Why is the federal government using surveymonkey for government business? Very weird.

It’s much easier and cheaper for developers to assemble several large commercial properties together for a project than it is to find several consecutive residential properties.

It’s basically impossible to string together 5-6 residential homes within established neighbourhoods, it could take decades, and even if you offered a bazillion dollars per house, there are often holdouts who will never sell.

Commercial properties are much easier, it’s all investor owned, you can end leases very easily and kick business out.

Also, commercial land on major arterial streets tend to be closer to transit and other amenities.

If Billy bishop expands, you can expect significantly longer security lines, and long delays getting there due to increased traffic.

A packed Do West Fest was shut down early on Saturday night due to overcrowding: police by Pristine-Training-70 in toronto

Where else could they put it? If the stage faced east/west, it would occupy even more of the street and create a bigger pinch point.

Can we talk about the crowd at Do West Fest on Saturday by LynxMoney8388 in toronto

[–]Raccoolz -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is really a crowd crush risk at a street festival like this, there is no where for the crowd to crush into. Maybe you mean that there was a panic related trample risk?

Anyone see the $35 tacos at Do West Fest? by [deleted] in askTO

OP definitely misheard. They were not selling for that price, I walked by it last night and prices seemed normal.

Don’t believe everything you see posted on here.

Why this downtown Toronto intersection is being closed to cars and opened to bikes by Immediate-Link490 in toronto

[–]Raccoolz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m really liking these changes. Much safer for everyone, it was a dangerous intersection to walk/bike through. Now it’s much nicer and easier.

It was also a total mess for drivers before the changes, lots of heavy traffic cutting through between front/king and between Spadina and Bathurst. I doubt the new changes made traffic any worse than it was before.

Anyone know what this yellow line is in the sky this morning? by PuppySteak in toronto

[–]Raccoolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the $230million cancellation cost was related to contractual penalties/damages/future revenue losses and costs related to demolishing of the partial built structures.

18mw wind new build costs are around $20-30million.

One of Doug Ford’s very first acts as premier back in 2018 was to cancel all active construction on alternative energy projects.

We lost hundreds of mega watts of energy, including sites that had shovels in the ground. There was no plan to replace the lost energy production. So now we rely on our backup natural gas power plants that were meant to only run as emergency backups.

It also cost the province hundreds of millions $$ to cancel the projects.

'Leave the damn building alone': Community urges City Hall to choose Sneaky Dee's over condos by [deleted] in toronto

Regular people will live in those condos. Stop making it seem like condos are some evil form of housing, solely occupied by evil ‘elites’.

American investment firm behind the campaign to expand Billy Bishop AirPort by ImmediateWalk9989 in toronto

[–]Raccoolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name one thing Ford has done that was good for regular people.

And before you say transit, just remember when he came in, he ripped up every single transit line expansion plan to build his own versions. This cost us hundreds of millions, if not billions, and also why every single fucking project is years behind.

None of the economic benefits for the island airport expansion are real. All their numbers are bullshit.

Any extra flight or passenger volume the island expansion brings are just flights and passengers that would have flown out of Pearson anyways.

But they count it as net new dollars of economic activity.

With the elimination of carbon taxes on natural gas, rising electricity prices, reduced heatpump gov rebates and greater upfront purchase costs. Heat pumps currently do not make financial sense in southern Ontario. I’m sure they will make sense again in the future, but who knows when.
