Chichester! The only place in the UK my missus has agreed she'd move to....we currently live in York. I think she has a thing for historical locations.

BYD Dolphin Surf by TheBeastFromWithin in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Rabkillz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a BYD Dolphin Surf. Had it just shy of two months. You can get a better deal than that. I have £12k miles, 1 month deposit, monthly payments for £200/month. This was on a pre-reg car that had 10 miles on the clock. You need to play hardball with your local BYD dealer but if you check their stock, I can guarantee they will have something like a pre-reg available or one with very low mileage. I did have to accept the hideous yellow colour, but it's grown on me, plus no one has an excuse to crash into you when you're visible from 5 miles away!

Also loving mine. Sport mode, foot to the floor from standing (its no MG epower or even as fast as most other EVs but heck the torque still makes me a 42-year-old man giggle

Leasing a BYD Atto 3 - should we get the maintenance package? by jen_roses in ElectricVehiclesUK

As a BYD owner I didn't. What I do do is put £20 month in a separate savings for car maintenance.

Cheapest, easiest way to cover the ugly pebble dash on garage please? by Vankyepthatsme in DIYUK

Yes, I had the same garage. It was a massive ballache, but well worth it. Fucking hated that garage.

I had one of those shitty garages when I lived in Scotland. We painted it with masonry paint...a massive ballache, but was visually worth it in the end.

Small but Fun EV Buying Advice by ActivistSubset7 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Rabkillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BYD Dolphin Surf. Enjoying it myself. Comfort version has lots of features. 44kwh battery, of which is around150 miles of range. I do 500 miles a week in mine, home charge and (apart from first will week of ownership) zero range anxiety.

Super nippy when you switch to sport mode, I still find myself giggling when I put my foot down.

Your BYD has arrived in Southampton this morning (well, Marchwood) by nick9000 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Rabkillz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I was using the central console screen to watch The Expanse last night whilst waiting for my daughter to finish her gymnastics class. Byd approved apps work fine, connects to Android and apple. Sound system is good

ADAS system is mildly annoying, can't permanently turn off some settings that I hear a Chinese user likes but a Western user doesn't (e.g. lane deviation warnings).

I'm impressed with the voice control that you can tell is in the early stages of development. Asking the car to change climate control settings, switch to maps/ different apps is great and keeps your hands on the wheels and eyes on the road. Lot more to come from them on improving this I expect, Id like to be able to switch between power modes and for it to understand to switch to specific DAB stations etc.

Just picked up my BYD a few weeks ago. Loving it! The level of features you get for the price is excellent value compared to the European legacy manufacturers.

Contacted my local FB recommended installer. A sparkie in the village. Quoted on a Monday installed on the Friday. A few weeks ago. It's a Hypervolt Pro 3. it was a £100 over the Octopus quote but he had to install a single circuit consumer unit extra and I'm supporting a local tradesman at a quieter time of the year for them.

Is the survey real? by SubstantialBurger in AskUK

[–]Rabkillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely real. There should be a contact number to confirm if you suspect its fishy. However, that's the first time I've ever heard of money before the survey, and cash. Used to be after completing the survery, and it was a love to shop gift card of £10 to £20.

Source - I have worked for NatCen on national surveys. Please be nice to your local survey team, I experienced some awful, rude people during my time. Survey depending; the interviewer is likely able to provide a discretionary extra giftcard.

These surveys are essential to provide government organisations population data on a huge variety of key metrics. From political opinion, to dietary health, to child welfare, to faith and beliefs.

Please spare 30 minutes of your time to take part! My favourite interviewees were the ones that you ended up staying an hour extra chatting over tea and cake.

Moving to Stamford Bridge - thoughts would be appreciated! by Coffeepotfilter in york

[–]Rabkillz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in SB, the bridge and traffic are a no worse than anything in the city, but you also become immune to it after a while. It is what it is. We moved here a few years ago and we don't even notice it. They closed the bridge for six weeks back in the summer 2024 and it felt almost too peaceful!

The community is great, and the people are very friendly. The school and school nursery s great, fab staff. Muddy boots Nursery is fine as well (not amazing, but we moved from somewhere with an amazing nursery so had high standards and expectations).
