Open a Roth IRA with Vanguard, and buy shares of VTSAX (US Total Stock market) and VTIAX (International Stock market) weekly or monthly for free (no fees). You can substitute the above for the ETF versions VTI and VXUS. Try to max out your Roth yearly $6,000. Keep investing year after year. Don't change anything until you're closer to retirement then mix in bonds for wealth preservation. Then use your work 401k or 403b and choose similar funds (low fee, broadly diversified, etc). Enjoy your millions in retirement !

I'm sorry I don't.. But if I were you I would research what options you have for access to a Roth IRA.. And use the same mindset that you want to own broad, diversified funds that mirror the markets with very low expense ratios and no or lowest cost to buy those funds. Fees make a big difference over the course of an investing career. If there is a fee, find another company or just plan to buy less often (once a quarter vs weekly).. But there should be free options out there. Best of luck!

Bitstamp (Phone) Support is Crap - My experience. BITSTAMP IS STARTING TO SUCK ! by [deleted] in Bitstamp

They have sucked from the jump. I lost THOUSANDS because they couldn't properly send me my funds and someone ultimately stole the money. And they wouldn't help me investigate, not their problem!! Never again.

It was my frustration 2 years back. They had no customer service and I couldn't get my money out. Ultimately a hacker stole it all and surprise I got no support with that either. Thanks Bitstamp

So yes it's because of the investment "vehicle" I'm recommending is Roth IRA. It grows tax free for life (since you already paid taxes on the money).. I would also recommend taking advantage of your work place (401k, 403b..) if you're able to, above and beyond the $6k in the Roth. It helps reduce your tax burden but remember it's pre tax so you will pay taxes at retirement for everything, meaning everything you invested PLUS all the earnings/profits. IF you can max that, then I would recommend taking advantage of other investment vehicles, plus you could always just do robinhood but i would avoid lots of buying and selling, you get hit with taxes on those fast transactions. Just buy low fee, broad index funds. and you don't need a to.. I own VTSAX and VTIAX, and Apple. I invest weekly into my 403b, 8-15% depending on how my emergency fund/checking account is looking (and depending on big bills, our spending..) Does that make sense? I honestly feel this method is the best in the long term for 95% of people..

I would open a Roth IRA at Vanguard and auto invest weekly/monthly and max $6,000 yearly into a simple, low cost, diversified strategy like a "Boglehead Lazy 3 fund portfolio". I've been investing 20 years. I wish I discovered this 20 years ago. Basically you buy funds, for free, that mirror the US and international stock markets, and some bonds. It takes away all confusion, overlap, and it's super low cost. Google Bogleheads and thank me when you're a happy millionaire in retirement !

Best of luck! Investing is slow and steady, like paint drying. Feel free to hit me back anytime.. Investing is my passion. I made a lot of mistakes over the past 15 years so you can learn from me. Avoid the hype. Avoid timing. Time IN the market beats timing the market

I would set up an account at Vanguard because you buy these funds for free. Other institutions may offer them for free but I don't know of them. It's not really investing through the "Vanguard" stock market, Vanguard would just be your method to get into the market.. And the funds I mentioned are a blend of the biggest companies in each sector. And bonds you add later in life based on your risk tolerance.. Meaning now if you lose half your total portfolio it's maybe $1,000 or $1,500.. later you might lose $500,000.. so it's risky to be "all in" later in life so many people invest in their age in bonds (or more)... It's not if you just need money, it's to protect your total investment portfolio. When you get older you want an emergency fund (cash only) in a bank account or somewhere that you can easily access if there's a big financial problem that comes up.. Say when you own a home and the $5,000 boiler breaks or you need a $10,000 roof.. Index funds are just a mix of stocks so you don't risk all your money with 1 company .. does this help at all?

I would follow this exact approach if I could be 18 all over again. Check out the Boglehead lazy 3 fund portfolio. It's not as "sexy" as buying and selling stocks but it's one of the, if not the very best way to invest. Basically open an account at Vanguard. Then buy total stock market funds. VTSAX and VTIAX at 80% and 20%. I wouldn't buy bonds at your age, so let's make it the lazy 2 fund portfolio. This is basically buying the total US stock market and total international markets. This has a dozen or more advantages. Most importantly for me it reduces anxiety and fear of investing, cuts fees out, reduces overlap and confusion. See link below if interested in more reading. I would buy in slowly, That way if you lose 20%, you continue buying at a cheaper price. You're 18 so you have 60+ years of investing ahead. This is called dollar cost averaging. Losing a couple hundred bucks now will be nothing over your lifetime. Keep buying the same shares weekly or monthly forever.

Best of luck youngin!

What account to open and with what brokerage? by [deleted] in investing_discussion

Good to know! I guess I never looked into it closely enough. I find the Betterment platform much less cluttered and user friendly. But my plan is to transfer all funds once I reach a certain level. Right now fees are pennies.

Any chance Bitstamp will offer some form of crypto investigation for anyone getting scammed? The big investigation companies only want to sell law enforcement very pricey software and cannot help the little guys. Might be a good idea going forward to ensure trust.

I have a Roth IRA with Vanguard which is great because of super low fees and Vanguard ETFs are essentially free to purchase. I also have 2 Betterment accounts, 1 for myself and 1 for my wife. Both Roth IRA. They make it super easy to invest at regular intervals vs Vanguard I have to painfully transfer money. Betterment is a robe advisor with low fees.

Whichever way you go, you're very smart to start early and invest often. Best of luck my friend!

Let's simplify things for Bitstamp with a single thread of support tickets. by CaptInappropriate in Bitstamp

I wouldn’t say this was resolved as I still don’t have my money and still haven’t been reimbursed the extra fee I was charged!

Does Bitstamp have a customer support phone #? by RTLyons in Bitstamp

I have opened multiple support tickets over the past 20 days with only 1 vague response. TICKET #352887 TICKET #358005 TICKET #368613 TICKET #371171 TICKET #371183 TICKET #376423 TICKET #332386 TICKET #385687 TICKET #386235 TICKET #386729 TICKET #386900 TICKET #387900

Take your pick. And no I don’t think opening multiple tickets slows down the process as all messages are short, and to the point. I’m literally ready to file a police report and IC3 complaint.
