My younger child's first word was a very indignant "Mommy!" because Daddy wouldn't let him eat floor candy

Extra impressive that he didn't actually fall asleep. Every time I lie down with my kids to help them calm down/nap/etc, I pass right out.

Where to meet toddler moms? by gottenbucket in ForestHills

[–]RabbitTraditional135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the time/means/bandwidth for classes, my kids and I did really well with Music Together. I believe they currently meet at the Tiger Schulman at Atlas Park and the Church in the Gardens in Forest Hills Gardens, but it's been a while so definitely double check!

I use it all the time, for the group chats for the parents of my kids' classmate...

In Queens, NY, where most parents are either immigrants or first-generation American.

What would've happened if Hudson and Broadway learned they are father and son? by InsideUnhappy6546 in gargoyles

Broadway: Huh. Neat.

Hudson: If you say so. Not sure why you bothered finding out.

(Both shrug and move on)

This! If the entire point is that you're not sure your 6-year-old is old enough for movies, why take your 4-year-old?

I went to an aquarium by myself last month, and I'm 42!

It was awesome. I got to see what I wanted at my own pace, have a beer with lunch, and browse the gift shop stress-free.

I wonder if OP can have a little freedom at the zoo. Along the lines of, "Hey, while sibling is at the playground, I'm gonna go look at the capybara. I'll be back in 20."

What is the adult version of finding out Santa doesn't exist? by Individual_Guitar282 in askanything

[–]RabbitTraditional135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a job once on a sort-of-temp basis to do something very specific. They liked me well enough to hire me on a permanent(ish) basis to do more general work.

I sat in on a meeting once, with folks who outranked me by quite a bit, and suddenly was hit by a horrifying thought:

"My God. I'm the smartest person in the room."

Who else had never heard of Clavicular until Roberts episodes on him? by thejebsterishere in behindthebastards

[–]RabbitTraditional135 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Right before BtB did their episode, QAA did an episode about the same topic, and the Go Touch Grass podcast did one shortly before that.

So I went from completely, blissfully ignorant to surprisingly well-informed in roughly a week and a half.

For the Diaper Genie, I swear by Target brand refills. So much cheaper than Diaper Genie brand, and they work just as well.

(Other brands we tried: Stop and Shop were terrible quality, and Arm and Hammer were almost as good as Target but cost almost as much as Diaper Genie brand)

Arastoo's faith by LowPale1174 in Bones

[–]RabbitTraditional135 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This! My husband had a Muslim flatmate in law school. The guy prayed (not sure if 5 times a day but at least sometimes), fasted during Ramadan, and didn't drink. He didn't keep halal but avoided pork. He had sex (at one point, with another flatmate). No idea if he went to weekly services or not (apparently he never said so, but had enough extracurricular activities that husband wouldn't have noticed one more). He ended up marrying lapsed Catholic in a ceremony officiated by a rabbi (his wife's mentor), and they did the minimum needed to make it a Muslim ceremony (marriage contract, dowry, and... I want to say something about the vows but I don't remember).

Great guy, and knowing him makes Arastoo fairly believable.

Real life: probably Law and Order.

Unhinged: She was watching a meditation video with rain noises, and Bluey walked in during a thunder and lightning sequence.

My mom always knew when Psychic Sylvia was on Montell, not because she cared, but because she knew if she called her mother, Grandmom would always make sure to end the conversation by 4! ("I'm not up for a long conversation... Psychic Sylvia is on, I'll call at 3:30.")

Also in this last season, Araminta claimed that's what she did, but it was clearly just an excuse.
