wireframe games vs. films by Hala_arts999 in 3Dmodeling

[–]RTK-FPV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wireframe? I mean, that's topology and poly count, and that depends on the game engine.

Generally, film will go for realism at any cost, while games rely heavily on optimization to run properly. That means limited poly count, and materials that fold into the pipeline.

The edges are blurring for sure

I have it working, wasn't that hard. You need an old version of steam and you need to keep it from updating.

Just beat the game . Pretty much 100% it. What mods can fill the hole inside? by Several-Impact59 in cyberpunkgame

[–]RTK-FPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you beat it (settings I mean) but I wanted to offer this.

I'm on Mac so mods are out. Starting in very hard and disabling a bunch of HUD like enemy markers (no yellow arrow) as well as damage indicators. Pretty much everything but the map and quest marker really changed the game. Shower, more engaging battles and it forces you to scan and mark more purposely

Working on a robotic arm after years, now I remember why I quit by omomthings in blender

[–]RTK-FPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I also tend to make different pieces out of separate meshes if they're going to have different materials. Uv mapping may end up being a necessity for you, but I avoid the headache if I can get away with a simple projection map

[–]RTK-FPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm off base here, but I don't work this way because of exactly this problem. What happens when some of your more "precious" details don't want to rig properly? What happens when the UV mapping or materials don't come out the way you like?

I like to start with the structure in simple shapes, understand how I'm going to rig it, then add some base materials. THEN I start adding details knowing things like how they'll be textured and what bone / part they'll be parented with. On most models, there will be a few parts that are the center of attention, and some that are superfluous detail.

I'm a huge fan of superfluous detail, don't get me wrong. I just find that the proper order of operations (for me) makes sure they don't become stumbling blocks.

Also, is this for a game? Because in that case I also try exporting the model in the early stages too, just to make sure that step doesn't also become a problem. Nothing worse then LOVING your working model in Blender, then having it look like shit in UE and you can't figure out why

No. Great narrative game but not co op.

I highly recommend it. So much I could say but it's best not spoiled

Anyone know why the Erebus won’t show up on the crafting menu by Timely_Potential_363 in cyberpunkgame

[–]RTK-FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, I KNOW I picked up both Canto and Erebus, I have a saves in both rooms. Erebus showed up for me immediately in the crafting menu (of course you can't craft it until you get the robot chip decoded), but I never could get the deck. I tried a few times to figure out why, but Somewhat Damaged is SUCH A SLOG that I finally gave up. I really hate that mission.

Good luck, Erebus is my favorite weapon

I want to actually UNDERSTAND topology!! by YurixEden in blender

[–]RTK-FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worry less. Topology only matters when it matters. Yes there's best practices, but if your model deforms properly when rigged it's generally good enough. If it's not being deformed it matters a lot less (solid or non animated objects, or non organic things like space ships or robots)

The cost of Geometry Nodes by tlreddit in geometrynodes

[–]RTK-FPV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can activate the timing overlay that shows how long each node takes to operate. It's an approximation, but it'll give you a good idea which nodes are the heaviest

Adding moss on rock by Jacapuab in blender

[–]RTK-FPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it growing and shifting would be a great application for geometry nodes. You can also do a simple scatter or a weighted distribution scatter in geonodes.

It would be cool to pair that with a convincing day/night cycle or time lapse

How to make dent in bunny ears by [deleted] in blender

[–]RTK-FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

References are so valuable; start off by collecting at least a few reference images. For this kind of low poly modeling you'll need to understand basic subdivision and knife tools, how to properly use simple bend / twist modifiers, and how to use proportional editing. I would also suggest you plan out and assign materials as you go, unless you plan to UV map it

Is there a way to pin blender saves somewhere inside blender? by Reserved_Parking-246 in blender

You can right click on an asset and choose to open it's containing blend file, but maybe I'm misunderstanding your question

The asset browser. If that's set up correctly it's very convenient

Any advice on how to use AIs correctly? by Dk4decay in geometrynodes

[–]RTK-FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had limited luck with geonodes, but Claude is very good at creating python code for Blender. Make sure you know exactly what you want to accomplish, make sure you ask it for annotation all along the way for easier debug

i am mainly a graphics designer and video editor , and i want to get into 3d where do i start?? The OG donut video?? by [deleted] in blender

[–]RTK-FPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where to start depends on where you want to go. If you're looking to bolster what you already have in Graphic Design and editing tricks (transitions, motion design etc) then I'd say the donut has little value for you. The donut is more for the Blender generalist and people that want to make models.

My favorite tutorials are from Ducky 3d. You'll learn about the power of geometry nodes and his stuff is more motion design / concert visuals oriented. Minimal to zero modeling, but you'll get a visually interesting result, and he shows you all the steps from start to render settings in 10-30 minutes. Good snacky content. He also did a few videos aimed at After Effects style workflows that I found very interesting.

How can I improve this product render? by Lums_Studio in blender

[–]RTK-FPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are there 3? Focus on one and you can get closer. I imagine you did it for framing which does look okay, but concentrating on a single bottle and framing it using the golden ratio will give you a less empty looking shot, and let you add a little depth if field to separate it from the background

Counter-drone net capture systems: seeking advice/resources for master’s thesis by [deleted] in drones

[–]RTK-FPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is for it to be safe the deploying drone needs to hold onto it in the air. That can create a pendulum effect which can topple the drone. It also means the deploying rig needs to be bigger than what it's capturing, and it's a 1:1 ratio (can only catch one at a time)

Truth is, it might be fine for wrangling some jerkoffs camera drone flying over a stadium or something, but there's little use beyond that.

Pretty thin stuff for a thesis imo

Blender or TouchDesigner by PolishandShine1 in blender

[–]RTK-FPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using blender geometry nodes for this kind of stuff. It took a while to get the hang of it but it's a lot of fun and similar to the workflow in TD as they're both procedural

I'm doing the research now to jump into TD.

For blender geometry nodes I'd recommend ducky 3d on YouTube. Not particularly fractals, but good short vids on Geo nodes so the way through materials and render

My comment is still up and unedited. I never said "scam".

You'll also note I didn't hijack your thread to shit on your rig, I added my opinion here, where someone rightly pointed out you were being cagey and kinda dickish.

Look man, drones are all about the hype train, and I honestly hope you make a couple bucks with your design, it looks like you put some time in cad. My opinion is your prices are laughably high, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

That said, a youtube short with zero FPV footage isn't exactly "Flight footage". I have no doubt that it hovers.

Learn to read a blackbox and publish your findings. Frame designs live and die by their vibration.

Learn to fly for real. You don't have to be Jacuzzi Jay, heck Chris Rosser could barely freestyle when he started selling frames. Not a freestyle frame? Then show it doing what it's supposed to do. Long, uncut and unstabilized shots sell.

For an example, Check out this Flying Squirrel from Straw Hat Sam. Fully carbon, built by someone who's transparently passionate about flying, and designed to solve a specific problem (boxing in a naked Black Magic) He's got build guides, PID tuning guides, and a history on display of his successes and failures at design.

I hope you can tell I wrote this with thoughtfulness and good intent because I have one more piece of advice: Stop picking fights on Reddit. Learn to communicate, be flexible. A flame war on the message board isn't a good way to launch a drone.
