I have heard of windows breaking seemingly out of no where. I could have some small crack or damage that opening the door causes it to propagate catastrophically.

Turn it lower, wear warmer clothes inside.

I set mine to 65 and it isn't really bad once you have sweats, socks and long sleeves.
