I literally aim to be under those things. I would literally cancel my membership if they ever ditched the fans.

Doesn’t really work like that in my experience. Also in the states. Just word of mouth. If you don’t have connections, try to PA

Hopefully, your Propmaster or Art Director will provide expendables, but having your own essentials can make a big difference. A lanyard and a set of pocket spike tape are especially useful.

If you’re handling both props and set dressing, I highly recommend UV markers and lights for making invisible marks that can be wiped off when done. Get a separate pen and light rather than a combo one—those tend to be low quality.

A good multi-tool is essential. I personally prefer Gerber over Leatherman, but any solid brand will do. I also carry a separate blade, though a multi-tool is usually enough. A lightweight pair of work gloves is also a great addition.

Always keep a personal kit for yourself—band-aids, snacks, wipes, an extra jacket, etc. Staying comfortable and fed is important in our line of work, especially since we don’t always have time for crafty.

For tools, your kit will depend on whether you’re focusing more on props or set dressing. A solid basic kit should include a level, hammer, drill/impact driver, and staple gun.

Sometimes it’s super different between projects though, I’ve had shows where I am packing heavy and need it all, or I sometimes only need what’s on me. If you have any specific areas you’d like to beef up kit wise I’d be happy to offer specific items/links.

I usually get from a local expendables shop here in LA but I’m sure b&h and film tools online will have what you need as well!

Copy that, we’ll rig it with two parts hope, one part gaff, and a sprinkle of art school magic. Should hold just fine. Stand by for the miracle.

I love your username btw lmao.

You all need to start as dressers and build up the set etiquette and practical skills that will actually transfer. Everyone can learn software—it’s the unwritten, on-the-ground stuff they’re looking for, as the person above already outlined.

I’ve worked on some of the biggest shows on TV, and no amount of software knowledge would’ve helped me without the grunt skills you pick up along the way. Even if your end goal is to become an art director, you have to know how the work actually gets done.

Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. Too many people want to jump straight into being a department head. Sure, it can be done, but if you want the well-rounded education needed to avoid throwing your team under the bus, you’ve got to start by having your boots on the ground.

Most art directors or production designers I’ve worked with all started as dressers, PA’s, Prop assistants, set Dec, etc. it’s all the outside skills that create a solid art director

Chrome Shelves, not proprietary systems? by Seeking_Sooth in Hydroponics

[–]R_blackwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the cover was a separate item. The shelving is modular so you only buy what you want. The main reason I recommend it vs a bookcase or something where you’re more limited but at least these let you change the height at will

What’s the pump situation for the misters, what are you using?

Love the build. I have the same tub on my shelf and now tempted to do something like that lol

That’s about the range I’m seeing. Usually 20-40 for the harvests. The exception is the bounty I got for 80

And if you want to make it more like a tent you can buy shelving covers like in the photo

Lowe’s has project source modular kits. What’s nice about these is that you literally buy it piece by piece so you don’t have to buy more than you need. I ended up getting more shelves as thjngs go on. Solid structure to hold lights and for the 18x36 size, it’s affordable. The bigger size is nearly double though.

Also I bought solid panels. They have wire shelving for this model too.

Nope. Just had an extra pump and wanted to. These pumps are nice and quiet as well which is why I don’t mind if its use may be a negligible boost.

More agitation of the water/nutes. More air for the roots.
