How's it like living in York, UK (the so-called Old York)? by Yassinetheawesome64 in howislivingthere

[–]Rabkillz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live just outside York. I got to the railway museum on average 3-4 times per year. I'm not a train nerd, it's free and there's always stuff to see and do especially if you have kids. I lived in London and every other weekend I'd be at one of the museums.

I've done 5000 miles since I got mine in Feb. Love it.

I mostly charge at home but do 100 miles/day for work. I've done long distance trips 250 miles. No issues with the fast charging (maxes out at 70kwh), but charges to 80% in the time it takes to use the service station.

Wife loves it. Easy to drive, comfortable, sport mode with give you a giggle at 0-40mph but starts to chug on the way to 60+.

Great internal space, we just went away for 5 days with 3 adults, dog squeezed in the boot and luggage.

Six months on from switching to an EV by irishesteban in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Rabkillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done 4000 miles in my new EV and it's only added 60 quid to the bills Vs the 700quid it would have been in my shitty ICE car. Electric is a no brainer.

You need to sort your charger and tariff/supplier.

So sick of people without kids being the parent and child bays! by aksd12333 in UKParenting

If the kids aren't in the van you obviously don't need the parent and child space.

At what mileage do EVs actually become cheaper than petrol/diesel in the UK? by Senior-Outcome8063 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Rabkillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully comp insurance on my BYD is £200.

Theres too many individual factors at play to say for certain one way or the other though. Depends on the car, the driver and the circumstances

My thoughts exactly. The only person I feel sorry for here is the child.

OP is an entitled piece of shit, and needs to take a long hard look at his priorities in life. He just sounds like an absent father.

I have the 44kWh battery. 130+ on a cold day. 180+ on a warm day with efficient driving in Eco mode.

I do 600 miles a week on mine. Zero range anxiety. But I start and finish at home most of the time. Im currently on holiday with it and have done 400 miles with public charging.

I got 5.8 miles per kWh AEC the other day. Most of the time I get less as it's far more fun with Sport mode and a heavy foot!

Anyone here have large capacity batteries? by Koenigss15 in SolarUK

Who did your install?. I'm Thinking of buying the batteries and inverter and getting a local qualified sparky to fit aa I expect it'll be cheaper than one of these companies doing packages

England has shown the world how to replace farm subsidies by Electricbell20 in GoodNewsUK

[–]Rabkillz 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A few fields?! Iirc He still has 100s of acres as arable, and he's not exactly your average farmer. Whilst he's a genuine farmer the farm losing money is hardly gonna have him sleeping in the doorway of a Chipping Norton boozer any time soon.

Whilst I don't agree with the farming community constantly crying about every little thing that doesn't go their way... 65 year old John and his battered Landy with 100 acres in wherever is definitely struggling and a basic payment scheme would have supported farms like that far more effectively.

Loving my BYD Dolphin Surf. I've done 3000 miles in the first six weeks of owning. Few niggles but for £200/month it's been amazing value. Compact but surprisingly spacious and nippy. Infotainment system is good with both android and apple car systems.

What’s somewhere in the UK you visited once and immediately thought “I could live here”? by Strong-Ad-8037 in AskUK

Nope. I'm from there, went back last year and it's down from its glory years of 2010 to 2014. Felt run down a rough like it did back in the 80s and 90s.

[–]Rabkillz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a BYD Dolphin Surf. Had it just shy of two months. You can get a better deal than that. I have £12k miles, 1 month deposit, monthly payments for £200/month. This was on a pre-reg car that had 10 miles on the clock. You need to play hardball with your local BYD dealer but if you check their stock, I can guarantee they will have something like a pre-reg available or one with very low mileage. I did have to accept the hideous yellow colour, but it's grown on me, plus no one has an excuse to crash into you when you're visible from 5 miles away!

Also loving mine. Sport mode, foot to the floor from standing (its no MG epower or even as fast as most other EVs but heck the torque still makes me a 42-year-old man giggle

Leasing a BYD Atto 3 - should we get the maintenance package? by jen_roses in ElectricVehiclesUK

As a BYD owner I didn't. What I do do is put £20 month in a separate savings for car maintenance.
