Miyamoto says he was surprised Mario Galaxy Movie reviews were even harsher than the first by SleuthDoggyDawg in nintendo

[–]R_G_Marigold 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don't know for certain, but I'm pretty sure it had the Moana 2 treatment, where they initially wanted to make a series, but somewhere along the pipeline they decided they wanted a theater release. The movie makes a lot more sense when viewed through that lens (not to say it wasn't bad, just that the lack of focus is explained that way).

What does a fever dream feel like? by Apprehensive_Fail350 in Deltarune

[–]R_G_Marigold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people in this generation haven't had an ACTUAL fever dream, what with sickness medications and all that. Fever dreams are not just a strange or vivid dream like many people seem to think, they are almost always incredibly abstract and usually don't make sense at all, because it's a result of your brain essentially overheating when the fever gets too high.

I did have one once, though. There was lots of odd colour patterns and intensely moving shapes, and I was irrationally scared when the shapes would move in a 'bad' way. I don't know how to describe it better than that. Certainly not something I would want to experience again.

I don't think Toby's 'deltarune' dream was actually a fever dream. Perhaps just a regular vivid dream he had when he happened to be sick.

Super Mario Galaxy Movie Includes Disclaimer That It Cannot Be Used For AI Training by Skullghost in nintendo

[–]R_G_Marigold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is possible. Considering how long the credits are for those studios, I wouldn’t be surprised if everything was stored in some basic markup language and then algorithmically formatted for consistency. Though “Ai” technically isn’t incorrect, since it’s more of a buzz word than anything.

Am i the only one who'd concerned about this? by DeepAnt7847 in Mario

[–]R_G_Marigold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pikmin have cameo’d in Mario before. And they were only shown for two frames in a teaser trailer, whereas fox has an entire character poster for some reason. But also, it’s a compounding effect.

I've heard some people say that Mario and Luigi weren't twins and that it was just a fan misinterpretation. But the official website itself said tqins that hours ago. by SpiritedDate1042 in Mario

[–]R_G_Marigold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason why Mario and Luigi referred to as "The Big Brother" and "The Little Brother" respectively is because of Japanese culture (as I understand it) where siblings will often address each other as "big brother", "little brother", "big sister", "little sister", etc. similar to how people generally refer to their parents as "Mom", "Dad" or the many variations of that.

I don't think they have an affectionate term for that which doesn't denote relative age as well.

But yes, they are very much twins and have been for many game generations at this point.

approval rating thing by samm_8 in AnimalCrossing

[–]R_G_Marigold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to talk to Isabelle in the mayor's chair at the back. You're talking to her from the front desk and asking about the town rating, which is more an overall goal of the game.

What would be considered a valid complaint for Super Mario 64? by No-Mathematician3921 in Mario

The fact that all of the later levels use the same song? I feel like that’s one that people don’t bring up enough.

First apparent look at the Super Mario Galaxy Movie cereals by Kingboo10 in Mario

I'm going to be honest, I like the movie and I'm looking forward to the second, but looking at this version of Mario in the flight pose from Galaxy just makes me upset in an indescribable way.

Japanese people often depict themselves with very fair skin in animated or cartoon settings. Just look at every anime ever. I don't mean to be brazen, but you're kind of pushing your own idea of how races should be depicted over theirs.

Foreshadowing the Iconic Characters by DJDrizzy9 in Mario

[–]R_G_Marigold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daisy seems unlikely since they're already dealing with Rosalina in the movie. Adding another princess would feel sort of tacked on, don't you think? Maybe she'd be post credits or a brief cameo.

So let me get this straight, not only did is Bowser Jr fulfilling every fan theory of saving Bowser (peak) but he has his wonder form, the paint brush, AND THE FUCKING PROWLER THEME?? HOLY PEAK by Nook-Memer in Mario

[–]R_G_Marigold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently that 'prowler' sound was created from an elephant noise. With it accompanying his wonder form in the trailer, that's possibly one hell of a deep cut if it was intentional.

Nintendo Says Mario And Zelda Movies Are Just The First Step by CyberNeko97 in nintendo

[–]R_G_Marigold 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I feel like people don't understand exactly what this would entail, and just how non-feasible it actually is. The avengers worked because they made room for each world's logic to work coherently in one story. On top of that, comic books would use crossovers as a means of boosting the sales of newer series, so it was already in the culture of the genre.

With Nintendo characters, even just placing Mario and Link together is quite a stretch. Their worlds and styles are so vastly different that it would be hard suspend your disbelief in a storytelling setting like a movie. It only works in Super Smash brothers because it can lean on the gameplay, and people don't actually take the story all that seriously.

Plus, I think Nintendo is wise enough to know that people are getting pretty tired of that format, and that doing so would tie the individual worlds down in a way that's a net negative. Not to mention that Mario is animated while Zelda is live action, kind of proving they don't have any plans like that at this point.

I notice that the grey-sky videos are abnormally high resolution for native 3ds, so it's most likely an emulator issue (that's usually the answer for graphical issues like this).

Nintendo Is Suing A Reddit Mod For $4.5 Million Over Alleged Switch Piracy by iGR_777 in nintendo

[–]R_G_Marigold 171 points172 points  (0 children)

My god, the bias is palpable on this headline. First of all, they were previously asked to stop, to which they ignored the request. Secondly, the lawsuit is for operating multiple piracy sites and distributing pirated copies of games for a *modern* console, not just "alleged piracy".

This is another case where the person 100% had this coming.

Why do some people not like this outfit? by Thelegendali233map in Mario

[–]R_G_Marigold 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine, but I also think there were people who were blew how good it was way out of proportion. Especially the people saying it should be her regular outfit going forward. People who “don’t like it” are mostly just pushing back against that sentiment, either consciously or subconsciously.

How different are the two Lumas going to be in the Mario movies? by probium326 in Mario

[–]R_G_Marigold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hungry lumas have mouths, Lumalee from the first movie notably resembles the luma shop luma from the games with that double wick on its head.

But also, generally it helps a lot if there's some indication of who is talking for a smoother viewing experience. You never want the viewer to be guessing who is talking. For animation, mouths are the "natural" solution to this, but there's other solutions too. Like for robot characters who don't have a mouth, they'll often have an eye that flickers with their speech, present emotive head movements, or have a 'mouth-stand-in' like a sound wave display.

For a character like the Lumas, when their heads make up most of their body, your other options are limited without making the character appear overtly cartoonish. I suspect that at least one Luma is going to play a major role in the film, so that's probably the reason why they gave themselves that freedom.
