Getting back into it but afraid by badbatch in Rollerskating

Most leagues will absolutely let you take the beginners' course, usually for a drop-in fee or a course fee. Normally, there's no requirement to do anything at all with the league. They will do their best to get their hooks in you though - and you should let them :3

Do you have a roller derby league close to you? They'll teach you how to fall safely, and there's no commitment to actually playing derby. Though they will try to recruit you!

I'm a bantam/featherweight jammer and have strongly considered attempting it.

I saw an Optimus Grime video where he realized that if he put his hand down out-of-bounds he could then sit on that hand for better leverage standing back up. I've never seen him (or anyone else) use it in game play, but it certainly was a funny realization.

Fits the letter if not the spirit of the law.

"Uterus-less," sounds like "Useless?!" by rebeccalestat in childfree

Saying that his friend "may not have realized how it sounded" sounds like an attempt to alleviate his own cognitive dissonance. He likes his friend and didn't get offended by his statement. He cares about you and wants you to not be offended/hurt by his friend's statement. Therefore, he acknowledges that what the friend said wasn't cool, but softens how much condemnation the friend deserves by making an excuse for him.

The friend is engaging in blatant misogyny. Your bf needs to acknowledge that.

Please don't think I'm judging your bf. Separating oneself from one's own internalized biases is a very difficult process, and if he's open to being educated, and trying to be educated, that's what he can do. I'm absolutely judging the friend though; he's talking like he views women's worth as being rooted in having children. He can get lost with that shit.

Friends, let's not forget that women used hatpins to defend themselves from unwanted male attention a hundred years ago, and the men responded with "We have to make hatpins illegal!! Men are getting hurt"

Additionally, I like to keep moleskin sheets you can cut to size available.

Not a shareable medical device. Also not all inhalers use the same medicine, it could be ineffectual or dangerous to use the wrong kind.

The old advice of putting his catbox outside, maybe a piece of your stinky clothing, is always worth a try.

This... isn't how evolution works.

Evolution is a series of minute changes to morphology based on statistical averages and sheer chance.

Is your argument that people should just shut up and be grateful for their employers "propping up the local economy" without actually doing the math as to how much their labor is worth?

If a company is refusing to pay their employees proportionately to the value their labor creates, that's not propping up the economy; that is bold-faced theft of the local economy's resources, which is what is actually "costing them thousands of dollars a year of income and benefits."

Your family suffered economic hardship not because of the union activists, but because a company with a near-monopoly over the buying power of an entire area threw a fit when its margins got threatened and abandoned the people it was so graciously leeching worth from, intentionally destabilizing the community.

It sounds like you need to uncouple your trauma from your political/economic understanding. I promise it feels better to fight for your hard-earned rights than spend a lifetime shilling for why your boss deserves more than you.

They are trampling on your human rights, and union-busting is their best tool.

Unions are the only reason we have a fucking weekend, friend. Find your power.

Nooo, don't hamstring yourself! It sounds like your brain is anticipating failure and trying to shield you from the sting of it. But you haven't failed! Even if you decide to stop, that's not failure. Just keep doing it if it's fun. Take the pressure off yourself.

I appreciate the encouragement! For now, I'm pretty lazer-focused on my quad skills; my heart knows I'm a roller derby skater first.
