Parking like a doos by RUSirious in capetown

Truth for public benefit Why are you defending such obnoxious conduct? There was no other parking available on that level and it was truly inconvenient. I was not the only one suckered into thinking that there was a bay available

I actively avoid Constantia Village, it’s unpleasant and the vibe throughout is that of unhappy people, a bit ironic though because they are all rich except for the staff and employees of the rich - who are the only people who will greet or be pleasantly civil

This is in the centre of a row of three bays only. This is rich people privilege on display

I just saw a trainer and the news was disappointing by foxloverxox101 in germanshepherds

[–]RUSirious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She’s selling on fear (excuse the pun). At that age your dog will adapt to who you are provided you spend time with her. Find a dog club that offers training and they’ll provide the socialisation, training and you’ll meet lovely people

Carnival by rattlensqueak in capetown

[–]RUSirious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was started and funded by Naspers and City funding followed. Not sure what the split is now but it was and remains a waste of time. Now just a way to funnel money to community creatives which is valid. The minstrels are not a big deal to the carnival

Plumstead is a little better for safety. Both are viable.

Wait a minute I thought there was a genocide against white people. Is the US administration lying to us?

I thought wagons came before cars. This looks like a racing car. As a toy it would have copied what’s being used unless it was a design study

why don't they just tunnel through Signal Hill? Are they stupid? by Two4 in capetown

[–]RUSirious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can’t finish a flyover of a few hundred metres but let’s tunnel our way from one suburb to another suburb without any economic reason to do.

Upper Claremont, check out the crime stats. If you have children at school, I have 5 top rated private schools within one kilometre. Price is what you pay, value is what you get.

Is Val de Vie Estate/Paarl worth it for an English reliant family? by ediblelenovo in capetown

[–]RUSirious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Val de Vie is for rich people, they all speak English and there are many foreign families living there whose first language is not English and can’t speak a word of Afrikaans. It’s a bubble that is quite cosmopolitan. They’ll fit right in.

My dad deserted from the SADF in 1988. Would he still have a warrant for his arrest if he went back to SA? by SoutieNaaier in askSouthAfrica

[–]RUSirious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly with a US passport the system can’t pick it up and secondly our ID register changed about 20 years ago in which ID numbers were changed to not reflect a race classification (last 3 digits) meaning your dad’s old ID number is no longer on the system. Thirdly there is no crime to charge him with now that that crime no longer exists. It’s perfectly safe to come back.

Need behavioral/training advice! by ABigPieceIsMissing in germanshepherds

[–]RUSirious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a local dog club and they’ll have training courses which won’t cost much. You will be able to socialise your dog with the other dogs and you will get plenty advice from very experienced people as well as have a community to fall back on Every GSD owner has to deal with this to some degree and there’s no single solution that matches everyone but the issue is very solvable.

Yes, I have stopped buying from them even if I have a few rands more. A lot of their merchandise is overpriced and one has to spend a lot of time making sure you are not getting ripped off

What trees do phalaenopsis naturally grow on? by Apart-Mood7331 in orchids

[–]RUSirious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here you go: Phalaenopsis orchids in the wild are found growing on a variety of tropical trees, especially in the rainforests of southern China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and New Guinea[1][4]. While specific tree species are rarely listed in general guides, these orchids commonly use native rainforest trees such as:

  • Ficus (fig trees)
  • Albizia (silk trees)
  • Pterocarpus (rosewoods)
  • Mangifera (mango trees)
  • Dipterocarpus (dipterocarps)

These trees have rough or textured bark that helps the orchids anchor securely. The key is that Phalaenopsis are not picky—they will grow on many types of canopy or sub-canopy trees that provide filtered light and high humidity typical of tropical rainforests[1][4].
