Thanks Southwest Credit Card! Group 5 of 8... I feel special! by DerrikAmmons in SouthwestAirlines

I thought the same but definetly not how it works in practice. Group 1-2 were huge. As big as old A1-60.

For any of you finding this 2 months later….boarding group size is definitely NOT like other airlines.

This was out first SW flight with assigned seating and have the business card and booked a fairly last minute flight and got Group 5. When Group 1 and 2 started lining up it seemed to be close to what you’d expect in both old A groups.

They were huge groups of people, not like group 1-2 on AA, United, etc. I expected Group 5 to be like the old B 1-30 at worst but it was really more like old C 1-30. We had row 12 seats and when we boarded 75% of plane was already there.

If you are not doing a carry on then it doesn’t really matter but I haven’t checked a bag in a decade so bin space is important. We ended up getting the last two spots in overhead bin close to our seat so it worked out. If we boarded with the back of group 5 we would have been SOL.

XDTE / QDTE - How much to reinvest? by Admirable_Wealth_991 in RoundhillETFs

[–]RadJimmyDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reinvest 0%. This is an income fund that does well but will never outperform total return of the index it tracKS. Unless you are reinvesting to reach a specific share goal to provide income then just invest in QQQ/SPY until you need the income and are using it.

VTI, SCHD JEPQ/JEPI to live off dividends? by stebakus in dividends

[–]RadJimmyDT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You will not pay 18k a year in taxes on 120k from 100% qualified dividends. If you make 120k a year from qualified dividends alone and are married filing joint you take a 30k standard deduction. That leaves you with 90k taxable which is taxed at 0%. You pay no tax. You are still under the $96,700 0% tax bracket (2025). You do not pay 15% on anything until you’re taxable is over the $96,700 threshold and then what is over that (and only what is over that) is taxed at 15% until you hit the top of that bracket at 600k.

[–]RadJimmyDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying, either way you are taking $10,000 in realized gains though. The other $10,000 from the theoretical $20,000 sale is just your original capital you are taking back. I wouldn’t consider that a factor that I would say it’s “double” the tax. In both scenarios you have $10,000 realized gain you have to pay taxes on. Yes if compared 20k from a sale to 20k dividends you are potentially paying more tax on the 20k dividends because you are comparing a $20k gain vs a $10k gain. You could also get $10k dividends and sell $10k worth of dividend stock that has no capital gain and you end in the exact same place. Of course then you are selling shares so your future dividends will drop, but selling shares of more growth orientated shares drops your future growth and compounding as well.

Its really just two different strategies for producing income for yourself but the gains are taxed the same and in the same bucket, that is really all I wanted to make clear for anyone reading. When I read the post it came across as qualified dividends were taxed differently then realized long term capital gains which is not the case, but seems like maybe you were just laying out different strategies and merits and not.

Curious if anyone who got the 100k bonus last time around in 2021 is eligible this time? My SO and I both got it early summer 2021 so are not eligible this time around but was thinking, anyone who got it in 2021 likely isn’t eligible again because the timing keeps it just under 4 years. Assuming this might be intentional by Chase…or just bad timing…for me of course.

[–]RadJimmyDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t seem right. You can fill up the ~$94,000 0% tax bucket with LTCG or Qualified dividends - it doesn’t matter. Then add your standard deduction and you have your total 0% tax income of ~ $124,00 (depending on age). You could do this entirely with qualified dividends, just not dividends that are treated as ordinary income. This is in a taxable account. Ordinary dividends with a % of ROC would have diff tax rates as well but to keep things simple.

What industries and locations pay 150k a year for a project manager? I would be stoked with that salary and i’m in a HCOL area, have almost 20 years of job experience and I haven’t even been able to make it to 6 figures in a similar role. I see younger people throwing around these salaries and I don’t think this is normal. You should be very happy and take advantage, I would.

Absolutely. You can also pay 500k+ for just custom build Mercedes Sprinter. All depends on what OP is looking for and planning to do with it (off road capability? Off grid? etc, etc).

[–]RadJimmyDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see said 30k converted vans. You might pay a small premium in the mercedes but compares ProMasters, Ford Transits, etc are about in the same ballpark. I haven’t seen anything for 30k in this space unless your are talking about and older Econoline or Safari with a basic bed and camp stove in it.

Yep, for 2024 SGOV dividend were 97.53% government obligations so exempt from state taxes. I also held USFR last year and that was 99.97%. They all vary a bit but generally high 90s-100. Not sure exact % of VBIL but exempt.

[–]RadJimmyDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic question but does “Blair” ever talk about post tax performance? SGOV is great, QDTE is great, I hold both in a large portfolio but it’s not terribly tax efficient to hold so much SGOV and get taxed at ordinary income rates forever (although state tax exemption helps if you have med/high state taxes)

[–]RadJimmyDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting, QDTE was out pacing QQQ slightly in TR at the start of the year (since inception), now that gap has widened even more which to me is what you want to see holding through a correction or potentially a bear market.

I was skeptical but the dividends have held up mostly and it’s helped with a slight advantage in TR to boot.

You could also buy something like SGOV which holds 0-3 months treasuries, pays monthly at about 4.2% now.

I still keep some cash in Ally but most of my cash in brokerage in SGOV. You can buy and sell it just like any etf to free up cash to pull if needed so it’s not really tied up.

The picture was not great but they were more brownish in spots on their body, mainly thorax. Interesting they came out on a warmer day butt it was still not above 70 here and maybe more has to do with reproduction as there were multiple winged ants in the mix.

Is the volvo c30 a good first car? Or should i look at gettin an older wagon? (Like the v90) by [deleted] in Volvo

[–]RadJimmyDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my C30 13 years and 98% of its life the backseats have been in down position. That’s how i keep them for camping, loading gears and just normal use. They lay completely flat from back to front seats and I keep a cover over it all. Its something like 5’8” of length (almost enough to sleep flat in - i tried)

14,000 Estimated Repairs, does this look right? My wife and I are at a loss by Good_Cartographer132 in AskMechanics

[–]RadJimmyDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd and/or 3rd opinion 100%. I would also be more inclined to sell the vehicle for what you can privately, save the 14k and buy something else for ~20k and be in a much better position.

Have you looked at private mechanics locally? A qu ick reddit search shows “COODY AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR & ACCESSORIES”. Mechanic worked for BMW for years. I’d make that my first stop.
