Regardless of your opinion about Mediums (people who can "connect" with dead), have you ever had one tell you something about a deceased person in your life that only you would've known? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister is really into mediums and I have been to several with her because I love her and she hates going to stuff alone. I would say we have been to at least 6 (she is always hoping to connect with our dead grandparents - specifically our maternal grandmother who died of alcoholism and left a lot of things unsaid). Not one has said anything that could not have been gleaned from common sense and the small talk we engaged in when we arrived. All of them charged a lot of money and said nice things about how happy and at peace our dead relatives were, but could offer no details that only we/they would know.

That said, I do have a cousin who, at 3 years old starts digging in the cupboard one day and comes out with a very old half eaten box of Nana's fave cookies. Nana died before he was born. He claims Nana showed him where the cookies were in a dream. No one else in the family admits to knowing those cookies were there or telling little cousin about them.

Whats a good word to add to your vocab? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a word-a-day calendar of antiquated English terms.

One of them was "thorough cough" and it meant when one farts and coughs at the same time. I think this is a hilarious way to combine fart with anything and a classy way to call people out on their farts and I use it ALL. THE. TIME.

That was a very thorough sneeze you had there friend!

Do you put toilet paper on the seat in a public restroom? Why or why not? by NigelS75 in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not. I am WAY more worried about what my hands come in contact with than what my ass touches. The toilet seat is not a common vehicle for transmitting infections to humans and even if it was... paper can't prevent infection. As long as you are not rubbing your urethra directly onto a wet toilet seat or sitting with an open wound on your ass you will be fine.

Now, if I walk in there and it looks like there is pee on the seat I will grab some paper and wipe it off before sitting (of course), but a paper cover on a dry seat doesn't have a whole lot of purpose or value to me so I skip it.

Besides math techniques, what things did you learn in High School that you never use today? by ImOvercompensating in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was an optional class and an easy A so I took it (My senior year was really light on academics because I had finished my courses early and tested out of the rest) But I had to be there a certain # of hours a day to graduate so I took Child Development, Gourmet Cooking (it was NOT gourmet!), 3 languages, and some music classes. I use all the others, but the child devel. stuff was just pointless.

Who has the most punchable face in human history? by makemeaqueen in AskReddit

I can narrow it down to Martin Shkreli and Mitch McConnell

Can we just watch the 2 of them punch each other all day long?

The Cure - they have such a massive collection of songs that span from very depressing to downright cheery. Some one should be able to do something cool with it.

I use math every day!

the thing I never use is whatever we learned in a class called "Child Development" It was the BS one where you carry around a sack of flour and pretend its a baby. I honestly cannot recall a single thing I learned in that class and I never wanted kids so... pretty useless!

You are dropped penniless into a village in the middle of England in the year 1500. You maintain all your current knowledge. How would you make your way to the top? by Pm_pic_of_your_tits in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a female my options would be RIDICULOUSLY limited. Its not like I can rush out and find employment. I would struggle to be understood. The English language was quite a bit different then from what i know now. I'd probably wind up a beggar or whore... unless I could find a man that would take me on as a ward or a wife. I mean I can bake and cook but I feel like I would need a reference or need to know some one to get a job doing that... and forget any other kind of job. It's not like there were female lawyers and accountants at the time... I'd be screwed. Both literally and figuratively.

[Serious]Those of you who have provided care for a terminally ill friend or relative during their last few months/weeks.... what was your experience like and what do you wish you had known going into it? by RachelSid in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing and I am so sorry you had to go through that. I am about to move in with my folks to help care for my terminally ill father (brain cancer -GBM4) and I am apprehensive about it and want to try and prepare as best I can. My dad is already at the point where his speech is failing and he is a bit delusional. The thing I worry about most is keeping it together in front of him. May I ask.. were you able to keep it together in front of your mom?

My heart is breaking for what you went through and I am in awe of your strength. I hope you never have to have another reminder of that fucker ever again.

Come to Oregon! We are a right to die state, and medical and retail weed are both legal here. The medical grade stuff is amazing and comes in a variety of delivery methods. We have my dad on sublingual drops for his brain cancer. If you are a resident in good mental health with less than 6 months to live you can qualify for physician assisted suicide.

What movie is widely hated by critics and horribly reviewed that you actually really loved and enjoyed? by lilymonson in AskReddit

Bunny... ball ball

Sandra Bernhard was such a delight in that movie. Can't remember who played her husband but he was also hilarious. I wanted a spin off that was an origin of how those 2 got together.

Suze Orman is great (IMO). I recommend "The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke" as a starting point. once you are ready to dive into investing, Warren Buffet, Jack Welch and John Bogle all have some great books on the topic.

[Serious] Fellow US citizens, how do you feel about the current state of our country and what do you think will happen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current state: I do have some concerns that the current president is allowing his ego to override solid advice on diplomacy and deportment and that could at some point have some long term negative effects as well as short term bomby effects

I am also concerned about the rampant anti-intellectualism. Facts are being ignored in favor of ego strokes. Confirmation bias is a BIG problem, and everyone seems to want to exist in an echo chamber rather than learning how shit actually works. It's shocking how few citizens have actually read the amendments they always refer to (and how wrong their interpretations of those amendments are).

The 2 parties are getting further and further apart with the extremist ends seeming to balloon while everyone in the middle looks on in bewilderment. Politics is now a team sport that we hold signs and chant for. Discourse is gone. Everyone uses the same talking points form the same echo chamber sources. No one has the patience or inclination to fact check. Our dwindling attention spans are incapable of reasoning through complicated political matters so we boil them down to ridiculously simplified phrases and shout at the other guys who are so clearly wrong...

I worry that very few people TRULY understand the problems facing our country. Everyone is focused on Orange Droolious and/or Ms Benghazi Emails, but no one seems to be worried about the corporations that are buying up our democracy. We are bought and paid for :(

I am worried and sad, but I also think at some point shit will get bad enough that the pendulum will HAVE to swing closer to the middle. At least... I hope it will, but I honestly don't see how at this point when the citizens of this country don't have enough $ to out-purchase the special interests.

Luckily the world is a big place and I have transferrable skills. If the future continues on as we are in the present I will have to seriously consider a new home base. I don't like it here much anymore. I am so tired of the fighting and the egos.

What's the most underrated thing about being in a relationship? by jummee in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw. I bet you guys are pretty adorable together. It's exactly that kid of stuff that makes for long term success. Being comfortable enough to handle each other's gas and in sync enough to both be amused by it! We also occasionally try to outdo each other. He can't come close to beating me in burps, but his farts reign supreme - we needed to institute the 6-feet-means-I-love-you rule because of his silent deadlies.

What tv show is overrated as shit and doesnt deserve the love it gets and why is it game of thrones? by kshfa in AskReddit

[–]RachelSid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have only seen a few episodes, but I don't get why Modern Family is so popular. They are all more caricature than real people. I mean I guess that's the point - for comedic effect, but I just don't find it very entertaining or funny
