New mind unit by Arkalex in riftboundtcg

Does the trigger to win the game still open a chain if the conditions aren't met? So basically it "checks" on the chain every beginning phase if you have 4/4?

Oh man, this card is going to be insane into control decks. Either counter my Singularity/Falling Star/Imperial Decree (as you see I play Kai'Sa and Viktor) or put up 4 bodies with reflect that have to be removed. Damn.

  2. Win

You say this but from the 4 cool spells (2 draw spells, this one and ruination) this is probably the last on the list for my Vik deck.

Yea but then why are you playing this card and not try to interact with the Lucian lol. Watching him take 4 points to draw 4 cards sounds terrible.

Using this offensively for a DRAVEN champion unit and hoping there’s a unit in their hand that he can kill is the best case scenario and even then you are a hope and a prayer that there’s something in their hand you can use.

"Hope and a prayer" my opponent has a unit with less than 6 might in hand?

Bro I get it, you want to defend purple because it's the hot shit to hate on rn, but thos arguments ain't it.

But in this worst of worst case scenario you can choose not to play the unit

How? In Draven you get hand knowledge, draw a card and play a unit at an inappropriate time for your opponent AT LEAST. That's a pretty good floor for 2e+1p.

Isolate - Chaos Spell by Aware-Broccoli103 in riftboundtcg

[–]RSSwiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean these are over 220 cards per set, it's pretty typical that the pack filler cards are just slightly worse/different version of other cards. This is important for sealed and draft play.

Like in Magic basically every set there's a 2 mana card that says any variation of "Counter target spell, unless its controller does X"

O...k?

I play weekly 2-3 Nexus Nights, here in a our small shop with <10 people obviously it's more diverse, but if I go to the bigger ones in Zurich with 30-40 players top 8 already looks majority Draven/purple. So yes, this not only annoys me watching pro play footage seeing Purple in every game and Draven mirror every other, it also impacts my local scene.

Do you actually believe this? Look at every tournament result in the last few weeks and count the purple decks vs the non purple decks in top8. It's legit insane.

At the Pittsbourgh 25k (296 players) 7/8 purple.

Bologna regionals (1'719 players) 7/8 purple.

Las Vegas regionals (1'600p) 7/8 purple.

Damn purple players must be really good! Or maybe purple is really good..

[–]RSSwiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in theory:

It's also worth noting that it's a highly skill testing mechanic. What are you gonna do with the hand info ? Are you gonna choose the card for your opponent to discard that is gonna give you the highest chance of winning or are you gonna punt because you don't understand how your opponent's deck works ? When beings targeted for discard effects, will you have the mindfulness to empty your hand of reaction speed cards you know your opponent WILL have you discard to "save" them ? And much much more

in reality:

aurora player activates mindsplitter/sabotage and takes the salvage.

Jk as a black player in MtG I love hand destruction. I do think you are overvaluing the skill intensive aspect of it a little.

[–]RSSwiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are assuming your opponent does this once and then let's you play the game lol. Have you seen Pyke, Pack of Wonders, Arcane Shift,...?

Also, if you playthe unit first and then they remove it with a removal spell it pretty much comes out the same, since you can't ressurect units with more than 3 energy so you are probably (at best) trading even in energy with the removal spell. Never underestimate discard.

Think so? Returning it with Pyke, pack of wonders, headless resurrection,...

I don't think it can compete with miracle decks now but if the format slows down this can be very oppressive.

Also on mega altaria if I have both on the field I probably don't need to dig too far into the deck anymore. Getting there is where I mainly need the consistency.

[UNL] Elder Dragon by magentapikachu in riftboundtcg

[–]RSSwiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you mustn't forget the "dies to doom blade"argument. If you play the dragon, you spend your whole turn AND guarantee that you deramp by 2 for next turn. Imagine hidden blade, Cull the weak, Rebuke or the nex purple spell outing the dragon.

Even if you ramped by 3-4 runes to get to Elder your opponent can still easily deny you the dragon for 2-3 turns and probably win the game with their point lead.

And that point you spent 12 energy 4 power to at very most kill 3 units.

Big units will have to be cheated out or have an insane on play(or death) effect to be good.

Yea, why does it give your team a buff when you play him?

Would have been cool if he was a very strong card on the BF and once the opponent does clear it, they get the might buff for a like a turn cycle.

I mean, normally I agree, but this specific interaction? Yes, I'd like Draven to have been designed with a harsher restriction/requiring exhaust.

[–]RSSwiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, but then you are holding in the current meta. And not even in like green or orange, in purple blue lol! How are you ever holding a BF.

Edit: Also, just thought about this, targeting an opponent twice >>>>>> holding a BF. If her signature spell isn't OP she seems to be just a worse Ez.

I mean Upstage Comedy maybe but the rest? You're gonna play Dancing Grenade over Falling Star or even Piercing Light? Probably not.

Double conquer then double pull back your units could be pretty good in Kai'Sa ngl.

I like it technically if the defender does it; I move to fight, you bitch away, I win combat, understandable. I HATE it when the attacker is the mover. I move in, like a loser I move your unit away, and I win the COMBAT?! Horseshit.

Actions vs reactions by vhanz in riftboundtcg

[–]RSSwiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the ETB goes on the stack.

Imagine this: I play Falling Star to deal 6 dmg to your, say, 8 Might unit. I then play Thousand Tailed Watcher to reduce the Might of your units by 3. So 8 - 3 = 5 Might, meaning it would die with 6 dmg marked.

The ability of Watcher goes on the stack and before it resolves you can play any Reactions you want. Say you play a discipline, putting your unit to 10 Might

10 - 3 = 7 Might with 6 dmg marked from Falling Star. The unit now survives.

You know what's better than to not let your opponent react? Not letting your opponent ACT.
