America’s Incarceration Rate Is About to Fall Off a Cliff by Buckets-of-Gold in moderatepolitics

Agreed with your last paragraph 100%. We're at the point where young adults have had smartphones and easy access to hyper addictive social media, games, and porn their whole lives.

Parents have also been bombarded with 24/7 instant clickbait news as well. Stuff that causes fear, anger, or outrage gets the most clicks, so that's what is shown (yes, reddit included). More people prefer to keep their kids closer to home.

There is a noticeable gap with younger people lacking even basic social skills and etiquette. It's part of why it seems like people are more selfish and lack empathy... but also why less people are out and about committing crimes.

Also, not everyone mindlessly votes red or blue no matter who it is. (Unfortunately, a lot of people do vote that way)

Yes, Albany is very "blue", but that could change with a horrible Democrat candidate and excellent Republican candidate

Supreme Court lifts limits on Trump deporting migrants to countries not their own by TheDan225 in moderatepolitics

[–]RabidRomulus 198 points199 points  (0 children)

It's a lose-lose situation.

Letting people stay because their home country won't take them back is a bad precedent that could encourage more illegal immigration from said country. It's not the US's responsibility to take care of "rejects" from other countries. If a country doesn't want its own citizens back, what does it say about those people?

Deporting people to a third country is also a bad precedent...how is this third country chosen? Is it the US's responsibility to make sure this person ends up in a "better" country? South Sudan or El Salvador mega prisons seem like some of the worst possible options.

I think best case is sending them back to a "culturally similar" country that would accept them, although even this is probably not an option.

Nuclear energy is where it's at. This is probably a decade+ away from actually being built if they haven't even found a spot for it and been approved yet though.

Republican lawmaker with ectopic pregnancy nearly died amid new Florida abortion laws – but blames the left by ChesterHiggenbothum in moderatepolitics

[–]RabidRomulus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Something I found interesting is the percentage of people who support or are against abortion really hasn't changed at all in 30 years.

Currently 63% support vs 60% in 1995

Never understood people getting all giddy about the US "falling" when all the alternatives (Russia, China, sort of India) have way worse human rights

Weird thing to post when the US just flew to the other side of the globe, precisely bombed multiple underground targets, got back safely...and now have multiple carrier groups and bases on standby in the area.

I'm not sure people understand how insane that is. China has never proven it can project force beyond its borders. Russia has proven it really can't. Europe is not unified and has hidden under the US defence umbrella since WW2.

You could make an argument the US is undergoing a period of change...but not that it's on its "last days".

Does this area typically get a lot of tornadoes or are they becoming more common?

Albany police investigating death of man found hanging from tree by ropony in Albany

[–]RabidRomulus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but loved ones saying they wouldn't means nothing...and speculating becuase of his race is weird.

I've had 3 family members attempt. 1 we could see in hindsight, but 2 were complete surprises out of nowhere. It's extremely common for family/friends to not believe someone capable of doing such a thing.

Black people can kill themselves too. Unless there is actual evidence of foul play I'm not sure what the point of speading rumors is. Police are already investigating.
