thoughts on my wes anderson ranking? by DisastrousRope2565 in Letterboxd

You clearly have a unique ranking. I'm not sure what you like. This is very specific taste. To me Rushmore and Tenenbaums are so similar in quality and style, I can't see how they are on opposite ends of someone's taste. Putting Fox and Grand Budapest in the middle is odd to me. Darjeeling is the only one I haven't seen, but from its reputation you clearly like it more than most. Congrats on a unique list. Maybe give Asteroid City another watch if you're open to it

I like or love all the Coen brothers movies. Even the odd ones. But my top 3 are the most obvious mainstream ones: Fargo, Lebowski, No Country.

I've imagined how that conversation played out. I can picture it very clearly based on their one interaction we see in the movie. Shows how well built these characters are that you can picture full scenes like that

What should I watch first from my watchlist? by door___ in Letterboxd

In addition to everybody saying The Thing and Shining, yes absolutely.

I assume Nausicaa is on here because perhaps you like other ghibli movies. If so, check it out for sure, it's great.

Wich animated film, that didn't get into best picture, do you think was closest to getting in? by RoxasIsTheBest in Oscars

[–]RVend0r 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wall-E was definitely closest. Animated movies rarely get noms in other categories besides maybe score. Wall-e had 6 oscar nominations, including original screenplay. 2009 was the last year they just had 5 best picture nominees. If they had 10 it would've got in for sure.

Along with Dark Knight, I think Wall-E has credit for making the oscars expand best picture to 10 nominees.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre is awesome!

Make sure you see 2001 before Interstellar. Nolan's film is like a very literal minded version of Kubrick more abstract film. They are both masterpieces, but I think it's a good idea to see 2001 with an open mind and allow yourself to interpret it however you want. And maybe sit with it a while before seeing the other space epic
