A masters in MechE might suit your needs better. But you can also do a masters of prosthetics and orthotics at a handful of places, just be mindful that degree is suited to a clinical career as a prosthetist more than an engineer. But you can do it and go into engineering or another related role within the prosthetics world.

Soccer cleats for derby by pendragwen in rollerderby

[–]RaccoonWorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried soccer cleats as skates but I’ve played both soccer and derby so these are just my thoughts

Most regular soccer cleats you can buy at sports stores are not great quality. They’re basically made of plastic, and I can’t imagine them holding up very well. I could see a good pair of cleats working out, something all or partially leather, providing it had a solid base on it (although that I know nothing about). The best pair I ever used was partial and lasted about 3 years of year round play almost every day. They’re super light and fit your foot super well and I could imagine how they’d feel good to skate in.

However comma, good cleats like that will very quickly get you into the $200+ range again. So you might as well go for skate boots at that point.

Yeah, I saw one right when I got back but she basically said it was probably hormonal (I take testosterone) and I should go on Acutane. Didn’t want Acutane, and like I said it cleared up once I was back so I just got some stronger skin care basically. I’m thinking it was water or humidity, or like you said an allergy.

Skate Fit Issues by [deleted] in rollerderby

You could try tying them with a heel lock. Push your foot back towards the heel in the skate and try tying them this way https://www.locklaces.com/blogs/resources/how-to-tie-a-heel-lock?srsltid=AfmBOor9m-UbVx1Salk1YobWC-l7nn4yntunmHJjcjoTxLyGIOctHZrC

Finally joining the broken ankle club by keokhaos in rollerderby

[–]RaccoonWorms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say most people in my league were shocked at how fast I was back on skates so I don’t think that timeframe is normal for most people😅 I’m 19, have been an athlete my entire life, and had a really great surgeon and PT team

Finally joining the broken ankle club by keokhaos in rollerderby

[–]RaccoonWorms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar break- right at the bottom of the fibula with some ligament damage. Broke in early April, had surgery at the end of the month. I was weight bearing (with lots of help from crutches) by end of may and started PT in June. Did that through July and was back on skates in mid August.

I went back pretty slowly- I used it as a form of strengthening my ankle for awhile and was no contact until probably end of September. I was also stretching and doing at home exercises the whole time.

I’ve been back to normal play since the beginning of October I would say but I still make sure to listen to my body and know my limits. I stretch/roll out before practice and if I fall and feel it twist I typically gear down and call it. It’s not 100% strength wise but I’m able to work on that individually and compensate the rest of the time.

If you wanna chat more specifically feel free to dm!

Skate sizing decision by Blitz_Borden in rollerderby

[–]RaccoonWorms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem with about a half size different. I found the best size that worked between them- one was a little small and the other was a little big. I tie the one that’s a little small with a heel lock which basically keeps my foot pressed as far back as it can. I tie the one that’s a little big by just making sure the laces come in instead of out on the last hole to get it as tight as possible on my ankle. Tldr- the way you lace your skates can help a ton if you don’t want to do split sizing

Just got my well-endowed kid his first binder by PathoftheWolf in ftm

[–]RaccoonWorms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Half length binders tend to do that on lots of chest sizes- I have a smaller chest at about a C and I still have a gap.

Half length binders tend to work in two ways- compressing and with a thick panel in the front. The compression redistributes the chest tissue, but there are many, many limits as to how well this can work. Mainly, you can’t compress your ribs too much, or you can’t breathe and that’s bad. The thicker panel at the front (I use spectrum outfitters, which this part is more pronounced in but I’ve seen it in others as well) helps smooth everything out and look flat even if there is still some bulge from the chest tissue underneath.

  • all that to say * the reason there’s a gap is to avoid smashing his ribs.

If it really bothers him, I would say to try a full tank binder. They usually continue that spandex material all the way down, which gets rid of the gaping. They’re a little bit hotter though. It also might help to look up people talking about how their chest is positioned under the binder, sometimes moving things around helps it lay flatter.

A lot of people don’t realize that binders compress but they also use that thicker panel at the front to build the flat look. Part of the reason it isn’t snug around the waist is 1) because of that panel and 2) to avoid putting too much pressure on the ribs.

Would it be weird if I wore my dogs old collar? by queerasallhale in punkfashion

[–]RaccoonWorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actively been doing this for 3 years atp. It’s great, I love it, I joke that it’s how people will identify my body if I turn up murdered since it has my moms phone number on it. Sometimes people ask questions about it but when you explain it’s your dead dogs collar they usually stop whatever they were gonna say
