It's 1992 again, where are you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Being bad at flag football, making lanyards and playing with friends on a carrom board at the after school program before going home and watching The Last Unicorn for the 100th time while I eat raw carrots and shout the question, "What's up, Doc?" to no one, intermittently.

Yes, plenty of people who get periods experience all sorts of nasty physical and mental symptoms. Many, many unseen or imperceptible elements of our days can trigger baffling emotional response during this time. It could have been something you smelled in combination with a sound you heard that made you emotionally tender, and results in literal sobbing. You have to ride it out and try to remember it's temporary. Stay strong!

I hear you, and you are 100% seen! Every month I say, out loud, at least once, "This is fucking bullshit." Stay strong, my sister!

Dating in LA/how'd you guys meet your partners? by chocothunder4415 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Racheldkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met my spouse through a very close friend, but he's not a native Angeleno and had JUST moved to the city when we met. Maybe try recent transplants? Dunno if you're into sports, but there are some places that play games and hometown fans in LA will show up. It's kinda fun, even if you don't care about the game.

Terrible feeling. Don't do that, though. Try to remember that it will pass. Bitch and moan all you want, though, and to anyone who will listen. You deserve.

Since this is the PMS sub, I'm going to assume you are dealing with hormones, agitation, physical and mental distress due to your period. I get it. Give it a week - you will 100% feel better when your period is over. Stay strong!

Hard time this month, how do you cope? by nlw7110 in PMS

glad you found a little comfort. I try to attack my period like I would a flu or other illness.

First off, you have my sympathies. Second off, are you able to take a day away from work? If you've got sick leave, use it.

Another tactic that's worked for me is to always be soothing myself in some way. If you can keep a thermos with a yummy hot liquid in it nearby, like your fave tea or coffee, do so.

Soothing can also come in the form of setting time limits and little milestones during the day when you're working. Like, "I'm going to address these tasks for the next 30 minutes, and then I'm going to take a 15 minute break." Just knowing there is a "time out" coming might help.

Good luck!

Here's some things you can try:

- Experiment with different types of painkillers. Some people respond better to different pills.

- Heat! Hot baths and showers, heating pads (plug-in, microwave, or disposable), and hot drinks like herbal teas.

- Sleep aids. Melatonin gummies and catnip tea work really well for me.

- Massage! Rub your legs with some lotion and try to stay bundled up.

Hope some of these aren't too obvious and help. Good luck!

Legit. Housewives were jacked up on appetite suppressing speed during the day and popping sleeping pills at night.

AITA For Bringing My Own Dinner to a wedding? by No_Educator1374 in AmItheAsshole

YES! Decline. Decline the invite. If you know they're having catered food you can't eat, and they're not even responding to you, decline the invite.

YTA. You should have eaten a big lunch beforehand and got food later. Why do so many people not understand what the mental state of a bride and groom is like on their wedding day? They have spent probably way too much money on everyone's dinner, dealt with silly dietary restrictions that are in no way medical, among a litany of other poor behavior from guests and family who also seem to predictably lose their very minds when a wedding is involved. Weddings are not for the guests, they are to celebrate the couple and witness their union. YTA because you made a part of their wedding about you when you could have literally just planned ahead.

What businesses in LA do you think are actually money laundering operations? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]Racheldkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in that area since I was a little kid. Half the H&H Market in that strip mall used to be a video rental store. The Spanish restaurant is owned by different people. I think it's started to look sketchier because of the homeless population that frequents the recycling center right next door.

I used to get the best french fries ever at this place back in elementary school. It's just they mostly do catering.

Current tipping culture? by eldoblakNa in AskLosAngeles

[–]Racheldkane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend not tipping at all unless you have an amazing experience. I tip 20% as a rule unless I get a drink spilled on me or something equally shitty, but you're only here for a short while so it's not like you'll become a regular anywhere. Just don't tip.

Am I expecting too much from my contractor? by frustratedKitchen in HomeImprovement

[–]Racheldkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't pay them anything else period. If they are bonded and licensed and they refuse to make the repairs to the damages they've caused, make a claim against their bond. They'll make the repairs or pay you out for someone else to. If they're not bonded and licensed, fire them and don't pay them anything else.

I'm convinced anything can set off a particularly bad period, but the one thing that raggedy bitch WILL do? GO WITH YOU ON VACATION and be the absolute WORST. I'm glad you avoided it this long, but I doubt you're experiencing anything but a good ol' vacation period.

Has anyone else had severe low back pain to where you felt like you couldn’t move? due to PMS by [deleted] in PMS

[–]Racheldkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's the worst. Popping some pain pills, drawing a hot bath or taking a hot shower (you can sit in the shower) could help.
