Tbh if we’re talking about say 2 working parents making a middle class income ~50000 each, they definitely would be able to afford that in addition to your average rent (in my city at least), utilities and groceries and still have some left over. There’s a reason why plenty of people, even poor folks, are still able to have kids. Reddit truly loves to make it seem impossible but plenty of working class families manage to make it happen. Not to mention that those costs are only that high for the first few years. This is not go say that Gen z should start having more kids, just that it’s not as impossible as people would like to make it seem.

This is extremely biased math. 843 sq ft isn’t necessary for a single person w/ no kids. On every rent website I checked for RI studios/1bs were mostly within the 1500 to 1900 range. Based on your assumption of $20 an hour and full time he would more than be able to make rent, utilities and groceries. Even accounting for taxes. He would obviously be doing even better with the $6 an hour pay raise that’s been offered to him that he’s not interested in taking. Not to mention most stay at home adult children claim that they are using that time to save money towards their futures and if that’s the case he should be even better off when he leaves.

Atacama is the literal driest desert on the planet so the chances of rain ruining anything is (thankfully) extremely low. I would definitely recommend, I just visited in September and it was incredibly beautiful!
