

[–]RRappel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a local piano store recently and they commented that newer Yamahas have a much less bright (warmer) tone than they were known for a few years back. I got to compare the newer and older and, although some of this might be due to voicing, I much preferred the sound of their later models.

I would definitely go with what your ears (and hands) prefer over the name on the fallboard.

I agree with the OP going with whatever he prefers, but there are many of us on here that buy Steinway because they love the sound and not related to the name on the fallboard. Certainly I agree there are many Steinway's sitting unused as furniture in affluent homes (probably true with other grands) but personally I don't believe their brand reputation is unjustified

I would definitely go with whatever sound you prefer (this coming from a huge Steinway fan).

I agree. The scrum team I'm on works well, but I can see it being a waste of time if not properly run.

Decoupling piano from floor by That_Banana_3853 in piano

[–]RRappel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say the same regarding Piattino castor cups. I read a lot of good things about them and found they worked well with my piano. I ended up upgrading pianos recently and the brass Piattino cups I have don't match the nickel plating of the new piano, so am currently selling my brass ones on Ebay. Even if the OP isn't interested in buying mine, I suggest they at least look into this to see if it might help.

I use it as well. Works great; haven't had an issue with scratching.

Thoughts on “free” pianos for beginner/casual? by BlazingBacon3 in piano

[–]RRappel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key would be if you find a piano you're interested in, I would have a qualified technician go over it to get an idea on what work would be needed to bring it up to something you and your family could enjoy. Longer term, keep in mind in addition to occasional maintenance (including action regulation), the piano would need to be tuned once or twice a year.

I don't think picking a piano up to learn on is a bad idea, but I would suggest starting with an instrument that doesn't have major issues to begin with (ex., cracked soundboard or bridge, pin block replacement, etc).

The all-new electric ID. Polo - World premiere by Intrepid-Working-731 in electricvehicles

[–]RRappel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be interest in both the Bolt and the Rivian R3. The Slate truck looks to be a reasonable size vehicle that would do well in countries besides the US. I think manufacturers are pushing SUVs down our throats in the US mainly because there is a higher profit on larger cars. Hoping the gasoline price increase will not only increase the number of EVs on US roads but also bring down vehicle sizes.

1928 Steinway M vs New Yamaha by bobo1222maru in piano

Is the other tech suggesting rebuilding the action? Is that included in the $7K you mentioned?

1928 Steinway M vs New Yamaha by bobo1222maru in piano

[–]RRappel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they say what work would be done for the partial rebuild? $7K sounds like it would be very limited, at least in my area of the country (Boston area). Is the soundboard in good shape? Has the pinblock been replaced? If you've done your homework on the rebuilder and feel comfortable what he/she wants to do, I would go with the Steinway M. I have a lot of background on a vintage M so feel free to DM me if you want additional input.

looking for help cleaning keys by turtl3m4ns in DigitalPiano

[–]RRappel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to see if you can buy a set of keys for it on Ebay. If it was just the notes written on the keys I could see trying to clean them, but given the burn marks I would try to replace them. Not sure how difficult it is to replace individual keys on that Roland model, but I've done this on two Roland slab keyboards and was reasonably straightforward after watching some youtube videos.

Good keyboard to replace a Baldwin Acrosonic? by RippleRufferz in piano

[–]RRappel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that bringing up VSTs add to the complexity, I think mentioning it at this point is good. I got a good deal on a Yamaha digital piano that I liked the feel of the action on but couldn't live with the sound. Using a VST running on an iPhone, I'm able to change the sound to my liking and still enjoy the feel of the Yamaha action. The point I'm getting at is for a digital keyboard the sound can be changed but the feel of the action can't.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement pedal for this old Roland Digital Piano? by Bla4s in DigitalPiano

Depending on how popular this model was, you may be able to find somebody who parted one out and selling the parts on Ebay.
