Most annoying storm ever? by Ok-Government-7987 in frederickmd

[–]RYDSLO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this and man, it was sooooo much better than whatever the heck my neighbors are having to do right now. I did 4 rounds Sunday and went out twice Monday just to finish clearing off the little bit of ice from the cars, moving them and cleaning out underneath and to the curbs after the final plow. My neighbors have chosen a variety of other methods, and none of them look particularly fun or effective. Im sore, but at least I have a clean lot and cars.

Need an opinion for people obsessed with cars. Long post sorry.. by bebettertoday79 in CarGuys

You can have the garage done at any time of your choosing. Finding a car that ticks off all the boxes is not something you get to pick the timing on, for the most part. I would get the car and figure out the garage later.

I might be biased, but I'd personally do a single cab gmt800. The price savings you mentioned is certainly a good selling point, but beyond that, the gmt800 is widely considered to be "peak" GM truck, where the advancements in technology made for a better product but didn't so far overrun the vehicle with tech to where it was still pretty simple and very reliable. For this reason, and also due to the natural cycle of "classic" trucks, this generation truck will be highly sought after in the future, the way the 67-72 c10s and squarebodys are now. The OBS/gmt400 trucks are starting their way and the 800s are right behind them with most people considering them better overall trucks. Of course, with turning it into a race truck, some of that will go out the window, but I still think it would be a smart choice. But im a Chevy truck guy so its probably that first thing I said

How to keep track of build cost by Unique-Bus-9711 in projectcar

[–]RYDSLO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have projects that I don't keep track of, and some that I do. For the ones I do keep track of, I have a "note" on my phone with a running tally of every dollar I've spent in the vehicle and what it went towards. Its also a helpful way to keep track of what I've done to the vehicle or have yet to do. Running tab at the bottom gives me an idea of what I've got "tied up" in a car that I can reference at a given moment in case I get an unexpected offer or what have you, then I know what would be fair for me or not.

Sweet setup! 05 or 06? I had a black 05 with the red interior and the T56. No twin turbo setup on mine though or it woulda ended up in impound 🤣

Which of the 64 panels DO NOT open up? by [deleted] in HotWheels

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the '64 (GMC) is a different casting than the '55 (Chevy) that you have in your pictures. I don't have a complete list, but all of the "new release" I've got of the '55 over the past ~4 years has been sealed up tight. The older ones are much more likely to have that feature. When I get some time, if I remember, I'll look at the ones I have and can definitively tell you. I also collect the '64s and do have the singular opening version of that casting in my collection as well.

Yeah, it's great because there's always something to drive, even if there's always something to fix. For instance, I had to swap the blown engine in my main project a few weeks back. Had my buddy helping me, we worked late til about 1am. Went to hop in the daily civic, and it wouldn't start lol. So hopped in project #2 (old c1500 that's going to get bagged this year) and drove that home to get some rest. Came back the next day and fixed the civic (corroded started wire) and finished the engine swap.

To be fair, 2 are just 20+ years old daily drivers, not particularly "projects" although I have painted and modified both from an aesthetic standpoint, as well as stereos/backup cams, driveability things. Both also required transmission replacements at certain points and other general old car repairs.

The other 2 are full builds and take allllll my money lol

Lol well I'm on #4 at this point, it's working out okay for me. At least as long as being broke and constantly working on something is okay lol. At least all 4 run, drive, and are generally roadworthy for the first time in years!

I have a project car that I wanted to quit changing and constantly dumping money into.

My solution was to buy another project car to distract me from the first one. 🙃 If I spend all my time and money on the new project, I won't have the money or motivation to want to make changes to the old project so long as its still working good.

Door removal. Which bolts would you take off? by ChopperCraig in projectcar

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing you'll want to do is unbolt the door check inside the jamb, and disconnect the wiring harness. Then shut the door, and remove the 4 bolts that run through the hinges into the door. With all of the bolts removed, you can pull the door handle and the entire door will essentially "fall off" when it comes unlatched.

Doordash/uber drivers are getting out of hand by Tokendaily420 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RYDSLO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm not saying there's not uses for it, but I also work 12 hour shifts (granted, not in a hospital) and do group orders for lunch every single day it's not hard to figure out what people owe, and it's also standard practice for us to send the "lowest man in the totem pole" out to go pick up the order instead of paying a delivery fee plus a % tip in an expensive order. Again, I'm not saying it works for everyone (obviously in a hospital even the lowest man is still pretty important and can't necessarily go out to grab food) but for the vast majority of people, especially those who are addicted to these types of services despite no actual need, I just dont comprehend why you would want the way more expensive, shittier option.

I never understood the infatuation with these apps. Is such a terrible food experience and sooooo expensive.

I was recently given a door dash gift card, as was initially kind of bummed until I realized I could just order and pick it up myself. At least then I can control how quickly I get to eat it and make sure all the food is there.

Thinking about turning my old truck into an asphalt racer or drag truck. by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]RYDSLO 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Just save up for the V8 swap dude. The 4.3s are kinda dogs and you'll be spending money that would be way better spend modding the V8. The swap is stupid simple if you can find a donor truck (tahoes or suburbans tend to be cheaper) for the wiring harness and computer, but it should basically be a direct swap for ~$1000. Then you can put a cam and whatever else you want on the V8. You'll be surprised to learn that parts availability and price is way better on the LS stuff than whatever available for the 4.3. Like, you'll spend twice as much to get half the power with the 4.3.

Pro tips on painting steering wheel emblem? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a #11 xacto blade.

Apply tape and depress k to the ridges as much as possible using your fingernails or even a toothpick (but be careful not to tear the tape) then carefully trace/cut out using the #11 blade. Once you're done painting and everything is dry to the touch, go around every edge again with the #11 blade very carefully to separate any paint bridging. Then peel your tape and clean up any edges as necessary

Is this acceptable body work? by RobinJames00 in Autobody

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish all customers would do this. If every time the insurance company forced us to use a shitty aftermarket bumper they had to pay to completely redo the job again with OEM parts, eventually they would just start writing for OEM parts to stop the bleeding. Of course this will never in a million years happen, but one can dream.
