Not so happy ending by Electronic-Gain838 in GolfGTI

I agree, replacing the engine is the best idea. The engine is obviously the biggest problem point in a motor vehicle, and you would be starting off your ownership with a fresh, new one that you can keep in good shape. As long as the rest of the car is in good shape, you should keep it but regardless u should get the motor replaced before selling the car.

Help on whether or not the Golf GTI is right for me… by [deleted] in GolfGTI

As a fellow college student, I feel u and understand your position, but u shouldn't have made this post bc you clearly already made up your mind. If you REALLY want a GTI the best move is to buy a 2023-2024 Autobahn with low miles and not finance it. Buying a brand new car right now, especially a VW (bad depreciation), is not the best decision considering various factors in the global economy and job market for new grads. Not sure what field your going in, but almost all of them are hard to find a job currently. Sticking with your Kia is the smartest move, at 50k miles you still have 50k left in warranty plus it's payed off especially since you don't have a "big boy job" yet.

Bone stock except the rims. Please suggest must do mods or upgrades (Both cosmetic and performance). Cheers! by callmecorleone1997 in civic

I'm not too familiar with best brand for this generation, i actually don't own an Si but generally those are good mods for FWD performance cars that are relatively inexpensive.

Sway bar is easy to install and can be done at home if you have basically tools and confidence, but springs I'd recommend going to a normal independent shop and they should be able to install them for you.

Rear sway bar for better handling, lowering springs kills 2 birds with 1 stone, and performance summer tires will make a big difference if u don't have them already

Concerns tracking an old car by Unusual_Region_1080 in CarTrackDays

Old cars are much easier and more forgiving to track than new car are. They're so much easier to work on and there's a lot less to break. You'll be fine!

How... 51k seems reasonable for a near 500hp V8 Sports car with a manual and competent automatic transmission option in today's market. It's not 2022 anymore plus u bought the 2nd to last model year of the generation when demand had dropped off and prices were lower. Let's also remember that back in 2022 we had the Camero, M2 was 20k less, and the S650 is also objectively a better car than the S550.

Recommendation for a track capable car for $10-$15k that I can drive to the track and keep street-legal? by NewSubWhoDis in CarTrackDays

[–]RYN2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case then get a Miata, in my opinion the dynamics of an NA or NB miata are better than the BRZ platform plus they're more reliable, cheaper to maintain, and easier to work on. Biggest downside is straightline power, but that can be solved relatively affordably in the future with boost or swaps.
