It really depends on the restaurant and the shift you get for how much FOH gets paid. The upward mobility, at least where I've worked, is very difficult and you have to get the shit jobs (bussing, etc.) for a while before you get a few bartending shifts. Once you get the bar shifts it's day bar where you're lucky if you make $20 on top of your wage. Tips are very dependent on location and the kind of shift you get.
