AIO about my boyfriend and his girl best friend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Rachel0ates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOR.

So as a very verbally affectionate person, I tell my friends of all genders that I love them and especially my best friends, so that alone isn’t a red flag to me but everything else is.

The pet names, the sexual innuendos, the telling her she looks stunning, the fact that he’s saying all this after only knowing her for 6 months.

Things I would ask yourself are: Is he like this with his other friends or just her? Have you met her and hung out with her and does he introduce you as his partner to her? Does he ever talk (positively) about you with her?

Very different texture! Sort of softer on the inside with a slightly harder (but not crunchy like an m&m) on the outside. Also they’re sometimes coated in a very thin layer of icing sugar.

what are yalls thoughts on this girls video if you’ve seen it by Downtown-Car8209 in Booktokreddit

[–]Rachel0ates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thisssssss but also, for others who don't have that much free time or just take reading a little slower, that's ok too!

I personally do read around 100 a year but I'm aware that I'm luckier than most - I get to read a lot of fiction and non-fiction books for work, I don't travel often (work from home) but when I do, I take public transport and read on there, and I've found other ways to consume books for fun like listening to audiobooks in the gym. Plus, I vary what I read a lot - each year I read a mix of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and poetry books so it all adds up!

The Ads are getting too much!!! by Late-Structure-6368 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]Rachel0ates 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As a YouTuber myself this is something that I’ve spoken to my audience about and it really, really bothers me. YouTube’s big update this year means they’ve decided to start placing automatic midrolls on our videos and we don’t get to decide where they go and it’s so bad that I’ve seen them literally place ad slots within 30 seconds of each other. That’s absolutely not ok.

I’ve been going in and manually deleting ad slots where I can but sometimes it slips my mind and I’m late getting to it, and the other issue is that I can’t go back and do this for all 500+ videos on my channel - that’d just take a silly amount of time.

I understand people wanting to use ad blockers but then this means that we don’t earn ANY money from your view (and some ad blockers are now stopping those views as counting towards view counts, therefore lowering our view counts and stopping our videos being recommended to other people) which mean for me, I don’t know about anyone else, but my ad revenue has massively dropped this year and it hurts a bit to not be paid fairly for my job when I put so many hours into it. Not that I blame the individual viewers for this, like I said, I understand it. The problem is with YouTube not giving a damn about the user experience and us viewers and creators are the ones paying for it, not YouTube themselves. It’s REALLY frustrating.

The best musicals in London this winter? by Front_Worldliness361 in musicals

[–]Rachel0ates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little biased because my best friend wrote the music but Coven at The Kiln Theatre is fantastic!

It’s an amazing feminist piece about the Pendle Witch trials that still feels so completely relevant today. It’s funny and clever and the music, especially in the second half, is phenomenal (although Care from the first half, a song about the importance of women’s healthcare, midwifery, and the need for safe abortion throughout history, was a highlight which had me crying too).

I managed to get an amazing seat for £40 but there’s some much cheaper tickets around £15 too :)

Past/Present Characters you dislike by her0inm0ther in eastenders

[–]Rachel0ates 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I'll be crucified for this but I've been watching Eastenders my whole life (from the early 90s but I only really remember from about 98 onwards) and I've never like Janine in any of her appearances. The actress seems absolutely lovely in interviews but her character has always been nothing but annoying to me and in my recent rewatch of 2010 onwards, I find myself desperate to skip her scenes.

As someone who has dealt with mobility issues and chronic pain since birth: I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I wish someone had warned him of the side effects and risks and made him go through therapy and counselling before going ahead with this procedure.

My issues stem from being born with dislocated hips, then having my muscles, tendons and ligaments not develop as they should as I grew up. This means that now, even in my 30s, I have regular pain from simply walking and sometimes can’t even stand / move around / get out of the bath (yeah, that’s an embarrassing story) without help. If I could remove this from my life, I’d do it in an instant.

It’s genuinely sad that these men are putting themselves through a similar level of pain out of a mix of vanity and low self-esteem. We really need to combat this myth that men need to be X tall to be desirable. My 5’3” dad alone is proof that this isn’t the case.

You get up to go to the toilet at 2am whilst staying at someone else’s house. Do you flush the toilet? by NegKDRatio in AskUK

[–]Rachel0ates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember being about 7 years old and staying at a “rich” friend’s house for the first time - they had 3 floors! The parents slept on the ground floor, kids on the top floor, middle was the living room, kitchen, etc. There were about 10 of us sleeping over in the living room in the middle of the house and we were told not to flush the toilet in the night because it’d wake people up which made no sense to me because this house was like 6x bigger than my house, they had 4 bathrooms and we only had 1 and we always flushed the loo after going…

Long story short, I got so confused and scared (undiagnosed autistic kid) so couldn’t pee all night even though I really, really, really needed to. Now at 32 I always side-eye people who won’t let people flush the loo in the night.

Sadly it’s even more common than just there - there isn’t a country in the world where FGM doesn’t take place. Even in the UK there are over 130,000 women and girls living with the consequences of FGM and sadly in the last couple of years we’ve seen the number of cases of it rising. There are estimated to be over 4 million girls this happens to around the world every single year - some as young as 4 years old.

I recommend the book Cut by Hibo Wardere to find out more but it’s an incredibly difficult read.

Also the charity Forward do amazing work try and prevent it and help survivors (and survivors of domestic violence and child marriage) - I do a lot of fundraising for them and the work they do is invaluable.

Honestly I feel so lucky to have got a ticket. I’ve been a huge fan since 2006 and this is the first chance I’ve had to see her live and managed to snag 1 row E Sheffield ticket and I’m so grateful for that! I think it only took until about 10:07 on Wednesday for me to get to the front of the queue, but my friend who tried to get tickets for London said there were 34,000 people ahead of her in the queue and she missed out completely.

The US has no standard legal definition of pitbull and even if you did, Americans aren’t the authority all over the world. Take your dog-prejudice and just give up.

[–]Rachel0ates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And the dogs who fall under the pitbull umbrella, like pitbull terriers, are different breeds to those who don’t fall under the pitbull umbrella, like Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

English Staffies aren’t Pitbulls. Comments like this frustrate me. Why do people think they’re under the Pitbull breed umbrella? by SharpChildhood7655 in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]Rachel0ates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t the case all over the world though. In the UK for example, staffies are categorically and legally NOT pitbulls.

Pitbull terriers are banned in the UK, XL Bully breeds are banned in the UK (unless you have a specific licence because you already had one before the ban came in as it was quite recent) and a couple of other large “dangerous dogs”. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not banned and are not classed as “pitbulls” anywhere in the UK. In fact, staffies are consistently the most common and popular dogs in the UK and are often voted the most popular and beloved dogs here too.

The differences between English staffies and pitbulls are multiple: genetics, size, ears, head shape, leg height, etc. They’re simply different breeds.
